The gunfire from the team shattered the silence of the valley. The shimmering blue Crystal surged like a tide, forming a massive ring that slowly but inexorably compressed toward the center. The air was thick with a suffocating Energy Fluctuation.
These things seemed alive! Zhou Zheng exclaimed in shock while shooting, the bullets were utterly ineffective!
They are not physical! Chen Rui quickly adjusted the scanner, and the energy readings revealed that they were composed of pure Shadow Stone energy.
Pure energy? Wang Ya narrowed her eyes; if that's the case, their weakness might be their resonance frequency!
No time to analyze! Lin Xi yanked up the portable electromagnetic pulse emitter. Let’s try this!
She swiftly activated the device, and a high-frequency oscillation wave spread out from it. The Azure Light Crystal immediately began to vibrate violently, as if struck by a powerful force.
Effective! A glimmer of hope flashed in Chen Rui's eyes. One more time, increase the output power!
After the second pulse emission, the activity of the Crystal slowed significantly. Just when they thought things were improving, a piercing low growl echoed from beyond the ring, and the ground of the entire valley shook violently, as if some enormous creature was awakening.
What is that sound? Wang Ya's face turned pale. Did we just trigger something?
It’s probably the guardian here. Lin Xi replied calmly, her hand tightening around Wu Lan.
Sure enough, in the next moment, the ground deep within the valley cracked open, and a massive creature slowly crawled out. Its body appeared to be a fusion of Azure Light Crystal and rock, each movement accompanied by an Energy Fluctuation, as if the surrounding air had been sucked dry, making it hard to breathe.
Is that a monster materialized from Shadow Stone? Zhou Zheng stared wide-eyed; this is too outrageous!
Forget what it is; prepare for battle! Lin Xi said sternly. Find a way to locate its weakness!
The battle began with an unusual intensity. The guardian's method of attack was beyond everyone's expectations; it did not approach directly but instead unleashed high-energy beams from the Crystal on its body, covering the entire Area.
Scatter! Lin Xi commanded, and the team members quickly dispersed in an attempt to evade the attacks.
These energy beams are random and come at short intervals! Chen Rui analyzed while operating the portable disruptor. We can only rely on high-frequency interference to temporarily weaken it!
Interference will only buy us time! Lin Xi frowned as she looked at the massive figure. Where is its core?
It should be that largest Crystal on its chest! Chen Rui responded quickly. To shatter it requires a higher energy output!
Understood. Lin Xi gritted her teeth. Draw its attention; I’ll get close!
Are you crazy? Wang Ya exclaimed. The attack range of that thing is too wide; you won’t have any chance to get close!
Stop talking nonsense and do as I say! Lin Xi interrupted coldly; this is our only option.
Lin Xi swiftly maneuvered through scattered debris, using the terrain for cover as she approached the guardian. Each step she took was like walking on thin ice; even a slight deviation from those energy beams would obliterate her completely.
She moved too quickly; that thing's targeting system couldn't keep up! Chen Rui was astonished to realize.
"Continue to suppress its attacks!" Wang Ya commanded loudly, buying Lin Xi more time.
Finally, Lin Xi approached the guard. She looked up at the dazzling blue light emanating from the Core Crystal and quickly retrieved an energy bomb from her backpack. After setting it for a delayed detonation, she hurled it towards the target with all her strength.
The bomb struck the Core Crystal with precision. At the moment of detonation, the guard let out a fierce roar, and its entire body of Crystal emitted a blinding light, engulfing the entire valley in blue.
"Lin Xi!" Zhou Zheng shouted in despair. The light was too intense; he could barely see what was happening.
A few minutes later, as the blue light gradually faded, the valley returned to a brief silence.
"Lin Xi!" Wang Ya anxiously searched for her figure and finally discovered the fallen Lin Xi behind a massive boulder.
"I'm fine," Lin Xi said weakly, blood still seeping from the wound on her arm. However, her gaze was fixed on something on the ground—fragments of the guard's Core Crystal.
"This is its energy source." Lin Xi handed the fragments to Chen Rui. "Quick, analyze it and see if it can connect with the stele."
"You should rest for a moment." Wang Ya helped Lin Xi to sit aside.
Chen Rui quickly placed the fragments into the Analyzer. Before long, a complex array of data appeared on the device's screen.
"Indeed," Chen Rui said, his expression serious. "This fragment belongs to the same energy system as the stele; they are interconnected."
"Interconnected?" Lin Xi forced herself to stand up. "So this is just the first step to unlocking something greater."
Chen Rui nodded. "That's right. This area might just be the periphery; the real core lies deeper within."
"Prepare to move on," Lin Xi said coldly, as if the earlier injuries had no effect on her.
The team members exchanged glances, understanding each other without words: the danger had only just begun, and they had no choice but to press onward.
