The early morning sun shines on the helipad of the base, and the team members are ready to go. After a night of preparation, Lin Xi and her team finally made full deployment to enter the area. This Area map has been listed as a Forbidden Zone since the Shadow Stone event began. It has no satellite signal and no detailed terrain markings. Every step carries unknown risks, but everyone on the team knows that this step involves death. Finally confirm the equipment! Lin Xi stood next to the armored vehicle and glanced at the crowd. Chen Rui is checking the communication equipment, his expression is more serious than usual: the drone communication signal area may be completely ineffective, all images can only be recorded locally, and decoded and analyzed after returning. Wang Ya adjusted the magazine with a hint of unruly smile on his face: Lost contact? Isn't that normal operation? Isn’t the signature of our team that we can survive even if we lose contact? It's good to be optimistic, but don't be too confident. Zhou Zheng came over carrying an anti-material rifle, and this time the goal was not just to survive. Lin Xi nodded, and after a few brief instructions, everyone got on the bus. The convoy drove out of the base and slowly headed towards the district along the long-abandoned road. The dilapidated buildings, withered vegetation and scattered debris silently tell of the tragic conflict that once took place here. It looks like a dead city. Wang YaLeaning against the window, sighing softly. Don't take it lightly. The more such a place is, the easier it is to hide things that we can't see. Chen Rui said in a low voice, his fingers never leaving the keyboard, monitoring the dynamic data around the convoy. The convoy gradually approaches the edge of the Forbidden Zone. A makeshift outpost blocked the way forward. Lin Xi signaled to stop the car, and Chen Rui got out to check the situation. The outpost was surrounded by barbed wire and sandbags, with several rotten corpses lying in the corners. It was obvious that the people guarding here could not withstand the Shadow Stone impact. A troop was once stationed here. Chen Rui squatted down and looked at the remaining markings on a corpse. The mission of these soldiers was most likely to block the Forbidden Zone, but it seemed they failed. What is hidden in the Forbidden Zone? Lin Xi looked up into the distance, a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes. It seemed that all the people who entered here never came out again. Maybe we'll find out today. Chen Rui stood up and checked his equipment again, but I suggested that we maintain the highest alert for the next operation. Lin Xi nodded, got back on the armored vehicle, and the convoy continued to drive towards the Forbidden Zone. After passing the sentry post, the surrounding scenery became even more bizarre. Many strange cracks appeared on the ground, as if they were the result of some violent vibration, and the air was filled with a faint smell of sulfur. These cracks Chen Rui frowned, as if some kind of explosion triggered geological activity, but not entirely. It was more like it was torn apart by something. Lin Xi took over the conversation in a low voice, "We have entered the Forbidden Zone Core Area." As they were talking, Wang Ya suddenly raised his hand: Stop the car! There is something ahead. The convoy stopped immediately and everyone got out to check. Not far away on the road, an overturned transport truck lay quietly there. The car body was riddled with bullet holes and burn marks, obviously having been the victim of a violent attack. It's our team. After an inspection, Zhou Zheng said that this car was the equipment of the third Squad that entered the Forbidden Zone three months ago. 0

Their team outnumbered ours and had superior equipment, yet they still failed to emerge. Wang Ya leaned against the vehicle, a hint of complex emotion in her voice. "Leader Lin, should we continue moving forward?" 0

Lin Xi did not respond but walked straight to the transport vehicle's compartment. She carefully opened the door and discovered that the cargo inside had been destroyed, with only a few charred metal scraps lying in the corner. 0

Chen Rui approached and picked up a piece of metal, examining it closely. "This is a fragment of Shadow Stone." 0

Lin Xi's expression grew colder. "It seems the Shadow Stone Control Center can not only learn but also actively defend itself. It’s waiting for us here." 0

The convoy resumed its journey, and the team members felt increasingly tense. As they delved deeper into the Forbidden Zone, the surrounding environment became increasingly bizarre. The clouds in the sky appeared twisted by some unseen force, forming an abnormal vortex, while a low humming sound faintly resonated in the air. 0

"This place doesn’t seem natural," Chen Rui remarked as he recorded data. "It feels more like some kind of experimental site." 0

"An experimental site?" Lin Xi frowned. "What exactly has Shadow Stone been doing here?" 0

"I don’t know, but I’m certain we are getting closer to the truth," Chen Rui replied in a low voice. "These environmental changes are likely due to energy leakage from the Shadowstone Core." 0

"If that’s the case, then we’ve already entered its territory." Zhou Zheng tightened his grip on his weapon. "The next step won’t be easy." 0

After traveling a distance, a massive crack suddenly blocked their path. Lin Xi signaled for everyone to stop, and they all disembarked to proceed on foot. 0

On the other side of the crack lay a cluster of abandoned buildings, seemingly remnants of some forsaken research facility. 0

"That’s our target," Lin Xi pointed at the structures. "Everyone be cautious and prepare for battle." 0

The team members quickly spread out, cautiously advancing along the crack. However, just as they were about to approach the buildings, a piercing shriek suddenly echoed from within the fissure. 0

"What was that sound?" Wang Ya spun around abruptly, raising her weapon. 0

In the next moment, a shadow leaped out from the crack, charging toward the team. Lin Xi immediately pulled the trigger; gunfire illuminated the shadow's outline—a creature unlike any they had seen before, its body covered in metallic scales and its eyes glowing with a cold red light. 0

"A product of Shadow Stone!" Chen Rui shouted. "It's protecting its core!" 0

"Take it down!" Lin Xi commanded sharply, and the team opened fire without hesitation. 0

Gunshots and explosions reverberated through the ruins of the Forbidden Zone as the creature charged fearlessly toward them. 0

Lin Xi gritted her teeth. "Keep moving forward! No matter what it takes, we must break through its defenses!" 0

To be continued... 0
