The figure fell silent for a moment before speaking: "Fate is never something that can be changed. If you insist on seeking answers, you must pass my trial."
"Trial?" Lin Xi frowned. "What trial?"
Before she could finish her sentence, the ground began to shake violently, and the stone statues surrounding the altar shattered one by one. From the broken statues emerged countless Abnormal Creatures of various forms, clawing and roaring with piercing shrieks.
"Is this your trial?" Lin Xi scoffed, raising her weapon. "We're ready!"
The battle erupted instantly.
These Abnormal Creatures were incredibly fast and seemed even more ferocious than those they had encountered before. Not only did they possess sharp claws and tough shells, but they also spewed a corrosive liquid that made it difficult for the team to move.
"Stay coordinated! Don't let them get close!" Lin Xi shouted, accurately striking one of the Abnormal Creatures that lunged at Chen Rui.
"There are too many of them!" Wang Ya yelled while firing. "We can't hold out for long!"
"Hold on!" Lin Xi shot while observing the situation around them. "This is a guardian trial; as long as we pass it, the situation will turn in our favor!"
Chen Rui threw a grenade, blasting several of the approaching Abnormal Creatures away, but more continued to pour out from the cracks as if there was no end.
"This is never-ending!" Zhou Zheng gritted his teeth. "We need to find a way to close the rift!"
Lin Xi glanced at the light emanating from the rift and suddenly remembered the movement of the crystal ball. She quickly made a decision: "Cover me! I’m going to try to use the crystal ball to close the rift!"
"Understood!" The team members quickly adjusted their formation, concentrating their firepower to draw the attention of the Abnormal Creatures and buy time for Lin Xi.
Lin Xi dashed to the front of the altar and grasped the crystal ball. Its scorching temperature nearly burned her palm, but she gritted her teeth and held on, raising it high toward the direction of the rift.
A brilliant beam of light shot from the crystal ball, striking directly at the center of the rift.
The Abnormal Creatures let out wretched screams, as if feeling immense pressure from the light. The glow from within the rift began to weaken gradually, and that towering figure became increasingly blurred.
"You have passed the trial," the guardian voice echoed again, this time sounding particularly weak. "This is just the beginning; the true answer lies hidden in deeper darkness."
As those final words faded away, the rift gradually closed, and all Abnormal Creatures turned to ash.
Lin Xi released her grip and collapsed onto the ground, feeling the crystal ball grow cold in her hand.
"Is it over?" Chen Rui gasped.
"No, this is just a phase ending," Lin Xi replied as she lifted her head to gaze at the altar returning to calmness. "We still need to find the next clue."
The team members fell silent for a moment before silently organizing their gear, preparing to face an uncertain future.
