"Quick, put it down! If you break that, you won't be able to pay me back even if I sell you!" She was always anxious when handling something so valuable, having grown accustomed to a life of modest means.
"Yes, I really don't have anything worth that much," Sang Xia agreed, nodding in affirmation. She believed she was only worth about a million. When asked how she knew, she explained that those who had car accidents were compensated with just over a million, and even that seemed excessive.
Sang Yu listened to their conversation and couldn't help but chuckle. "Come on, it's not that serious! No matter how expensive something is, it's just for looking at. As long as you’re careful, there’s no need to be so paranoid."
"Of course! This is a betrothal gift; we can't afford to damage it," Sang Xia said as she carefully placed the bracelet on the coffee table. She then opened a few more boxes to take a look. Besides jade, there were gold and silver items as well.
"My goodness! These pieces of jewelry must be worth quite a lot! Sister, your mother-in-law is really generous! She's impressive!" As Sang Xia admired the jewelry, her impression of the Lu Family improved significantly. Sang also nodded in agreement; the Lu Family's sincerity was indeed reassuring.
People are often contradictory beings. Although they claim not to value wealth, it is money that often makes them feel appreciated.
After they had finished examining the betrothal gifts and other items, an hour had already passed. They couldn't help it; many of these things were new to them, and each item deserved careful admiration.
Eventually, they moved everything into the storage room. Sang Yu helped put away the silver card, property deed, and jewelry first. Their room had a safe, which was much safer for storing those precious jade and gold items. If left out, she wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
Sang Yu decided she wouldn’t open the safe again until after her wedding when she would take everything out for her daughter to keep.
"Isn't this a bit exaggerated?" Sang Yu thought as she lay on her bed afterward. She couldn't believe that the worries she had harbored for so long had been resolved so easily. And now they were even getting engaged! Just days ago, she had planned never to marry at all; now she was about to get engaged to her beloved. It felt like a wish had suddenly come true, and it seemed surreal.
As she thought about it, she couldn't help but smile secretly, unable to stop herself from rolling around on the bed and squealing like a lunatic.
"Oh my God!"
"No! God is Western; I got that wrong."
"Let me start over!"
"Oh heavens! Please forgive me! I'm just too excited!"
