Ling Yuan stumbled her way to the the Leng Family.
What used to be a few thatched cottages had now transformed into a grand estate. She knocked at the door for what felt like an eternity before someone finally answered.
As soon as the person saw her, they reached out to push her away, but Ling Yuan, in a frenzy, desperately rushed inside.
She needed to find her child; she had to see Leng Xiao. She hoped everything was still safe and sound.
Inside the the Leng Family hall, Leng Xiao and madam Hu were playing with a baby boy, and the scene looked as if they were the loving parents.
Ling Yuan's mind went blank. Just as she was about to rush over, several burly men stepped in to block her path.
Struggling, Ling Yuan shouted, “That’s my child! Mister, that woman is a monster! Don’t believe her!”
Leng Xiao was instantly enraged and shouted back, “You’re spreading wicked lies! Silence her!”
One of the strong men struck her with great force, and Ling Yuan felt dizzy from the blow. She bit her lip and collapsed onto the ground in frustration.
Seeing this, madam Hu leaned close to Leng Xiao and whispered, “If this escalates and someone dies, it won’t be easy to explain.”
Upon hearing this, Leng Xiao ordered someone to take Ling Yuan to a guest room and went to fetch a doctor.
When Ling Yuan woke up and saw Leng Xiao, a glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes. She eagerly said, “ Mister, you have to believe me! That madam Hu is truly a monster; she…”
"I know," Leng Xiao said.
"You... know?" Ling Yuan looked at him in disbelief.
Leng Xiao sneered and said, "If it weren't for her, how would the Leng Family have their current status?"
"But she wants to kill our child! She even stole the child and framed me as a monster. She's the real monster!" Ling Yuan's emotions surged as she shouted with all her might.
"All of this was my doing."
Leng Xiao met Ling Yuan's incredulous gaze and cruelly revealed the truth. "Xiao Yuan, only she can give me wealth and status. You can't! You love me so much; you wouldn't want to drag me down, would you?"
Ling Yuan felt a wave of despair wash over her, drowning her. She trembled as she asked, "Mister, you never loved me, did you?"
"I married you to gain the wealth of the Ling Family, but you severed ties with them," Leng Xiao said coldly.
"I truly loved you!" Ling Yuan completely broke down. She clutched Leng Xiao's hand tightly, her fingertips digging into his flesh. Suddenly, she spat out a mouthful of blood and cried out in despair, "If there is a next life, I will never love you again! I want to be a flea, clinging to you for eternity. Even if you're heartless, you won't be able to shake me off!"
With that, Ling Yuan's vision darkened, and she fainted.
Not long after, Ling Yuan passed away and was taken by the Ling Family for burial.
Leng Xiao's life seemed to continue in splendor; however, it wasn't long before he was suddenly overwhelmed by an unbearable itch, as if thousands of ants were crawling on him. He sought out skilled doctors and tried various remedies, but none were effective.
At that moment, he recalled the curse that Ling Yuan had uttered before her death.
In desperation, he turned to madam Hu for help.
However, madam Hu coldly refused, disdainfully saying, “Do you think I’m as foolish as Ling Yuan? I’m not stupid; I won’t sacrifice my dignity or even my life for a ruthless man.”
Her principle was clear: once used, she would kick him aside.
Although she had obtained Ling Yuan's Linglong Heart, that already shattered heart held no value for her anymore.
Leng Xiao fell silent. He gritted his teeth, enduring the unbearable itch that plagued him, and ceased his pleas to madam Hu.
He finally understood that the one woman who had truly loved him, even to the point of being somewhat foolish, had been heartlessly abandoned by him and had died with resentment.
He seemed to finally grasp the despair she had felt before her death.
In her lifetime, she had endured more pain and despair than he ever had.
And all of it was caused by his own hands.
