Two hours later, Wang Meng returned to his office without making a sound. I deliberately went to the second floor to work, keeping an eye on things all day. The General Manager, Liu Fei, usually arrived in the afternoon. When Liu Fei came in, Wang Meng didn’t go to Liu Fei’s office, and Liu Fei didn’t seek out Wang Meng either. 0

Heh, very interesting! 0

After work, I used my connections to buy a black card and asked Xiao Dao for Wang Meng’s phone number. Even if everything was developing as I suspected, it was still better not to reveal my identity during the initial intimidation phase. My past experience as an undercover agent made me cautious about everything; any slip could cost me my life. 0

If I threatened Wang Meng directly and he turned out to be someone with a bad temper, I would be in danger. It was safer to start with an anonymous call to test the waters and see Wang Meng’s attitude. 0

Xiao Dao told me he didn’t know Wang Meng’s number, but some of the dancers at Tianchi might know it, like the singer Liu Li, who had once had a fling with Wang Meng. She would definitely know his number, but Xiao Dao added that those people might not tell me. 0

Oh. 0

I nodded; getting a phone number was quite a hassle. I understood that Xiao Dao meant those people might not pay attention to me, but that wouldn’t stop me. I knew Liu Li was one of the hottest singers at Tianchi and very beautiful. I had overheard many waitstaff discussing her recently; they clearly had an interest in her but were hesitant to pursue her due to her past with Wang Meng. Some were even afraid of what Wang Meng might think and wouldn’t dare get close to Liu Li. 0

But all I wanted was to get Wang Meng’s number; I didn’t need to act too friendly with Liu Li. I just needed to get her phone number. 0

As for whether she would pay attention to me? If I wanted her to notice me, she wouldn’t have a choice! 0

Thinking this over, I returned home. When I got back, Linna was doing yoga as usual, but what frustrated me was that she had bought her own yoga clothes instead of wearing my oversized shirt and showing off her legs. 0

Those yoga clothes looked terrible! 0

I expressed my opinion—though it wasn’t entirely true; Linna looked beautiful in yoga clothes, just not as stunning as before. 0

Linna pouted at my comment and dismissed my opinion. She mentioned that she had visited Liu Zi’s grandmother today and brought her a lot of food. The grandmother was still quite healthy for seventy years old; she wasn’t confused and could take care of herself without any issues for now. 0

I nodded; that was the important thing. 0

“Alright, you’ve been working hard lately; take good care of the old lady,” I said as I pulled out my wallet and handed Linna a bank card along with its password. Linna needed some spending money too; it wasn’t convenient for her to keep asking me for cash every time she needed something. 0

“Oh wow, thanks, boss!” 0

Linna took the bank card with a smile, which made me chuckle. Her expression reminded me of Stephen Chow’s classic comedy roles, but in my heart, Linna was far more beautiful than any character he played. 0

“Just thanks? You see how hard I work running around every day for you? And look at how awkward you look in those yoga clothes! You should really change; I think you’d look great in a shirt.” 0

I said this because I preferred the allure of Linna in a shirt—now that was something! 0

Linna let out a scoff, shot me a glance, and went into the house with my bank card. I initially thought she was just going to change her clothes, but it turned out she was actually going online shopping with my card! 0

I couldn't help but feel a bit anxious about my card. After all, Linna used to be a high-class beauty; her spending habits were not to be taken lightly. A single handbag or a bottle of perfume could easily max out my card! Fortunately, Linna didn't come out to tell me that my card was empty, at least not for the time being. 0

The next day, I went to work as usual. The singers only came in at night, so I prepared a bit and waited until evening. That’s when I saw Liu Li strutting into Tianchi in high heels and carrying a small bag, confidently heading towards the dressing room on the second floor where the singers and dancers prepared. 0

I quietly made my way to the second floor as well. My plan for the morning had been to sneak into the dressing room and grab Liu Li's makeup! 0

Liu Li had studied makeup artistry, so she had a habit of wearing different styles of makeup every time she performed. It took her quite a while each time, which became her signature style; everyone in Tianchi knew this. Her unique habit meant that no one else in Tianchi wore makeup like hers. If I took her makeup products, she wouldn't have anything to borrow and would have to rush out to buy new ones. 0

However, it was already dark outside. Even if there were places nearby that sold makeup, they would likely be closed by now. What was I going to do? 0

When Liu Li discovered her makeup was missing, she immediately panicked and stormed out of her dressing room, cursing under her breath. This was the perfect moment for me to step forward. 0

"Miss Liu, what's wrong?" I asked quickly. 0

She shot me an annoyed look and snapped back, "What does it matter to you? Get lost!" 0

I was taken aback; Liu Li was acting so rude! This was not the side of her I had known before. I hadn’t seen her talk to anyone since I arrived here two days ago. Just as I was pondering how to respond next, Liu Li suddenly seemed to remember something. 0

"Hey! Can you help me with something?" 0

"What do you need?" 0

I smiled; after all, I had shown up just to help her. As for her earlier insult? Ha! I wouldn’t stoop to her level. 0

"My makeup is gone! I need to buy some immediately, but many places might be closed by now. Let’s split up; you go one way and I'll go another. We need to get that makeup back fast!" 0

Liu Li said urgently. Hearing this made me chuckle; "Oh, is that all? No problem! Don’t worry; I have a friend who sells these things. I'll give him a call and ask him to open his shop for me." 0

"Really? That’s great! Hurry up!" 0

Liu Li's face lit up with relief as she smiled at me again, completely forgetting her earlier anger. 0

I nodded with a grin and turned around but then remembered something and spun back around. "Oh wait! Miss Liu, I just realized—I lost my phone! How am I supposed to call my friend?" 0

"What? No worries! Use mine!" 0

Liu Li promptly handed me her phone. I nodded gratefully and took it, dialing Linna's number without hesitation as I started chatting away. 0

"Hey, yeah, can you open up? I'm on my way over... But where's your address again? Nanming Road? Where's that? I don’t know—I lost my phone! Can you send me your location? I'm using someone else's phone right now!" 0

"Alright, alright! Just get him to send the location quickly. You can use my phone!" 0

Liu Li looked at me anxiously, clearly impatient. I chuckled and replied, "Alright then." After that, I mentioned that I could send my location and hung up the phone. Linna was very cooperative; being as clever as she was, she didn’t need to explain much. 0

I asked Liu Li for her phone's unlock code, then logged out of her WeChat and logged into mine, since I needed WeChat to receive the location. If I was going to put on a show, I had to do it right. 0

Once I had Liu Li's phone, she told me what kind of makeup products I would need and even gave me some money. I left Tianchi and headed to a nearby supermarket. Taking advantage of my lunch break, I bought a new set of makeup products based on Liu Li's suggestions and stored them in the supermarket's locker, ready to pick up later. 0

With plenty of time to spare, I didn’t rush back. Instead, I played around with Liu Li's phone. In her contacts, I found Wang Meng's number. Smirking, I saved his number and sent him a text. 0

"Did you lose your account book?" 0

Wang Meng didn’t respond. I figured either he hadn’t seen it or he was checking my number, but he wouldn’t be able to find anything out. 0

I remained calm for a while before grabbing the makeup and returning to Tianchi, where I unexpectedly ran into Li Jian! 0

"What have you been doing?" 0

Li Jian glared at me. I had been gone for about half an hour, so he must have noticed my absence. 0

"My words aren't finished yet," Liu Li said. 0

Smack! 0

Li Jian slapped my face hard. 0

"It’s working hours! Who the hell let you run off? Did you take leave? That’s a five hundred fine!" 0

Li Jian pointed at me aggressively. My face burned from the slap as I stared at him in disbelief. Did he really think he could hit me just like that? 0

At that moment, Liu Li appeared. Watching me get scolded by Li Jian, she said nothing but extended her hand towards me. "Give it to me." 0

I handed the makeup over to Liu Li. She took it and walked away without saying a word on my behalf. Damn it! Even though this was all part of my plan, wasn’t I helping her out? Here I was getting punished for running errands for her while she didn’t even say a word? This girl had no conscience! 0

Or maybe she just didn’t care about me at all! 0

"I went out to buy things for Liu Li," I said to Li Jian. The situation was clear; this wasn’t really my fault. But before I could finish explaining myself, Li Jian slapped me again! 0

"Is that your excuse? Huh? Don’t waste my time with your nonsense; if I say I'm docking your pay, then I'm docking it!" 0

I was fuming when suddenly my phone rang. Looking at the screen, I saw it was Wang Meng calling. 0
