Cao Minghui turned around and questioned Lu Qiang, and I suddenly understood why Lu Qiang had been beaten up like this. Cao Minghui knew he had no solid evidence against Xiong Li, so he decided to use Lu Qiang to frame him!
Lu Qiang was one of Xiong Li's underlings, and now with this false impression created under duress, Liu Haoran would naturally believe him to some extent. Moreover, considering the package I had left at Xiong Li's place earlier, there was a good chance that Liu Haoran would be convinced that everything was true. It seemed my teammate was somewhat reliable after all.
"Yes, yes, it was Hall Master Xiong who asked me to deliver the ice to He Bei. This has nothing to do with me!" Lu Qiang said nervously, almost on the verge of tears. His acting wasn't bad; the "He Bei" he mentioned must be Xiong Li's private property. Since selling such things was prohibited there, Xiong Li wouldn't dare to sell them at Tian Ye Gang.
"Heh, Xiong Li, I really didn't know you had your own place in He Bei," Liu Haoran sneered.
Xiong Li immediately pointed at Cao Minghui and shouted, "Cao Minghui! You bastard are framing me!"
"Xiong Li! What have I framed you for? Everything is your doing! It has nothing to do with me!" Cao Minghui retorted defiantly.
I watched from the side, feeling a bit more at ease. From Liu Haoran's gaze, I could tell he still believed the evidence before him more than anything else.
"Get the boss!" A small underling emerged from the bedroom carrying a men's leather bag—the very one I had tossed under the bed!
"Xiong Li, the evidence is irrefutable; both witness and material evidence are present. What else do you have to say?" Liu Haoran coldly looked at Xiong Li.
Upon hearing this, Xiong Li quickly replied, "Boss, this whole thing is a setup by Cao Minghui!"
As he spoke, he even looked at me! "And this kid! Xiang Dong, if I'm not mistaken, that bag was left by you at my place, right? So you’re just like Lu Qiang—a dog for Cao Minghui!"
Xiong Li said this with a face full of rage. During this time, I might have been the only one visiting his home; he figured it out. The flames of conflict were drawing me in.
"Xiong Laoda, what does this have to do with me? I don’t understand what you guys are talking about!" I feigned confusion. What could I say now? I could only keep playing along! Given the current situation, things were somewhat in our favor!
"What do you mean by that? Blaming it on your own underling? You can't escape responsibility," Cao Minghui said with a light laugh as he looked at Xiong Li.
Liu Haoran's cold gaze turned toward Xiong Li, which made me feel much more secure. Too much evidence pointed toward Xiong Li; even if he tried to drag me into it now, it wouldn’t work.
Thinking back on it now, I'm glad I didn't listen to Linna and chose to trust my teammate Cao Minghui today. If I hadn’t shown up, it would have implied guilt on my part and given Xiong Li a chance to argue his case.
"I can't escape? Why the hell would I want to escape? Boss, listen to me—Cao Minghui has been against me for quite some time now. Lu Qiang—he’s that kid behind you—he’s just a dog that Cao Minghui planted beside me! I've known about this for a long time! Today they conspired together to frame me! This is harming our own kind, Boss!"
Xiong Li defended himself. I saw Liu Haoran frown upon hearing Xiong Li's words and turn back to look at Lu Qiang. Lu Qiang suddenly shivered in panic; having the truth revealed by Xiong Li made him uneasy! He hurriedly said, "I’m not! I'm really not! Boss, I'm just with Xiong Ge; he really asked me to deliver ice!"
But why did I feel like you were lying?
Liu Haoran narrowed his eyes at Lu Qiang, exuding an intimidating presence. I knew Liu Haoran was trying to bluff Lu Qiang! After all, his relationship with Xiong Li was still quite good.
But at that moment, the useless Lu Qiang actually froze! He looked completely bewildered and turned to Cao Minghui with a questioning gaze. Damn it! A useless ally! That look spoke volumes!
Just then, Xiong Li pressed harder. "Lu Qiang! Honestly, I've wanted to take you down for a long time! But I thought keeping you around would confuse this idiot's perception. I have evidence of your collusion with Cao Minghui. Do you think you can survive this? Think about what you were doing on October 27th."
Xiong Li coldly questioned Lu Qiang, even mentioning a specific date! This concrete detail was very persuasive! It proved that Xiong Li truly knew the truth—he had known about Lu Qiang's dealings with Cao Minghui all along. That specific date felt like a heavy hammer, striking Lu Qiang's already fragile heart.
If Xiong Li really had evidence proving Lu Qiang's connection with Cao Minghui, then today’s events could be explained: it would be a conspiracy between Cao Minghui and me to frame Xiong Li! We would all be doomed!
However, even if Xiong Li knew about Lu Qiang's relationship with Cao Minghui, why would he keep evidence? Generally, knowing something is enough; there’s no need to hold onto proof! If he had evidence, he would have revealed it long ago! I was convinced he only knew but had no proof to back it up!
Right now, Xiong Li was clearly trying to bait Lu Qiang into confessing or to confuse Liu Haoran into seeing through the ruse! Who the hell said Xiong Li was an idiot? I was ready to turn against them!
This was a psychological battle!
With Liu Haoran applying pressure and Xiong Li pressing harder, Lu Qiang showed signs of cracking under the strain! The more he faltered, the more intense the pressure from both sides would become!
If Lu Qiang fell apart, both Cao Minghui and I would be dragged down with him!
