Puff!
The small knife walked up to the bed!
Without a moment's hesitation, it plunged into the heart of the body lying beneath the covers!
A single strike to kill!
Clean and decisive!
Huff.
I let out a sigh, my emotions inexplicably complex. Wan Fei also sighed; perhaps it was more accurate to say he breathed a sigh of relief. The plan had succeeded, the small knife had acted! Ning Chuan was already on Huangquan Road!
Let's go, it's time to have a talk with him.
I stood up, a faint cold smile on my face as I spoke. Wan Fei nodded in agreement and followed me out of the room.
Bang bang!
The door did not close; I leaned against it, watching in the moonlight as the small knife stood at the bedside, stunned and dazed. It knocked on the door behind me, waking the boy who had been lost in thought.
You! You!
The small knife turned around and saw me, instantly looking as if it had seen a ghost!
Indeed, in its eyes, I must now seem like a ghost—a ghost that died at its hands!
First time killing someone, and it was quite efficient.
A smile crept onto my lips as the small knife stared at me wide-eyed in disbelief, then turned back to pull aside the blood-soaked blanket.
Ning, Ning Duo?
The small knife looked at the person lying on the bed with a face full of shock, and I chuckled softly.
Yes, Ning Duo.
You bastard, you set me up! I'm going to kill you!
In an instant, the small knife went mad, charging at me with its blade drawn. I could only smile helplessly and remained still. Behind me surged several of Wan Fei's subordinates. The small knife had some skills, but outnumbered, it had no chance to turn the tables.
After a fierce struggle, the small knife managed to injure two of my men but was ultimately subdued by Wan Fei and his crew and pressed to the ground.
Ah! Xiang Dong! You bastard set me up! You set me up!
The small knife screamed in madness; it knew it had killed Tian Ye Group's leader—there was no one left in this world who could protect it now; it was doomed!
I set you up? You were the one trying to kill me!
I stepped forward and kicked the small knife hard in the side! This kick contained all my anger—the anger of being betrayed!
"Ah!"
The young man cried out in pain, unable to speak.
"Do you really think that by helping Chen Ming kill me, he would spare you? How naive! He will kill you! He will eliminate you to silence you! No matter who succeeds or fails in this matter, your outcome is certain! It's death! You chose this path to your own demise long ago! And now you dare say I harmed you?"
I spoke with anger, feeling the betrayal cut deep. I had once considered him a friend, and now my fury was overwhelming.
"How could this happen? I helped him! Why would he want to kill me?"
The young man shouted in disbelief. I stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face. Was he still not awake to the reality? So naive!
"Do you think the Underworld is a charity? You helped him frame our own! Once this is all over, what reason would Chen Ming have to keep you alive? Huh? Of course, he will eliminate you to erase any evidence of his betrayal!"
I shouted fiercely.
He froze for a moment.
"Ah!"
He let out a wail and then began to cry—his psychological burden was undoubtedly heavy. But there was no way out; he brought this upon himself. His life and death were no longer in my hands.
"Dong Ge, should we kill him?"
Wan Fei asked me, while the young man continued to sob without a word.
He deserved to die; he must take responsibility for his choices! Yet it shouldn't be me who dealt the blow.
"Let him go."
I said to Wan Fei, who looked taken aback.
"Let him go? Dong Ge, he betrayed you! He wanted to kill you!"
Wan Fei questioned in confusion.
Did he not believe that Chen Ming would kill him? Then I would give him another chance to see how long he could survive.
I smiled at Wan Fei. The young man had accidentally killed Ning Chuan; I would keep that secret. I would let Chen Ming know, but there was no way Chen Ming would spare him.
Unless absolutely necessary, I did not want blood on my hands—especially not that of someone I once considered a brother.
"Ha! Young man, did you hear that? Betraying Dong Ge? I truly don’t understand what you were thinking. Let him go!"
After hearing my words, Wan Fei ordered his subordinates. They immediately released the young man.
"Let’s go."
I looked at the somewhat dazed Little Knife and thought that he probably never expected I would let him go. After a moment, he glanced at me, said nothing, and left. Once he was gone, Wan Fei turned to me and asked, "Dong Ge, you're too sentimental. You not only let this kid go but even warned him that Chen Ming would kill him. Isn't that too generous?"
I chuckled at his words but didn't respond. When Little Knife plunged the dagger into Ning Chuan's body, he was no longer my brother; he wasn't even a passerby anymore—he was an enemy! I never show mercy to enemies.
Letting Little Knife go posed no threat to me. His real enemy in the future wouldn't be me but rather Chen Ming, who would soon be hunting him down! If Little Knife truly died at Chen Ming's hands, it would be a fitting outcome for him. If he survived, that would just be another headache for Chen Ming. They were both responsible for their own choices and consequences!
I edited the video and sent it to Chen Ming. I stepped out of the room; the smell of blood was too strong for my liking. Now that this matter was settled, Chen Ming's threat against me would no longer hold weight.
Everything I had discussed with Little Knife had been recorded, providing ample proof that Little Knife was indeed working for Chen Ming. This evidence would expose Chen Ming's betrayal of his own sect. The Tian Ye Group had strict rules against betraying fellow members, and this evidence was solid enough to cost Chen Ming his life in front of the new boss.
Of course, if this video were to leak, I wouldn’t survive either. But I knew that Chen Ming wouldn’t let it come to that; he wouldn’t choose mutual destruction with someone as insignificant as me!
"What the hell are you doing, Xiang Dong? What’s going on? Who’s dead?"
Not long after I sent the video to Chen Ming, he called me in a furious rage. It seemed that Little Knife was supposed to report back to him.
"Ning Chuan? Ning Duo? What happened, Chen Duo? Didn’t you want him dead? Now that he’s gone, you should be happy."
I laughed as I spoke; indeed, with Ning Chuan's death in this manner, there was no way Chen Ming could be pleased.
"Did you have Little Knife kill him? Damn it!" Chen Ming exploded with anger.
"Damn it! Don’t you dare compare yourself to me! I've been fed up with you for a long time! Are you threatening me?! Kill me now! I'll expose this video immediately! In it, Little Knife clearly admits he’s your man! Let’s see if you can save yourself then!"
I retaliated without holding back. Damn it! This wasn’t the first time Chen Ming had crossed me—first sending Liu Haoran to beat me up and then threatening me again. I was already furious!
"Are you trying to drag me down with you?"
Chen Ming's voice trembled with rage.
"And what if I am? Do you want to die? I'll accompany you!"
I gritted my teeth and said somewhat crazily. In moments like this, you had to act insane! You had to make the other party fear you! Only then would they consider backing down!
The line fell silent; perhaps Chen Ming realized the gravity of the situation now—it was a contest of who could be more ruthless! Who could care less about dying!
"Die if you must!" I told you, Xiang Dong, I'm not scared of Chen Ming.
I hung up the phone. Actions speak louder than words, and I didn't believe for a second that Chen Ming wasn't panicking!
Sure enough, just after I hung up, Chen Ming called again.
"What do you want, Chen Duo? Didn't we just agree? If it's death, then let's meet in hell."
I said this and hung up once more. Damn it! I'll scare you to death!
Then the phone rang again.
I ignored it.
It rang again!
"Chen Duo! Have you lost your mind? Do you think I'm free right now? Cherish your last moments! Don't waste them on me."
I said coldly. Chen Ming immediately panicked; no one is fearless in the face of death. The richer they are, the more they fear losing their lives.
"Xiang Dong! Xiang Dong! We need to talk! Why make this a life-or-death situation? In the end, we all lose. What's the point?"
Chen Ming started to speak. He was right; if he insisted on dragging us both down, then we would both be losers.
"Stop with the nonsense, Chen Duo. I'm not in the mood to listen," I cut him off, giving him no face at all.
"Xiang Dong, this isn't just my problem. If this escalates, you'll be in trouble too. How about this: I'll take a step back and let you set some conditions. You tell me what you want, and I'll consider it."
Chen Ming suggested. I couldn't help but chuckle; if only you'd said that sooner!
The most likely outcome was exactly as it was now—Chen Ming couldn't intimidate me anymore and would have to make some concessions to avoid mutual destruction.
Of course, those concessions had their limits. If I pushed Chen Ming too hard, it wouldn't benefit me either.
Then I'd be after Liu Haoran's position.
I spoke up with that condition in mind. Chen Ming naturally wasn't surprised and immediately agreed. We discussed the situation regarding Ning Chuan; with one helm gone, Tian Ye Group would surely send someone to investigate. Chen Ming claimed he could intercept the investigation and find two scapegoats to blame it on—a feud gone wrong—since the new boss wouldn't care about Ning Chuan's death anyway.
After hanging up the phone, I smiled with satisfaction. Chen Ming wanted to use me to eliminate Ning Chuan, while Ning Chuan wanted to use me against Chen Ming. Both were scheming against each other while trying to make me their pawn in this battle.
Yet inadvertently, I had become the biggest winner in their plans!
