Well, my mom likes you and hates me.
I naturally said, and it's strange; I don't feel nervous when facing Chen Ming and the others, but when Linna questions me, I inexplicably feel guilty. Perhaps it's because I love her and care about her.
Hmph! No way! You're lying! There must be something fishy about this!
Linna snorted coldly, and I was instantly stunned. No way, you really figured it out? How should I respond?
No! I must deny it!
If Linna doesn't accept my plan and insists on staying, that would be too dangerous! I can't allow Linna to be even slightly threatened!
How could there be something fishy? It's just that my mom wants you to keep her company; what could be suspicious about that? She didn't say to take me along because she knows I have to work. If I don't work, how can I support the family?
I forced myself to say, and Linna narrowed her eyes at me.
Really? Are you sure it wasn't you who called your mom to ask me to come?
I suddenly jolted!
I knew this little girl wouldn't let it go!
How could that be? Are you overthinking it? Why would I do that?
I put on a helpless smile, genuinely feeling that having such a smart daughter-in-law is both a blessing and a curse.
My mom told me long ago that once a man gains power and influence, he is bound to go astray. Maybe you think I'm a burden?
Linna raised an eyebrow at me, her sharp gaze seeming to see right through my heart! It was terrifying!
How could that be? Haha! Your mom's words are not quite right; you know how much I love you. You're overthinking it; I wouldn't do such a thing.
I hurriedly said, but Linna chuckled lightly and said, "My mom also said that in such situations, women should not interfere; leaving with dignity is the best choice! I'll trust you this time, but if you pull any tricks, you'd better not let me find out, got it?"
Linna looked at me with a grin. Although she was smiling, I felt an overwhelming chill!
This little girl has been pampered since childhood; she has a strong personality and an even stronger sense of territory! That's what worries me. What if Linna leaves but has some tricks up her sleeve? What if she finds out I've rented another girlfriend to replace her?
Damn it!
If Linna doesn't tear me apart, it would be a miracle!
But this is something I have to do! At this moment, I'm also considering whether it's better to come clean with Linna about the situation.
But would that really avoid misunderstandings?
After all, just moments ago, I lied to Linna. I said this matter had nothing to do with me. If I reveal the truth now, even if Linna believes me, I'm still bound to get a beating.
And she will definitely believe it; perhaps she'll think I'm afraid of her investigation and made up this whole story.
I once again reaffirmed my previous decision: since I didn't want Linna to know, I wouldn't tell her. There was no point in doing so; all it would accomplish was to make her worry and imagine me spending time with another woman. It was better to let her enjoy her time with my mother, wandering around happily, while I dealt with these troublesome matters alone in Kyoto.
That evening, I handed Linna a bank card with five million on it for her to use while she was at home. I had managed to secure ten million from Ning Chuan and an additional fifty million from Chen Ming. After giving Linna a total of ten million, I also allocated a million each to Zheng Yu and Wan Fei, instructing them to set aside some for their own subordinates.
I rewarded all the subordinates from Vermilion Bird Hall and White Tiger Hall as well. After purchasing a car for myself, I found that I only had twenty million left. This time, renting a girlfriend would cost another ten million, leaving me with just ten million.
But I wasn't worried about money; the Security Department's profits were substantial, and my various businesses were doing well enough that I earned enough each month to cover my expenses.
That night, I booked Linna a flight to Harbin online. There was no time to waste; it was best to send her off quickly to prevent Zheng Yu from losing control or Chen Ming from sending someone else to investigate Linna. Linna was very cooperative, confirming the date of her departure. Today was the thirteenth, and I had purchased her ticket for the fifteenth. She mentioned that she couldn't visit my parents empty-handed and planned to buy gifts for them at the mall the next day.
Of course, at this time, I had to secretly assign someone to follow her while she shopped, just in case something unexpected happened. Additionally, I arranged for a few reliable subordinates from White Tiger Hall to discreetly protect Linna and my family during her trip.
On the fifteenth, I didn't go to see Linna off. In fact, we rarely went out together; the airport would be crowded and chaotic. If someone recognized Linna and then connected her to me, it would jeopardize everything I had done for her revenge.
I sat in my office chair at the Security Department, glancing at the clock and realizing that Linna should be taking off by now. A sigh of relief escaped me; as long as Linna posed no threat, my situation would be simpler.
"Dong Ge, what's going on? Does my sister-in-law still need someone following her? Is there really someone who dares oppose us?"
A subordinate came into my office asking about the situation. The people I sent to protect Linna were from White Tiger Hall, so he naturally knew about them.
"Remember this: you can't mention this matter to anyone," I instructed him firmly.
He paused for a moment before responding, "So there really are people opposing us? Who is it that's making you so nervous?"
His surprise was understandable; after all, everyone knew my current status. Even Chen Ming had to give me some respect in public. In Kyoto, who would dare go against me?
However, I didn't plan on sharing this information with him. The fewer people who knew about it, the better for everyone involved.
"Forget it; knowing won't help you at all. It's all behind-the-scenes stuff that can be quite stressful. Just remember not to mention it to anyone," I advised him.
He nodded in agreement but didn't say anything further. We chatted about his recent business activities; he managed a bar now and was doing quite well with several promotional plans in place.
While we were talking, Zheng Yu arrived with a girl—a slender figure with black hair tied back in a ponytail, wearing jeans and a small jacket. She looked stunning and exuded an air of confidence!
"Ah, Yu Ge is here! Please have a seat!"
Seeing Zheng Yu arrive, my subordinate quickly welcomed him over; they had met before.
"Hey, you're here too," Zheng Yu said with a smile as he took a seat nearby. He glanced at me but said nothing further; clearly, he didn't want my subordinate involved in our plans since they weren't familiar with each other yet. It was normal for him not to trust someone he barely knew.
"Oh! Brother Dong, I still have a child, so I'll take my leave first."
Upon seeing Zheng Yu arrive without saying a word, I immediately understood the situation. I stood up and smiled, nodding my head. However, it felt a bit off, as if I were treating him like an outsider. But having one more person aware of our plans only added to the danger; after all, what we were involved in was a matter of life and death. It was wise to be cautious.
"You don't have any objections, do you?"
After he left, Zheng Yu spoke up. I chuckled and replied, "I'll find a chance to talk to him; he will understand."
Zheng Yu nodded in agreement and then introduced me to the girl he had brought along.
"This is Xiao Ying," he said, gesturing towards her. "And Brother Dong, this is Lu Ying. She’s here to help us with this plan."
"Lu Ying," I said with a smile, "this mission is quite challenging. Thank you for your help."
Lu Ying returned my smile and said, "Brother Dong is too polite. Although the operation isn't simple, the reward you're offering is substantial. I will definitely live up to your expectations and help you complete this mission!"
I nodded in response and said, "Since that's the case, I won't go into too much detail about the dangers involved; I'm sure you understand. Here’s a ten million check for you."
I pulled out the already signed ten million check from my desk. As someone posing as the girlfriend of Brother Heihui, facing other formidable members of Heihui naturally came with significant risks.
If anything went wrong during the operation and Lu Ying fell into Chen Ming's hands, we would have no way to rescue her. What awaited Lu Ying then?
House arrest!
By the time Chen Ming finished with me, she wouldn't escape unscathed either!
Given the perilous nature of this task, since Lu Ying was willing to help me, I needed to show my sincerity. After all, if things went south, who would Lu Ying turn to for compensation?
When I presented the check, Lu Ying was momentarily taken aback. She then looked at Zheng Yu as if seeking his approval.
"Take it; Brother Dong has always been reliable," Zheng Yu grinned.
With that reassurance, Lu Ying smiled and nodded before stepping forward to take the check from my desk while thanking me.
I must say that Lu Ying was indeed beautiful; Zheng Yu had done well in this regard. After all, she was playing the role of the big brother's woman—she had to be attractive for credibility's sake.
Most importantly, it was pleasing to look at.
As for Xiao Ying's identity, it goes without saying that she must be someone from Zheng Yu's backing forces. Perhaps there were pieces of information that could not be gleaned from Zheng Yu himself; I could potentially extract them from Xiao Ying!
"Now let's discuss our next plan," I continued. "Tonight, Xiao Ying will stay at Brother Dong's place. In a couple of days, someone will follow Brother Dong home. You two must act convincingly; when walking outside together, you need to appear affectionate."
