"Thank you for your concern," Kang Qin said weakly. Even through the phone, I could almost picture her little bunny-like appearance. I couldn't help but worry again; how could such a girl possibly confront Lu Xian? It was utterly ridiculous.
"If you really want to thank me, then please be honest and don't act recklessly. If you do, it will cause me a lot of trouble," I warned her. I was genuinely worried that she might get into trouble, and the thought of her losing her life was terrifying. If something happened to her, would I save her or not?
Kang Qin quickly assured me that she understood and that I shouldn't worry. She knew I was someone who would never make things difficult for her, and after hearing that, I finally felt a bit more at ease.
However, reality often defies our wishes. Just two days later, Kang Qin went missing!
"Lu Xian! Did you kidnap my girlfriend?" I shouted into the phone. "Our conflict is between us; don't drag a woman into this!"
I dialed Lu Xian's number, my anger boiling over. At this moment, the only person who could have kidnapped Kang Qin was Lu Xian!
"Third Brother! What the hell are you talking about? Listen here, you little brat, don't spout nonsense! Why would I help your woman?" Lu Xian's voice came through, sounding equally furious, as if he were trying to deny any wrongdoing.
"Let's skip the useless talk, Lu Xian. Just tell me why Kang Qin is missing. Who else could it be if not you? I've got no issues with anyone else!" I pressed him.
Lu Xian denied it vehemently and resisted fiercely, which surprised me. If he had truly kidnapped Kang Qin, he should have been straightforward about negotiating terms instead of hiding behind excuses.
"I already told you it wasn't me! Even if you're against me, do you really think I'd kidnap your girlfriend? Use your brain for a second! Right now, I'm the prime suspect! Whether it's you or Lu Fei or even Dad, they're all questioning me! Do you think I'm crazy enough to kidnap your girlfriend?" Lu Xian yelled back at me.
In that moment, I felt disoriented. He had a point; if he wanted to get back at me, having Kang Qin die in an accident would be the ultimate punishment. If he had indeed kidnapped her, both Lu Ding Tian and Lu Fei would suspect him and keep a close watch on his every move. If he directed me to do anything suspicious, Dad would find out immediately that he was behind it—and Dad would be furious.
"So tell me what the hell is going on!" I demanded coldly.
"I don't know! Am I obligated to keep an eye on your girlfriend? Go ask your big brother!" Lu Xian snapped back angrily, sounding jealous and frustrated.
I let out a cold laugh before responding, "I've already talked to my big brother about this. But from what I know, his connections aren't as extensive as yours. If you don't help me with this matter, I'll just go tell him that I'm done working with him and head over to your place for a chat! How does that sound?"
I pressed him further. If I did this, Lu Ding Tian would undoubtedly suspect that Lu Xian was behind the kidnapping of his daughter-in-law! Surely Lu Xian wouldn't want his suspicion to grow any larger?
"What did you just say? You little brat think you're clever?" Lu Xian fumed.
I remained silent and waited for his response.
"Listen here, Third Brother. Your wife is also my sister-in-law; she's part of our Lu family. Honestly, I have no idea what's going on with her disappearance. I'm not lying to you. How about we stop throwing insults at each other and work together? Let me help you find her," Lu Xian finally said.
Lu Xian took a step back and helplessly said to me. After hearing this, I sighed in frustration. If Lu Xian couldn't even articulate anything, it seemed he truly had no intention of saying more; perhaps he really didn't know anything.
I hung up the phone and called Lu Fei to inquire about the specifics of Kang Qin's disappearance. From Lu Fei, I learned that Kang Qin hadn't encountered any suspicious individuals before her disappearance. She rarely went out, being quite the homebody, and this incident left him just as puzzled, unsure of who could be behind it.
Lu Fei and Lu Xian, both prominent figures in Qing Gang, usually had the power to manipulate situations at will. Yet, with a young girl missing, they couldn't even identify a single suspect? Moreover, who would dare to target someone from Qing Gang? Especially a woman connected to the Third Young Master of Qing Gang?
It seemed this matter was far from simple. Was it related to Nan Hongmen? Or perhaps North Hongmen?
"Third Brother, just wait a bit longer. If they’ve kidnapped Kang Qin, they will definitely come looking for you," Lu Fei told me. I hung up the phone, realizing he was right. If they had taken Kang Qin, they must want something from me; they would come to find me for what they desired.
That night, I received a call from an unknown number.
"Yan Shao Ye, is it?" A voice rasped on the other end.
"Who are you?" I asked, my anger boiling inside me. I hated when people kidnapped those close to me to threaten me; it was truly despicable!
"Who I am doesn't matter. What matters is that your woman is in our hands. Do you want to save her? Or would you prefer to watch a video of her being violated by a group of men?" The raspy voice said lewdly.
I felt my blood boil with rage. Although my relationship with Kang Qin was nothing special, damn it! I was a man! A man of integrity! How could I stand by and let a woman suffer because of me?
"Just get to the point! Stop wasting time!" I gritted my teeth and demanded. The raspy voice chuckled mockingly before replying, "I have no other intentions; I just hope you can be a bit more restrained with Tian Ye Group. Don’t push me too hard, or I will do something you won't be able to accept."
The raspy voice revealed his purpose, and suddenly everything clicked into place—I recognized this person!
North Hongmen! The force behind Du Tao!
Damn it! Wasn’t this supposed to be my decision? Didn’t they know my identity? I was merely an illegitimate child! Even if I didn’t take action against Tian Ye Group, do you think Lu Fei and Lu Xian wouldn’t?
I protested; after all, there was nothing I could do about this situation.
Do you think they will?
To my surprise, the other party actually asked me back, "Do you think they will?" What does that mean? What does this statement imply?
I suddenly recalled the first time I discussed this matter with the Lu Family. I remembered that it was during a conversation among the three elders of the Lu Family when this topic came up. Who brought it up first? It was Lu Ding Tian!
And then? Lu Xian remarked that the Tian Ye Group was nothing but a mob and could be dealt with casually in the future. Indeed, that was a clear indication of not wanting to handle the Tian Ye Group, suggesting some procrastination.
What about Lu Fei? He also seemed in no rush to deal with the Tian Ye Group. He merely stated that the waters of the Tian Ye Group were murky, perhaps trying to make Lu Ding Tian wary.
Then Lu Xian spoke up, saying he planned to eliminate Du Tao from the Tian Ye Group. At this moment, Lu Xian's attitude seemed different from before; originally, he had no intention of getting involved, but now that Lu Fei had spoken, he wanted to take action?
Or was he actually trying to protect the Tian Ye Group? Was he afraid of Lu Fei and Lu Ding Tian intervening?
Later, Aunt Wu signaled for Lu Xian not to go. Initially, I thought Aunt Wu believed it was dangerous for him to be involved with the Tian Ye Group, but it seems things were not so simple after all.
Lu Xian is very likely affiliated with North Hongmen! He is definitely not part of Nan Hongmen; is he aligned with Du Tao's faction? Kang Qin's intel must have been wrong!
But thinking it over, Kang Qin received this information when she was at her most vulnerable; how could she have focused enough to listen attentively? Perhaps both Nan Hongmen and North Hongmen were mentioned, leading her to mishear.
This time, Lu Xian brought me to the Tian Ye Group out of necessity. My collaboration with Lu Fei at Qing Gang's Enforcement Hall had significantly impacted him, forcing him to kick me out. The original plan must have been for me to die at the Tian Ye Group?
