At the Royal Post Station of Great Zhou, Jiu Gong met with Hong Qianjun. Behind Hong Qianjun stood a young man dressed in a long robe, swaying a feather fan. This young man’s gaze was fixed on Jiu Gong, his eyes filled with possessive desire. He was Mu Jinkun, one of the three great masters of the Xia Guo Literary Circle.
Mu Jinkun was overjoyed to learn that Jiu Gong's other lover, Quan Gai Su Wen, had been shot dead in the Great Zhou Capital just over ten days ago. He thought to himself that this time, he would be able to enjoy Jiu Gong all to himself. When he heard Jiu Gong mention being bullied by Jiang Han, he felt an urge to rush over and settle the score with Jiang Han immediately.
“Don’t be anxious, Mu Jinkun,” Jiu Gong reassured him. With a sigh, Mu Jinkun replied, “I will personally take action in tomorrow’s poetry competition. I will make Su Qianxue pay for what she has done!”
Upon hearing this, Jiu Gong displayed a proud expression; her man was always so exceptional! One scholar, one warrior, and one Holy Monk—any one of these three men could shake the world. Even with the loss of Quan Gai Su Wen, she still had two capable men left to deal with Jiang Han.
“Prince! Are you saying that Su Qianxue is backed by Jiang Han?” Hong Qianjun asked after listening to everything Jiu Gong had said. He stroked his beard and said, “Jiu Gong, throughout history, there has never been a first in literature or a second in martial arts! Mu Jinkun is my prized disciple; his literary talent may not overshadow everyone else’s, but he is certainly among the best!”
He continued, “Even if Jiang Han is extraordinary, I doubt his poetry can surpass that of Mu Jinkun. As long as you seek out the Langya Prince and have his people declare that Mu Jinkun’s verses are superior, then he will surely overshadow Su Qianxue. Especially with this upcoming Keju examination; we must ensure our people serve as examiners.”
He expressed that if they could secure this arrangement and win the poetry competition, then in the future, all Keju examinations in Great Zhou would have people from Xia Kingdom serving as examiners. In that case, ten years later, the Great Zhou Dynasty would be thoroughly dismantled! All the talent would be swept away by Xia Kingdom.
After considering Hong Qianjun's words, Jiu Gong replied thoughtfully, “That sounds feasible; however, I have another plan!” She revealed her idea of having her people dine at Jiang Han's establishment and get poisoned. Ultimately, she stated that such an action could prevent Jiang Han from participating in the poetry competition altogether! Whether he truly participated or assisted behind the scenes, if there was an incident involving food poisoning at his restaurant, he would be unable to attend!
“However,” Hong Qianjun shook his head and said, “this scheme seems rather malicious! After all, we are people of a superior nation; it wouldn’t be right to deal with Jiang Han in such a manner.”
He couldn't bring himself to do such a thing, and even advised Jiu Gong against it. However, Jiu Gong was determined and insisted that he would go through with it. After hearing this, Hong Qianjun chose not to say anything further.
Before long, Hong Qianjun returned to his room to rest. Meanwhile, Mu Jinkun spoke up, "I have some junior disciples who can help you."
"Good, I want someone dead!" Jiu Gong declared.
In the capital city, at Jiang Han's restaurant, customers were coming and going, eager to enjoy the delicious food. Dishes like braised pork, spicy chicken, and scallion stir-fried sea cucumber were favorites among the city's elite. Cen Ya and Yan Dong were bustling about, and even Piao Xue had come out to help at the front desk, taking orders.
Jiang Han was patrolling the restaurant, pleased to see the diners enjoying their meals. He thought to himself, "These pre-packaged meals are not bad! Just heat them up and serve; it's much better than hiring a chef on-site."
Suddenly, a commotion erupted. "Someone's dead! What should we do? There’s someone here who’s eaten and died; they’re foaming at the mouth!" The shouts echoed throughout the restaurant, causing all the patrons to rush over to see what was happening.
Jiang Han hurried to the scene and found a scholar-like figure with Mei Cai Kou Rou in his mouth, foaming as he lay there. Jiang Han was taken aback. He checked the dishes and thought, "I bought these pre-packaged meals from a reputable factory! Even if there’s an issue, it should only cause diarrhea. It’s impossible for someone to die from it! Pre-packaged meals can’t be that toxic!"
"Boss! Someone died eating at your place! What are you going to do about it?" The deceased's companion grabbed Jiang Han by the collar, pressing him for answers.
Jiang Han was stunned and momentarily speechless. He didn’t know if it was the factory that sold him the pre-packaged meals that had been unscrupulous enough to include something harmful.
Seeing Jiang Han's silence, the surrounding diners grew agitated, pointing at him and demanding an explanation. Cen Ya, Yan Dong, Piao Xue, and the other three women pushed through the crowd to stand in front of Jiang Han.
"Our Shopkeeper Jiang would never sell food that could kill someone; there must be something else going on!"
"Everyone, quiet down! We, Shopkeeper Jiang, would never harm anyone!"
"We, Shopkeeper Jiang, have no need to poison anyone with our dishes. Besides, just look at the spit; it's obvious he was poisoned!"
The three women were desperately explaining.
Jiang Han stared at the deceased, still somewhat dazed. He thought to himself, if there really was a problem with the pre-prepared dishes, then it shouldn't just be one person dead. Those pre-prepared meals were made by a large machine; if there was an issue, then everyone who ate those dishes today should be affected—every single one of them should be dead. It was impossible for only one person to die! There must be something wrong! Perhaps someone had poisoned him!
At the entrance, Mu Jinkun heard the commotion and sauntered in. Upon seeing Jiang Han surrounded by the diners, a wicked smile crept across his lips. Then he quickly transformed his expression into one of sorrow and rushed over to support the deceased.
He shouted, "Oh, my junior! You traveled such a long way just to enjoy some culinary delights, and now you've met such a tragic end here! This cursed restaurant! You only wanted to savor the food, yet who would have thought you would encounter such misfortune? My dear junior, your departure is so tragic!"
The surrounding diners gasped; this was a foreign Ru Scholar who had died here! They became even more agitated!
Many diners began clamoring to confront Jiang Han.
Seeing Mu Jinkun's antics and glancing towards the entrance where Jiu Gong stood, Jiang Han suddenly understood.
Damn it! The adulterous couple is framing me! Jiu Gong really is willing to go to great lengths. To slander me, they would even poison their own people! I showed mercy by not dealing with you back then, Jiu Gong! This time, you won’t escape—neither will your adulterous partner!
"Make way!"
"We are from the Five Cities Military Command! A murder has occurred here; we have arrived!"
A commanding officer pushed through the crowd and stepped forward. "Who is the owner of this restaurant?"
