Yan Kongyue was a bit surprised by the response. As a police officer, he was supposed to believe in science and eliminate superstitions. 0

"That makes things easier. How long did it take from when you received the emergency call to when you arrived at the scene?" 0

"About ten minutes or so. This area is quite busy, and it was noon, so there was some traffic." 0

He didn't elaborate; that wasn't important. What I want to say is that the deceased must have been under some kind of control. Before anyone discovered him, he should have still had a breath left. Judging by his wounds and the amount of blood loss, he must have started suffering around midnight. 0

Lin Zhuo's mind raced as he processed Yan Kongyue's words. He found them hard to believe and hesitated before asking, "What kind of control? And how can you be sure he was being tortured?" 0

"First of all, this kind of control isn't something an ordinary person can execute. Secondly, the level of injury is far more severe than mere torture; it’s almost akin to slow slicing. Yet his muscles and skin were relaxed—what does that indicate? Was he completely numb while being cut like this?" 0

"No, that's not it. He was sliced into thousands of pieces. The killer must have had a motive beyond mere boredom; they wanted him to fully experience this process. The fact that the deceased didn’t struggle during such a painful ordeal means he was definitely under some form of control. Even if he was in excruciating pain, he could only endure silently." 0

Seeing Lin Zhuo deep in thought, Yan Kongyue continued, "In ancient times, there was a technique called Severing Soul Technique. A spell is cast on a person's soul that allows them to be detached from their body while simultaneously amplifying their pain several times over. The most terrifying aspect of this technique is that it can control the timing of a person's death. In other words, the caster can set a condition; only upon triggering that condition will the person die." 0

"What happens if the condition isn't triggered?" 0

"Then they must endure endless suffering!" 0

That was brutal! Lin Zhuo felt a chill run down his spine. 0

"That's why I say he was tortured." 0

Lin Zhuo nodded; it seemed clear that this person must have done something heinous to end up like this. Otherwise, why would someone go to such lengths to punish him? 0

"There's one more important point: the deceased's soul should still be nearby, but I didn’t find it just now." 0

"What does it mean if there's no soul?" On the surface, Lin Zhuo appeared calm, but inside he was shaken. He had solved many cases and encountered numerous bizarre situations, but today Yan Kongyue had given him a lesson. 0

"Normally, a person controlled by Severing Soul Technique would suffer severe damage to their soul but wouldn’t be completely dissipated. However, I didn't find any trace of his soul nearby—not even any Gui Qi." 0

Yan Kongyue rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Wait a moment; let me call Xie Bian and ask him." 0

"Alright, I'll call a colleague!" Lin Zhuo didn’t even realize that he had no doubts about what the young girl said. 0

Meanwhile, in Difu, King Yan Xie Bian and Fan Wu Jiu were enjoying some chicken with Gui Chai. 0

"Xie Bian!" 0

Hearing that voice made all four ghosts tense up; they froze in place as the game notification rang in their ears: Keep it up! 0

"Xie Bian!" Yan Kongyue's voice rose another notch. 0

Here they come, here they come! 0

Lin Zhuo and Gu Yan had just reached the doorway when a chill wafted out from inside. Lin Zhuo frowned; the room hadn't been this cold just moments ago, and he had only been gone for less than two minutes. 0

"Wow, Lin Team, why do I feel like this place is scarier than a crime scene?" Gu Yan instinctively shrank his neck. 0

"Hey, are you afraid of ghosts?" Yan Kongyue asked Gu Yan. 0

"Not at all!" Gu Yan straightened his back immediately; he couldn't let the police officer down. 0

"What a brave young man!" Yan Kongyue gave him a thumbs-up. "Just don't cry later." 0

"I'm not afraid either!" Lin Zhuo quickly declared, meeting Yan Kongyue's gaze. He was already an adult; there was no way he would show weakness in front of an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl. 0
