Feng Xing scratched his brow and took a few steps forward, skillfully blocking everyone behind him. Just a moment later, a chilling wind suddenly swept through the back of the house. A shadow slowly rose and quickly soared above the courtyard.
Warmth made her shiver, but she did not back down. Instead, she clenched her small fists and stood there, glaring angrily at the old Taoist priest. "Chu Ling, it's your turn!" Feng Xing twisted her waist as if to stretch her muscles, deliberately provoking the old man across from her.
Just as the old Taoist was about to mock Feng Xing and the others, a series of crisp sounds echoed from iron rings clashing. "Chu Ling!" A sinister and distant voice resonated, and at the same time, a tall figure shot up from behind Feng Xing, directly confronting the shadow above the courtyard.
Holding the ghost head, Chu Ling floated opposite the shadow. The sound of iron rings on the ghost head alone was enough to make the shadow tremble. The old Taoist looked at Chu Ling in terror; clearly, he had some skill in summoning spirits. As soon as Chu Ling appeared, he sensed that things were not going well, but his desire to survive quickly overtook his panic.
With his wrinkled hands continuously forming seals, the shadow in the courtyard charged towards Chu Ling. Chu Ling simply met it head-on and struck out; the shadow split in two. However, it did not end there. As the old Taoist stared in disbelief at the shadow above the courtyard, those two halves began to break apart into many small fragments, drifting down like ashes from burnt paper until they vanished before him.
Yan Kongyue stood quietly to one side with the Retrieval Umbrella raised, keeping a close watch on the onlooking Taoists. "Old man, if you have any tricks up your sleeve, show them! Let me teach you how to behave!"
As expected, the old Taoist raised his hand and bit his fingertip, drawing something in mid-air for quite some time. Feng Xing couldn't understand what he was drawing, and neither could Yan Kongyue; it seemed he was concocting some spell of his own.
However, a larger shadow roared as it charged down from the back mountain. In an instant, a chilling wind surged forth, stones flew about, and trees on the mountain seemed ready to be uprooted. The shadow blotted out the sun as it descended from the peak. The old Taoist continued to form seals without daring to relax for even a moment; he knew that trouble was coming—police were already on their way—and whatever he had done would surely be exposed.
But he was unwilling to accept defeat and certainly wouldn't surrender easily. Even though he knew that what he had raised was no match for them, he still wanted to fight back.
Chu Ling merely held his ghost head floating in mid-air; without surprise, with just one move, he sent away the spirit he had painstakingly nurtured for twenty years into oblivion. The old Taoist spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed onto the ground.
Yan Xiao Jun stepped forward and placed handcuffs on him. Yan Kongyue put away her Retrieval Umbrella and stomped her foot on the ground infused with spiritual energy. A circle of golden light gradually expanded outward; as it passed beneath those Taoists' feet, their dazed expressions changed into astonishment as they looked toward Zhong Ren in the courtyard.
"Captain Yan," she said while directing them toward the old Taoist's room. "Contact your department to send someone over with an ambulance. There are still a few people alive in his secret chamber inside, but their conditions are not good." She reminded herself that she was still a healer as she moved toward the old man's room.
"Lin Qian, come help me. Feng Xing, take Chu Ling to the backyard to check on a few little ghosts." Just as he thought of something, Yan Kongyue turned back.
"Here, take the Retrieval Umbrella."
"Got it!" Feng Xing took the Retrieval Umbrella and headed towards the backyard with Chu Ling.
"Yan Kongyue, I remember you left your Retrieval Umbrella at the bar for Second Brother, didn't you?"
"Who told you I only have one Retrieval Umbrella?"
"Captain, I recorded a video. Can you see if it can be used as evidence?" Chen Shu handed his phone to Yan Xiao Jun.
Hearing this, Yan Kongyue replied, "It's useless; phones can't capture ghosts! Don't worry, my Retrieval Umbrella can do the job. You can take it back as evidence later."
"Oh!"
