The battle was on the verge of breaking out, and Lin Lang and Huo Jingyu summoned their Ghost Guardians. Although they were outnumbered, their combat strength was formidable. The crowd of enemies was gradually thinning, but the further back they went, the stronger the foes seemed to become.
"Damn, the monsters behind us are getting stronger," Huo Jingyu said, swinging his large blade with increasing vigor, exuding an unstoppable momentum.
"Is Lin Qian being hidden away?" Lin Lang felt a twinge of worry for Lin Qian; he had no weapon and no allies.
"He’s underground. Once we finish here, we’ll find him!" Yan Kongyue had swept this area with her spiritual energy when she kicked down the door.
Meanwhile, Lin Qian was awakened by Yan Kongyue’s spiritual energy. He found himself locked in a Ton Room, with only a single oil lamp illuminating the space and a pile of hay beneath him.
Seeing his surroundings, Lin Qian pinched the bridge of his nose and forced a smile. He had gotten out of the car to check the road ahead, but after just a few steps, he spotted someone sitting by the roadside. The fog was thick, and he could only make out a silhouette. Initially thinking someone had fallen, he approached and realized it was a woman—a very seductive woman.
The night, the road conditions, and this woman instantly put Lin Qian on high alert. However, it was too late; as he got a clear look at her face, a faint fragrance wafted over him, and then everything went dark.
Lin Qian regretted his decision to approach her. He shouldn’t have come this way. The woman also seemed to regret that one capture was insufficient; she realized in the city that this person was extraordinary, possessing a power they did not understand.
In the center of the city stood an all-wooden high-rise building with five stories, constructed entirely with mortise and tenon joints. Its exterior was intricately carved and exuded an ancient grandeur, while inside it was resplendent with gold and jewels.
“How should we deal with this person?” asked the seductive woman. However, her voice carried both masculine and feminine tones—indicating that she was not just one person but rather a body shared by both a man and a woman.
“Let’s keep him locked up for now!” said a man with disheveled hair wearing strange adornments, lazily leaning back in a wide chair clad in a black robe.
“Did I get myself into trouble?”
“Indeed you did, and it’s quite serious!”
“What should we do now?”
“What can we do? I told you not to act rashly when you saw a man, but you wouldn’t listen!” The male voice within the woman brimmed with resentment.
“You’re one to talk! You only brought them over because you found him attractive!”
“Enough! Your intentions have been clear for ages.”
“So what do we do now? They don’t seem easy to handle, especially that woman.”
“Let’s observe for now; we can wear them down. We’re in our territory here; there’s no need to fear them!” The man’s demeanor suggested confidence as he regarded them with disdain.
They had nearly finished off the townsfolk.
What’s the rush? The man suddenly stood up and strode toward the window.
At the crossroads, Yan Kongyue stood proudly, gripping a black Grim Reaper's Scythe. The blade was embedded in the blue stone slab, which had cracked extensively, with fissures of varying sizes radiating outward—clearly, the force was tremendous.
"Jiu Ming! Release my people!" Yan Kongyue's face flushed slightly as she glared at the man on the high building with her bright eyes.
"Who are you?"
"You’re not worthy to know who I am."
"Then you can forget about seeing the person you want."
"Hmph, it doesn’t matter if you don’t tell me. I can find them myself, but just know that the consequences will be something you won’t want to witness."
"Little girl, don’t be too arrogant. Jiuyin City has existed for over two thousand years; you can't shake it."
"Oh? Then give it a try!"
"Try? Heh, do you think Jiuyin City is just any place you can come and go as you please?" The man sneered as he glanced at Yan Kongyue, feeling that something was off.
"Stop wasting time. You just want to take us away, right? Then go ahead and try; this city still has a say in whether it listens to you."
The man was taken aback for a moment, then waved his hand. The entire city trembled slightly, but afterward, there was no further movement.
