As the name "Universal Qi Training Method" echoed in his mind, John instinctively assumed the posture, moving through the seven forms with deliberate slowness. Controlling his breath, he endeavored to circulate his blood in harmony with each position.
Each movement was agonizingly slow, yet each one brought a tearing pain that coursed through him. His blood felt like it was boiling, and the energy he expended left him feeling ravenous after just one round of the seven forms. Upon completing the final movement, he endured the aching throughout his body and grabbed a few radishes nearby, devouring them hungrily. Three radishes served as a base, and after consuming two bowls of wheat rice, he finally felt satisfied.
John was grateful for the hardships he had faced in recent days; they had instilled in him the courage and perseverance to complete this round of seven movements. In the past, he might have faltered at the first movement due to pain. He also appreciated his current identity as a chef, which allowed him to sneak food without raising suspicion. Otherwise, the hunger he had just experienced would surely have drawn attention—an especially dangerous predicament for someone who had recently escaped slavery.
After finishing his practice, John opened his status panel to check for any changes in his soldier profile.

His proficiency had increased slightly. It seemed that practicing the Universal Qi Training Method could indeed elevate his soldier level. With a means to level up, hope surged within him; he was determined to push forward—fearless.
He resumed his training, focusing on maintaining his form. John wanted to grow stronger and take control of his own fate, refusing to become a slave whose corpse would be picked apart by vultures in desolate lands.
Days passed.
During this time, the Gray Bear Mercenary Corps remained stationed at their camp. All the slaves had been sold off, and everyone except John received a substantial payout. With money in hand, the mercenaries indulged themselves in nearby towns, spending lavishly at taverns and showering coins on street prostitutes.
This turn of events left John with more free time than before. Aside from occasionally cooking for the mercenaries stationed at the camp, most of his hours were devoted to practicing the Universal Qi Training Method.
Life was bustling for everyone else, but it also meant an increase in rats around the camp. Much of their food was pilfered by these pests, which frustrated John as a chef but left him feeling helpless.

One afternoon, after completing a set of seven movements and wiping away the sweat that dripped from him, John savored a bowl of broth he had prepared for himself. Just as he was about to relax, he heard someone calling his name.
"John? Where are you?"
Reluctantly stepping out from his corner, he wondered what task awaited him now.
"Lai Gen Ge? What’s going on?"
"I can see you now," came the reply. Relieved to find someone looking for him, John pulled up a chair beside Lai Gen and sat down.
"Look at what good things I've brought you."
Following the other person's gaze, I spotted a newly appeared sack in the corner. I walked over and picked up the small rope that had been cut.
"What a great day this is, so many good things! Are you planning to marry?"
Lai Gen laughed and scolded, "Alright, you little John, you've got some guts to joke with your Lai Gen Ge."
"Isn't it because I know my Lai Gen Ge has a generous heart and won't hold it against me?" I said with a grin as I handed Lai Gen a cup of barley wine.
He took the cup without hesitation and got straight to the point. "Our boss wants to invite the town's Lord Norton’s guard captain, Sir James, for dinner. Do you know what a knight is?"
John instinctively played dumb. "Isn't it just soldiers who ride horses?"
Lai Gen seemed to find a sense of superiority from John's response and spoke slowly, "What do you mean, soldiers who ride horses? That's two different things! Knights are transcendent beings, do you understand what transcendent means?"
