As the saying goes, minor matters are discussed extensively while major issues are brushed aside. It is unrealistic to expect a hundred nobles to reach a consensus in a short time, much like the kingdom's council, where even trivial matters can spark disputes lasting half a month, ultimately leading to nothing.
It was Earl Bolt, responsible for guarding Iron Will Fortress, who took the lead in discussions with various Noble Youths. For three whole days, they deliberated.
Finally, they managed to come up with a rough solution. John was unaware of the specifics but knew that the nobles coming to their aid had been organized into four legions, each consisting of five thousand men. Currently, John served as the head of the cooking brigade for the Third Legion.
John had been promoted; he now commanded fifty Militia members. As he looked at the increasingly large kitchen, he couldn't help but feel that he was thriving in his role as a cook. If only he had known earlier, he might have headed east.
"John? Captain John?"
Ah, someone has arrived. Are they here to add something to the menu? John instinctively responded to the source of the inquiry.
Quartermaster Maide strode in with two armored soldiers carrying bags, confidently making his way through the busy cooking team until he stood firmly before John.
How could I have been so foolish? Isn’t that Lord Maide?
John Ke dared not offend him; this Quartermaster was associated with Monte Cristo's Baron, and Baron Art was the commander of the Third Legion.
"Johnny, brew some tea. Joseph, bring over a plate of the sautéed liver I just made for our lord to taste."
Upon hearing that John himself had cooked, Maide graciously accepted a fork and took a seat.
"No need for tea; I'll have this instead. John, why don’t you join me?"
The other man pulled out a small flask from his pocket. As he uncorked it, a rich aroma of wine wafted into John's nostrils.
John instinctively inhaled deeply—what fine wine! "Quick, Johnny! Get a cup! Lord Maide, I won’t hold back."
As they enjoyed the liver and sipped on wine, their relationship grew closer amidst the clinking of cups and laughter.
Curious, one of John's subordinates asked, "What brings you here today, Brother Maide?"
"Haha! I got so caught up in eating that I almost forgot my business," Maide exclaimed as he waved over the soldiers who had accompanied him and began emptying the contents of the bags.
"This is a reward from above: Silver Coins, Leather Armor, and Longswords—these are compensation for your Militia."
These nobles understood the importance of rewarding their troops after battle. John looked at what lay on the ground; while it seemed like a lot, its value paled in comparison to what he had claimed from slain Orcs in that small bag.
"Don't worry about it; those are for those Big Head Soldiers. This is what’s meant for you."
"Huh?" John looked at the money pouch being handed over with one hand and instinctively accepted it.
"You’re now also an officer as the head of the legion’s cooking brigade; as your brother, I can’t forget you."
Weighing the pouch in his hands, John hurriedly expressed his gratitude.
"Ha ha, thank you, my friend. I don't have much to say; just let me know what you want to eat, and I'll make it for you whenever you like."
As an adult, everything has its purpose. Satisfied with the response, Maide decided not to linger any longer. "Alright, I'll take my leave now. The legion has just been formed, and I have a lot to take care of."
"Take care, my friend!"
Once the outsiders left, the kitchen became John's little sanctuary. He called out to others to take their portions while he settled into a lounge chair, gazing at his bounty.
