"Master, the torch."
Taking the torch from Kuiradi's hand, John finally saw the entirety of the cave illuminated by its flickering light. The cave, spanning over a hundred square feet, housed a table covered in cobwebs, surrounded by various broken crystal vials scattered across the floor.
Next to the table stood a broken bookshelf, with only a few books remaining on it. The ground was littered with some paper remnants that had turned to pulp.
In the center of the cave lay a pile of weathered bones, some of which still wore tattered clothing. From their outlines, they appeared to be robes, though they were too decayed to discern clearly.
He ordered two soldiers to step forward and clear away the dry bones. Once they confirmed there was nothing amiss, John mustered his courage and approached the remains.
Using his sword, he began to sift through the bones, searching for any treasure that might have survived the ravages of time. Perhaps Lady Luck had finally decided to grace him with her presence.
To his fortune, he discovered a ring on a fragment of a hand bone. With a firm tug, he pulled it free and held it up to examine it closely. The golden ring was crafted in an ancient style, and inside it bore an inscription.
Clearing his throat, John inadvertently added a dramatic flair to his actions as he silently recited the inscription of the Supreme Ring: "Nature and Fate, Lawful and Balance."
It seemed that this belonged to someone aligned with the Lawful Good faction.
Stepping over the scattered bones, John made his way directly to the bookshelf, ignoring the dilapidated vials and jars around him.
The old bookshelf was thick with cobwebs, and most of the scattered books were beyond salvageable. After considerable effort, he managed to find two that were still legible; the rest had either shattered or corroded beyond recognition.
He opened one of them and realized it appeared to be a diary belonging to its previous owner.
January 7th - Clear Skies
Accompanied by my crew, we arrived at this island. It is perfect for my experiments; abundant plant life—hahaha! I can find all my potion ingredients here.
I promised my crew that once I successfully concoct my potions, I would pay them off so they could leave this Pirate Crew.
March 3rd - Heavy Rain
These scoundrels dared to steal my treasure! I will turn them all into skeletons—kekekeke! They shall forever accompany me, my dear crew. As for the treasure, I will toss it into the sea to join you; after all, I have no need for such things.
March 11th - Overcast
Damn that Little Mustache! As my apprentice, he dared to steal my formula! But it matters not; he cannot escape this island. Without a ship, where can a landlubber like him go?
The treasure from Binhai Town was the very diary left behind by its owner, while the chest obtained by tearing through the spider silk cocoon must have belonged to the fleeing assistant, Little Mustache.
After a thorough reading, John finally had an epiphany and understood the hidden truth behind this series of events. The owner of the diary was once a renowned Pirate Captain, and he was also a Bloodline Knight of Transcendent rank.
According to the entries in the diary, the Pirate Captain stumbled upon a mysterious cave during childhood while working on a farm. There, he fortuitously discovered a vial of magical potion and an invaluable formula for becoming a Bloodline Knight.
With this hard-won formula, the captain quickly assembled a fearsome and infamous crew known as the Wolf Howl Pirates. They roamed the seas, committing arson, murder, and plunder, becoming a nightmare for countless merchant ships and coastal towns.
