John simply chuckled, staring intently at Redman.
Feeling a bit uneasy under John’s gaze, Redman quickly turned his head to check himself, ensuring there was nothing strange about him before continuing to speak.
“What are you grinning about?”
“Brother, I think I should admit that I really can do it. If I can, wow.”
John looked at Redman with a mischievous glint in his eyes, his handsome face taking on a slightly lewd expression.
“You don’t actually believe me, do you?” Redman quickly corrected himself, recalling what he had just said. “I was just joking; you can’t take it seriously!”
“Don’t worry, you’re my big brother. How could I really let you do what you mentioned?” John assured him with a sense of propriety.
“That’s good to hear.” Redman finally felt relieved. Thankfully, there were no other people around, allowing him to relax and continue discussing serious matters with John.
“John, your potions have come at just the right time, especially with your identity as an Alchemist. It’s truly perfect. The banquet I’m hosting this time is to gather the local minor nobles and prevent them from becoming cannon fodder in the war two months from now.”
“With you here and these potions, I don’t see how those two fat pigs can compete with me for the position of leader.”
The two men had relied on their deep-rooted connections and relationships with various knights to suppress Redman. If it weren’t for their fear of the family backing him, Heide and Baron Leon might have organized a banquet themselves.
Now it was different; healing potions were like miraculous elixirs on the battlefield. Who wouldn’t want to curry favor with Redman? Getting this right could mean saving a life.
The White Family also had such potions, but they were all purchased from the Magic Tower at a high price and in limited quantities—there was no way they could match John’s supply.
“Oh, as long as I can help my brother, that’s enough for me.” At this moment, John needed to firmly align himself; he had his own support here and shouldn’t underestimate Redman’s current situation—after all, he had the White Family backing him.
“Are all the knights here like me? Are they all Actual Knights?”
“Of course not! Did you see? These knights are divided into three groups. The largest group has seventeen members; the second group has only eight, while only that small handful are Actual Knights.”
John followed Redman’s indication and saw that it was indeed divided into three groups as he described.
The largest group had a full seventeen members, while the second group had significantly fewer at eight. As for the Actual Knights, there were only four of them.
With this comparison in mind, John understood even more the value of being an Actual Knight. However, this was normal; no lord would distribute their territory without reason—every piece of land given away was like cutting off their own flesh.
“So how should I help persuade them for you?”
Your identity as an Alchemist is the best help you can offer. Just casually mentioning it later will suffice.
Redman has no intention of rushing to form alliances; sometimes, when the benefits are sufficient, all you need to do is stand still and let others come to you.
After parting ways with Redman, John sat alone at a table, beckoning a servant.
"Bring me a bottle of wheat beer."
As soon as the drink was poured, knights began to gather around him.
"Hello, John Stephen Knight. I am an Actual Knight."
One by one, they introduced themselves. After Knight A, B, and D took their turns, they started trying to build a rapport with John.
"Dear Knight John, you are different from those fellows. We are all Actual Knights—true nobles—unlike those who bear the title of knight without the true status."
John merely smiled; he had no intention of confining himself to such a small circle. When it came to the battlefield, he felt that those merchant knights were stronger after all—numbers mattered.
Noticing John's indifference, several Actual Knights hurried to defend their position.
"Don't underestimate those fellows just because they are knights. Some of them are Half-Step Transcendents who have yet to officially become Transcendents. Without resources, it's not easy for them to improve their strength."
