Perhaps it was precisely because of this seemingly weak formation that the bandits mistakenly believed they could easily overwhelm and plunder them with their numerical advantage. Thus, these audacious bandits had set their sights on him three times in a row.
Hearing the commotion outside, John slowly dismounted from the carriage. He appeared calm and composed as he reached out to accept the weapon respectfully offered by a nearby guard. With steady eyes, he gazed at the group of bandits striding toward him.
As he recognized their figures, John couldn't help but be slightly taken aback, a hint of surprise curling at the corners of his mouth: Oh, this time it’s a bit different; it’s a group of Wandering Knights forming the Wolf Howl Pirates.
In truth, there was no need to be overly astonished. In this world, many desperate Noble Youths often chose to leave their homes to venture into the world. However, wandering alone was perilously dangerous, so gradually, these individuals began to band together.
Moreover, due to their noble status and the need to maintain a semblance of aristocratic dignity, they had to find ways to survive. After some contemplation, it seemed that robbing passing merchant caravans was the only viable option left.
Thus, one by one, those who once hailed from prestigious backgrounds coalesced into the fearsome Wandering Knights and Wolf Howl Pirates.
The bandits before him exuded an unmistakable air of youth and inexperience. They appeared to be nothing more than fresh-faced novices who had just entered this line of work. Although they were generally older than John, their somewhat awkward demeanor and expressions made it easy to discern their lack of experience.
Upon closer inspection, it became evident that their attire was rather shabby and worn. The armor each wore showed signs of significant wear and tear, as if they had endured countless fierce battles.
However, it was worth noting that the weapons they wielded were relatively well-crafted, which made John ponder silently. After all, since he had taken up the blacksmith profession, his ability to discern various weapons had significantly improved!
While John observed quietly from the sidelines, the thirteen bandits swiftly encircled him and his companions. Mounted on tall horses, they swirled around John's caravan like a whirlwind. The pounding hooves kicked up clouds of dust, creating an atmosphere that felt tense and exhilarating.
After circling for a while, the bandits seemed to confirm that the emblem on John's caravan did not belong to any renowned Great Noble family. Consequently, one bandit who appeared to be the leader rode forward and halted at the front of the group.
In a voice laced with menace, the Bandit Leader shouted: "We don’t intend to take your precious lives; however, we do need you to obediently hand over all those useless items. This way, it can serve as a small toll for us brothers! I advise you to be sensible; don’t make us resort to force!" He smirked ominously as he spoke.
As he finished speaking, the bandit leader suddenly waved his hand. The ten knights behind him immediately drew various weapons from their waists without hesitation. In an instant, a glimmering array of blades pointed menacingly at John and his companions, and the atmosphere grew charged with tension.
