John looked at Kuiradi, his eyes filled with hope.
"Kuiradi, are you willing to dedicate yourself for everyone?"
Kuiradi had not given it much thought, but seeing the malice hidden in John's hopeful gaze made him swallow the words he had initially intended to agree with. He knew that the adults would not let him perish, but he also understood that they might not be able to accomplish anything. Thus, he decided to play it safe.
"Whatever you say, my lord."
It sounded like an agreement, yet it was not a full commitment. John noticed that Kuiradi was not taking the bait and did not press further. Instead, he shared his speculation: the treasure should be at the bottom of the lake. He had no idea how deep it was, and on top of that...
He paused for a moment, realizing that everyone was confused by what he was saying. "You all saw it too; I doubt anyone can go down there. So my idea is to destroy this lake and let the water flow into the desert."
"I agree," Kuiradi was the first to express his willingness. He certainly did not want to jump into the water; if he did, he knew his lord would have him as the first sacrifice.
The others nodded in agreement; this was not a life-or-death situation, and it wasn't worth jumping into filthy water.
"Alright, let's do it."
Without hesitation, John and all his loyal soldiers began digging a one-meter-wide trench three meters deep toward the desert. Once they broke through on the side closest to the lake, a massive amount of water would rush into the desert. It wouldn’t take long before the water seeped away, lowering the lake by three meters. Even if they didn’t uncover any treasure, they would only need to dig a little deeper.
True to the Transcendent realm, even without excavators, just relying on their sheer strength, they managed to dig this several dozen meters long trench in no time. Especially with John using the Universal Qi Training Method alongside his weapon; with just a bit of effort, they created a two-meter-long and three-meter-deep trench in no time. A few more strikes produced a large pit measuring two meters long, one meter wide, and three meters deep.
After some busy work, they finally completed the drainage ditch, ensuring it connected all the way to the desert. John walked along the trench for a while before approaching the lake's edge and forcefully slashing through the air with his hand. The Universal Qi Training Method created a gap in the earthen wall.
Water rushed out from the breach quickly; as more water flowed out, the opening widened until eventually, it collapsed the entire earthen wall of the trench.
"You two keep an eye on ensuring that water flows normally and check if anything comes out of the lake."
Assigning two people to stand guard, John—being a noble—naturally decided to lie down and rest. He took a single bed from one of his accompanying horses and laid down under the shade of a tree, enjoying the summer day.
If only there wasn’t that lingering stench in the oasis.
Unable to stay still, Kuiradi paced back and forth between their tent and the trench while occasionally reporting updates.
"My lord! My lord! There are so many fish in the trench!"
