Holy Dragon City was not originally known by this name, but ever since the New Lord took office, it has acquired this resounding title. For the original citizens of the city, there have been numerous earth-shattering changes. This New Lord is truly decisive and full of vigor; upon assuming his position, he wasted no time in initiating a series of actions.
First, he vigorously repaired the roads, claiming that the once spacious thoroughfare could no longer meet the demands. As a result, the houses lining both sides of the road were swiftly demolished. After this renovation, what had previously been a road that could only accommodate two horse-drawn carriages side by side was now able to easily fit more than twelve! This improvement did indeed enhance traffic conditions significantly, but it also left many residents without their homes.
In addition to road renovations, the New Lord also conducted a new survey and planning of the entire city area. The city was meticulously divided into sixteen distinct zones, each with a clearly defined purpose. Fortunately, although the old houses were torn down, the New Lord was somewhat benevolent and provided new homes as compensation for the displaced residents.
Just when everyone thought that would be the end of it, the New Lord issued a bizarre regulation prohibiting public urination and defecation. This truly left people in despair! Just think about it—humans have their urgent needs, yet they must now adhere to restrictions even when nature calls; isn’t that torture? Moreover, it is said that if one violates this regulation, the consequences are severe.
In the first three days, if caught relieving oneself in public, one would face hefty fines; if caught more than once, they would be subjected to forced labor—working hard without enough food to eat; and most terrifying of all, if caught more than ten times, one could face execution! Oh dear! To lose one’s life over such a trivial matter as using the restroom—what kind of justice is that? Some might even say that grass has already begun to grow on their graves.
Furthermore, there were all sorts of other troublesome matters best left unmentioned! In any case, life became increasingly difficult for people. Yet whenever thoughts turned to the well-trained Soldier Teams under the New Lord's command, any dissatisfaction had to be suppressed for now. After all, no one wanted to provoke this powerful New Lord.
At this moment, a guard stationed at the main gate was intently watching the comings and goings of carriages. He was a veteran from Salted Fish Territory and could be considered an old-timer in this land. Now reassigned to Holy Light City, his status had long since changed from that of an ordinary soldier. He now commanded ten soldiers beneath him and had become a bona fide Little Officer!
As the saying goes: when one person rises to prominence, their chickens and dogs also ascend. With his lordship Lord John’s territory rapidly expanding—now dozens of times larger than before—it was only natural that their original troop strength seemed inadequate. Thus, there was no choice but to recruit new soldiers in large numbers.
As a result, these veteran soldiers found their status rising steadily. Take him for example; his salary had multiplied several times over. From being an inconsequential Big Head Soldier, he had transformed into an official responsible for guarding the city.
Now let’s take a look at the endless stream of carriages passing by daily. Inside them sat either young masters from wealthy families or Noble Lords from Blink County. Especially after three young ladies were born into noble households, congratulations poured in like flies drawn to rotten meat—nobles came in droves one after another, making it hard for anyone to keep up!
However impressive they might be, upon seeing him as the City Defense Squad Captain, they all had to be polite and courteous; he held no resentment towards them. Deep down inside, he sincerely hoped that his lordship John would remain healthy and that he could continue working diligently until his last breath.
