On the vast wasteland, Yun Yi held a map and walked west along the path they had previously taken. The desolation was the dominant theme here; the once rushing river had vanished, leaving only cracked and parched earth behind. Along the way, there was hardly a trace of green; many plants had withered away or been uprooted by starving crowds seeking sustenance.
The groups of Famine victims moved with hollow eyes and weary steps, staggering forward like lifeless shells. Seeing these suffering people, Yun Yi could not remain indifferent. Whenever he encountered a group, he distributed small portions of Cooked Fish to alleviate their hunger and directed them eastward, where there was a place called Zhao Family Village that could provide them shelter and sustenance.
With Yun Yi's assistance, many Famine victims regained hope for survival. The Refugees, who were on the brink of despair, reignited their desire to live. Grateful for his help, they set off in the direction Yun Yi indicated towards Zhao Family Village.
Every little bit helped, he thought with a long sigh. In addition to guiding the lost Refugees, he placed an Endless Water Source Block by the banks of Hutuo River every so often as he walked. In the distance, on a mountainside, two brilliant lights flickered faintly. Checking his map, Yun Yi realized that this was where he had first arrived when he crossed over—a place illuminated by two beams from Nuclear Torches that he himself had established at his crossing point. This time, his destination in Taihang Mountain remained the same.
Rather than searching for coal seams and iron ore in unknown areas, it would be more beneficial to further explore places where resources were already known to exist. However, before that, Yun Yi planned to fell some trees near the foot of the mountain. There was no shortage of trees here; their numbers were immense, making it nearly impossible to glimpse their boundaries from afar.
Unfortunately, the trees here were not only withered but also stripped bare of their bark by the hungry Refugees of the past. Even if Yun Yi refrained from cutting them down, it was unlikely they would survive much longer.
Thus, he decided that these trees should be utilized as a means to increase his wood supply. He set aside his Crafting Table and took out a few pieces of wood he had on hand, transforming them into planks. He then dismantled some wooden sticks and combined them with Iron Ingots to craft over ten Iron Axes.
Most of the Iron Axes were stored in his backpack, while Yun Yi held two in his hands, gazing at the desolate trees before him with a gentle smile. He lifted an Iron Axe, ready to get to work.
Based on his experience, the sharpness of an Iron Axe in the game was extraordinary; an ordinary person could easily chop down trees as thick as a bowl's rim with it. However, when Yun Yi picked up the Iron Axe, its power seemed significantly diminished, even appearing unusually dull. After a few swings, he couldn't even leave a scratch on the tree's surface.
