In an abandoned warehouse, a young man emerged from a hole connected to a dilapidated sewage pipe.
Ah, the taste of life. Ye Wumeng stepped out and gazed at the sun hanging in the sky, feeling an involuntary sense of awe. If he weren't an atheist, he might have wanted to praise the sun. Where did that thought come from?
Enough of that, Ye Wumeng shook his head and looked around. This seemed to be an empty, deserted warehouse. Standing at the entrance were two guards in standard uniforms, each holding strange firearms, scrutinizing him intently.
Xu Duan said I could just walk out.
As he reached the door of the warehouse and felt the weight of their gazes, Ye Wumeng couldn't help but speak up. "Am I free to go?"
The guards remained silent, continuing to stare at him.
"Come on, don’t be silent now."
Ye Wumeng pouted and stepped out of the warehouse, his heart racing with excitement. What exactly was this Lanst Camp?
Wait.
One of the guards called out to him from behind.
Damn it, they were quiet just now and now they want to talk? What is this?
Ye Wumeng turned back expressionlessly and saw one of the guards approaching him quickly, holding a Blue Card.
Now I want to see what you didn’t give me before!
"Hey, long time no see," a familiar voice came from the Blue Card. A face that was slightly less handsome than Ye Wumeng's (at least in his opinion) was projected into the air. The once imposing Ye Wumeng instantly deflated.
It’s only been ten minutes; how can it be long time no see? I hope I never see you again in this lifetime!
He grumbled internally but managed to force a smile that looked more like a grimace. "Long time no see."
Staring at the face in the air, Ye Wumeng squeezed out a smile that was more painful than crying.
"Take this Blue Card; it has my contact information and the layout of Lanstad on it. Of course, if you have money, it’s best to buy a pair of Onk's Mechanical Gloves for convenience. That’s all; I’m hanging up now." Xu Duan finished speaking and ended the communication.
"Thank you." After thanking the guard, Ye Wumeng took the Blue Card and skillfully activated the map function.
Looking at the map in his hands, Ye Wumeng felt a sense of amusement, reminiscent of wandering through an amusement park, recalling the beautiful moments of his past life. However, the layout of Lanst Camp was quite peculiar.
On the map, Lanst Camp appeared as a massive square, with four corners connected by the midpoints of each side, representing five distinct areas. The top left corner was the Refugee Zone, the top right was the Commercial District, the bottom left was the Industrial Area, the bottom right was the Civilian Area, and in the center lay the Rich and Government District.
Ye Wumeng thought this arrangement was unreasonable but then remembered that this was a post-apocalyptic world, which made it somewhat understandable.
Suddenly, he heard a voice calling out to him. "Hey there, young man! Want a ride on my pump cart? I guarantee it's the most comfortable ride in this area!"
Turning his head at the sound, Ye Wumeng's eyebrow twitched. Wasn't that just a tricycle? Was it considered fraud to give such a misleading name? But now wasn’t the time to be picky. "How much for you to take me around the camp in this cart?" he asked directly.
The man paused for a moment before responding, "Oh, you must mean a Blue Voucher. Just so you know, I don’t go to the Refugee Zone. It’s about that distance to get to Blue Voucher."
The man looked a bit uneasy as he glanced at Ye Wumeng. Ye Wumeng raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why not go to the Refugee Zone?"
Swallowing hard, the man explained, "People generally avoid the Refugee Zone. The way they look at us makes it feel unsafe. Besides, many have been robbed just trying to get in there! Some even lost their lives! My whole family relies on me making money with this pump cart; I can’t afford any accidents. So if you really want to go there, I won’t take any profit from that voucher."
"Is that so?" Ye Wumeng nodded in understanding and then asked again if he knew Anlius.
"Of course! Mr. Anlius is our camp's only Alchemist. I heard his shop is located near the Refugee Zone in the Commercial District and that he successfully treated Hu Xu from the Ten Guardians for Corpse Rat Infection! Though I've heard he's not very easy to get along with," the man said enthusiastically.
"Well then, that makes things easier," Ye Wumeng replied as he pulled out a stack of Blue Vouchers he had taken from Lai Da Fu and casually selected a dozen or so. The sight startled the man.
"So much money!" he exclaimed. "This must be over a thousand! You want me to take you around this camp and drop you off at the Coordination Center by two o'clock? I'll wait for you at the entrance and then take you to Anlius's Potion Shop afterward—how does that sound?"
"Of course! Absolutely! That sounds great! Please, hop on!" The man quickly jumped off his cart and gestured for Ye Wumeng to get in, his attitude turning incredibly enthusiastic as he even changed how he addressed him.
After all, money talks!
"Hold on tight; we’re off!" The man was overjoyed, and Ye Wumeng felt a warmth in his heart as well. Of course, it would have been even better if it didn’t cost anything.
"Good? What’s good about it? Damn it, my heart is starting to hurt again! Ugh! Kid, throw me a deconstruction bomb! Cover me while I set up my needle!"
Several dozen kilometers outside the camp, Hu Xu, clad in full-body powered armor, trembled as he wielded a sword that glowed with a blue light, swinging it with all his might despite his weak voice. Before him, countless small Undead surged forward like a relentless tide.
Hearing this, one of his subordinates, who had been firing to clear the area behind him, rushed to the front. He pulled a round deconstruction grenade from his tactical vest and tore something off with his teeth before throwing it forcefully at his feet.
Poof!
A thick cloud of black smoke erupted from the grenade, quickly enveloping both him and Hu Xu. Hu Xu gritted his teeth and used his Mechanical Glove to create a small opening at the heart of his armor.
Then, his subordinate skillfully produced a small syringe from his gear and injected it into himself.
With a sigh of relief, Hu Xu felt the painful expression on his face fade as he watched the Undead disintegrate into ash upon contact with the smoke.
"Hu Laoda, are you still unwell?" his subordinate asked with concern.
"Ah, I've been sick for a while. Ever since that old coot Anlius treated me, this illness has been recurring. I have to deal with it every now and then; it's such a hassle! But at least that old guy saved my life, so I won't hold it against him," Hu Xu replied, shaking his head. He instinctively reached for his stubble but remembered he was in full powered armor.
"But I recall the report from the Reformist; Corpse Poison shouldn't have these side effects," he muttered quietly.
His subordinate was gently tapped on the head by Hu Xu, who then stood up, twisted his neck, and raised his weapon with renewed vigor.
"Forget about it! No time to dawdle; let's get to work!"
"Yes!"
As the smoke cleared, Hu Xu and his subordinate plunged back into battle against the Undead. Meanwhile, Ye Wumeng glanced at the time on the Blue Card as they arrived at the Coordination Center's entrance.
Current time: 1:58 PM.
