The third-generation Anke Multi-Functional Mechanical Glove could only be equipped by team leaders of the ordinary Bonfire Group, but the Third Level Investigator rank was equivalent to that of a regular team leader. Therefore, Ye Wumeng was fully qualified to use it.
Thinking back to when he saw Hu Xu wearing the third-generation gloves, his heart raced with excitement, much like the thrill of being the first to get a new smartphone upon its release. Not only were the features more powerful, but they also looked cooler than the second generation!
However, the price was a bit daunting—ten thousand points. Yet, Ye Wumeng didn’t mind too much; for him, exchange points held little significance, and earning them was quite simple.
"Is it possible to have it delivered before tonight?" Ye Wumeng asked.
The Receiver hesitated slightly at his request. Before he could respond, he pulled up a message from Southern Industries regarding a shipment of Cigarettes.
"Of course! I’ll send you a message in advance when it's ready," he assured, his earlier uncertainty vanishing and replaced by determination.
"Who says Southern Industries isn't trustworthy? Step forward!"
"Alright, since everything is settled, I won’t keep you any longer," Ye Wumeng said as he prepared to leave.
"Goodbye, Investigator Ye Wumeng."
"Goodbye." After their farewells, Ye Wumeng watched as the Receiver climbed onto the delivery truck and drove away with a rumble.
Meanwhile, Store Manager Lu Hao looked at Ye Wumeng and cautiously pointed towards the first and second floors piled with bodies. "The collection work shouldn't stop; I'll handle these."
Lu Hao nodded and returned to his familiar post. "Let’s get to work!"
This job was exhausting. Anlius Apothecary took advantage of Ye Wumeng's departure to conduct a monthly deep clean. As night fell, he sat at his desk sipping Wheat Juice and closed his eyes for a moment of rest.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Knock knock knock.
Could it be that kid again? But would he really knock so politely given his personality?
Anlius, filled with confusion, placed the Wheat Juice on the table and walked to the door, pulling it open. Upon seeing the visitors outside, a look of surprise and realization crossed his face.
Standing outside were Hu Xu and his younger brother.
At that moment, Hu Xu was covered in wounds; many cuts were so severe that bits of white bone could be seen peeking through, accompanied by torn and scabbed flesh. His chest heaved as he struggled to breathe, and his clothes were in tatters, suggesting he had just completed a long and arduous journey without stopping.
"Oh dear, Hu Xu, what happened to you?" Anlius exclaimed in shock, quickly stepping aside to let them in.
Hu Xu didn’t respond but instead staggered inside and collapsed onto a chair, gasping for air. His younger brother looked anxious as he spoke urgently.
"Anlius the Divine Healer, please save Hu Laoda!"
Anlius nodded and retrieved a bottle of red potion from a nearby shelf, handing it to Hu Xu. Without hesitation, Hu Xu gulped it down.
This was a basic healing potion of low grade; for someone like Hu Xu, an Evolver, its effects were quite limited. Nevertheless, it provided some relief from his current condition.
"My body is having issues; I need you to take a look," Hu Xu managed to say after catching his breath, turning to Anlius directly.
Hearing this, Anlius couldn't help but smile subtly. "What kind of issues are we talking about?"
"I have frequent sharp pains in my heart and feel my strength draining away. It’s like I’m powerless," Hu Xu replied, rubbing his forehead and closing his eyes, exhaustion etched on his face.
"Oh, I see. Fortunately, I have just the thing." Anlius smiled broadly and pulled out a vial of deep blue potion that emitted a faint glow, pushing it toward Hu Xu.
"What is this?" Hu Xu asked warily as he eyed the potion on the table, an ominous feeling creeping into his mind.
"You’re not well right now, right? This is the potion that can cure your ailment," Anlius insisted as he nudged the vial closer with an exaggerated grin that resembled a blooming chrysanthemum.
Feeling the weight of his own condition while staring at the potion on the table, Hu Xu gritted his teeth and reached for it with the intention of opening it right there and then. But Anlius was quicker; he grabbed Hu Xu's hand firmly with a concerned expression.
"Wait! Don’t drink it just yet. If you take this potion now, your body will enter a standby state for recovery—essentially putting you into a deep sleep for an extended period. I wouldn’t want you to do that here; after all, this is the Refugee Zone and it's not exactly safe."
His face radiated care and calmness as if he were looking after a younger family member, which made Hu Xu feel reassured in that moment.
"Alright then, if that's the case, I'll take my leave," Hu Xu said reluctantly.
"Goodbye, Anlius the Divine Healer."
"Goodbye."
Anlius escorted them to the door and watched as Hu Xu's brother helped him away. Unable to contain himself any longer, he broke into a wide grin that stretched from ear to ear.
The plan was just one step away from completion! Hahaha!
He laughed maniacally.
Well, as long as you’re happy. At the You Cai Department Store, it was already late at night, and the delivery person had brought him the body along with his Ankh III Smart Mechanical Glove.
There were so many corpses that he had to collect all the Common Undead first. Unfortunately, none of them dropped any potions, which left Ye Wumeng feeling a bit disappointed. Now, only three First Class Species corpses remained on the second floor, and he planned to treat them as the final blind box to draw from. After all, it was his first time handling such high-level corpses; he wanted to maintain a sense of ritual.
Just earlier, he had fulfilled his promise to Lu Hao from noon by gifting him the Anke II Mechanical Glove that had accompanied him for over ten days. Watching Lu Hao excitedly try out its functions, he shook his head.
Hmph, kids are just so unstable.
With that thought in mind, he donned the Ankh III Mechanical Glove and began testing its features. It was truly delightful. After playing around with it for a while, he finally understood its hidden functionalities.
Alright, it’s getting late; I should rest early since I need to collect more bodies in the morning. Ye Wumeng said with a smile to the still-excited Lu Hao. Hearing Ye Wumeng's words, Lu Hao reluctantly took off the Mechanical Glove and went to lie down on his makeshift bed on the first floor.
Now for the main event! Ye Wumeng rubbed his hands together and quickly walked up to the second floor. He gazed at the three corpses that nearly filled the room, clicking his tongue in amazement.
Tsk tsk, if it weren’t for all the iron walls outside having opening functions, I wouldn’t know how to quietly dispose of these three big guys.
Enough thinking; let’s get started! He hurriedly placed his hand on one of the corpses and silently chanted in his heart.
Collect!
