"Wait, just because it's difficult doesn't mean there's no hope," Ye Wumeng interjected, seemingly catching Long Tao off guard.
"Yeah, I had already countered those Reformists when they said that," Long Tao replied, a glimmer of despair flickering in his eyes as he sighed and continued. "Do you know about the Telomere Repair Agent? The only thing that can save Hu Laoda is another rare potion like this one, and I've never even heard its name before."
"The Telomere Repair Agent is a truly rare potion that can extend a person's lifespan!" Long Tao lamented. "Just how precious must such a potion be?"
"What about that potion?" Ye Wumeng asked. "It sounds like the Physical Limit Restoration Potion. Just hearing the name tells me it must be incredibly valuable."
Long Tao's face showed no sign of joy; even if he knew the name of the potion, he had no way to obtain it.
"Wait, the Physical Limit Restoration Potion? I can brew it!" Ye Wumeng exclaimed. "I have the recipe from the Alchemist's Path reward!"
He felt a surge of determination. He had the ability to save Hu Laoda! As someone who had introduced him to Lanstad, he owed it to him.
"Don't give up! I have a way to get that potion, but it will take some time. Make sure Hu Xu doesn't lose hope—just hold on!" With that, Ye Wumeng hurriedly left.
Long Tao stood there, staring blankly at his retreating figure. Once he regained his senses, he was filled with joy and rushed inside to share the news with Hu Xu.
He had most of the materials needed for the potion, but he had already used up all his One-Class Corpse Crystals. He needed to find some more before he could brew the potion.
Getting his hands on Shijing would be impossible in the city; he had already traded away everything he could. He would have to venture outside the city to find it.
"Alright, time to meet my new teammates," Ye Wumeng decided. He hailed a pump car and made his way to Lanst Camp headquarters. Navigating through familiar paths, he arrived at the door of the Legion Commander’s office and knocked.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Come in," a familiar voice called from within.
Ye Wumeng turned the doorknob and stepped inside. The simple yet familiar environment greeted him as Ideal sat behind the desk, smiling at him. Beside Ideal stood an unfamiliar figure.
Two men and two women continuously sized him up.
"Heh, you're just in time. Let me introduce you to your new teammates. Why don't you all introduce yourselves?"
Upon hearing this, the noticeably taller girl among the women, with a sunny smile on her face, turned to Ye Wumeng and said, "I'll go first! I'm Li Tao, but everyone calls me Peach. I'm a heavy swordsman. This cute little girl next to me is Wen Xi, our team's mechanic. Just so you know, little Wen Xi has a conservative certification as a mechanic!"
The shorter girl beside her, wearing thick glasses and looking down shyly, spoke up softly. "Hello, I'm Lei Huo. I provide fire support for this team."
On the other side, a burly boy with a small braid at the back of his head crossed his arms and nodded at Ye Wumeng. "Hmph, for someone like him, even though the Vice Commander is an Alchemist, not just anyone can join our Elite Squad."
Finally, the last man spoke up. However, instead of introducing himself or welcoming Ye Wumeng to the team, he directly questioned Ye Wumeng's abilities. "I'm Fei Wen, the captain of this team. Listen up, kid; you'd better quit while you can. The danger level of the Elite Squad is beyond what you can imagine. We don't need any dead weight."
He looked down at Ye Wumeng with an arrogant expression that clearly conveyed his disdain. The others looked at Fei Wen in shock and then at Ye Wumeng, opening their mouths but unsure of what to say.
Seeing this, Ye Wumeng shrugged at Li Xiang, indicating that he wasn't going to take the blame for this situation.
"Fei Wen, this is an order. From now on, Ye Wumeng will participate in your missions; otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude," Li Xiang said seriously, his casual demeanor replaced by a stern look that held a hint of threat.
"Understood."
Seeing that Li Xiang was genuinely angry, Fei Wen could only temper his bad attitude and nodded in agreement.
"That's more like it! Now you go explain the details of this mission to our new teammate," Li Xiang waved his hand at Fei Wen, signaling him to leave.
As Fei Wen walked away, everyone present saluted Li Xiang with a Bonfire Group salute. Ye Wumeng mimicked them by placing his right palm against his chest.
As Fei Wen left the area, he brushed past Ye Wumeng. Peach quickly stepped forward and said to Ye Wumeng, "I'm sorry about him; he's just like that. But aside from him, everyone else here is really nice. Come on, follow us!"
Lei Huo and Wen Xi also approached Ye Wumeng to show their goodwill, which made Ye Wumeng feel more positively about the team.
"Aside from that somewhat strange captain, everyone else seems really friendly."
In front of them, Fei Wen felt the lively atmosphere behind him and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes.
"Can we just let him join this team?"
In the Legion Commander Office, Xu Duan rested his head on his hand, casually observing the ideal office setup.
He chuckled, realizing that this was not only a test for Ye Wumeng but also for this struggling team. The goal was to identify the problems within the team and subsequently eliminate them, to heal it.
Without lifting his head, the ideal leader swiftly wrote notes with a pen, a strong sense of anticipation gleaming in his eyes. What kind of chemical reaction could you bring to this team?
"This is what we need to do. Do you understand? If you have any questions, feel free to ask me," Taozi said, spreading her hands and looking at Ye Wumeng, waiting for his response.
"None," Ye Wumeng shook his head. In fact, Taozi had explained everything quite thoroughly.
It seemed that in the southern city area, an unknown source had mixed Undead into a sewage system, and there were quite a few of them. The Bonfire Group was tasked with clearing them out.
This time, the Bonfire Group had dispatched ten regular squads along with their Elite Squad. Their mission was to handle those threats that ordinary squads could not deal with and provide support for their operations.
"Don't worry; I've scanned with the Corpse Energy radar. There aren't any strong Undead," Wen Xi spoke up at the right moment, her voice soft as if she were shy, but Ye Wumeng's keen senses picked it up clearly.
"Thank you," Ye Wumeng replied to her.
"You’re an Alchemist; just stand in the middle. Leave everything behind you to me," Lei Huo said with a slight smile. He held a long weapon resembling a sniper rifle and gave Ye Wumeng a reassuring look.
With such reliable teammates, Ye Wumeng thought happily that he might not even need to take action himself. But then a voice shattered his joyful mood.
"Hmph, dead weight! You must listen to my commands later; otherwise, even if Vice Commander scolds me, I’ll kick you out of the team!" Fei Wen glared at Ye Wumeng with disdain before turning around and preparing to enter the sewage pipe.
Indeed, this guy's mind didn’t seem quite right.
