Hong Taiji's words struck like thunder, leaving the Princess of Yue Ming County and Lin Ning in utter shock as they hid atop the grand hall. At that moment, all doubt vanished from Yuan Yueming's heart; she realized that Min was the murderer of her parents. She cursed herself for having recognized a thief as her father for over nineteen years. Her eyes widened in rage, teeth clenched tightly, her left thumb pressing hard against her index finger, drawing blood from the pale skin. She longed to rush into the hall and tear Min apart.
Seeing this, Lin Ning quickly grasped Yuan Yueming's left hand and shot her a concerned glance. Lin Ning's care helped to slightly temper Yuan Yueming's fury. Inside the hall, Dai Shan's voice rang out, "We are all brothers; let us not ruin our harmony over a trivial matter!" But Min bellowed back with all his might, "Indeed, it was I who ordered Yang Yan to kill Yuan Qingtian and his wife and abduct their daughter. So what of it?"
Hong Taiji coldly replied, "I do not oppose your actions. A man must be ruthless; moreover, I have taken a liking to Yue Ming. She is intelligent and graceful, fitting for a noble lady. Since she is of similar age to Hao Ge, I intend to betroth her to him. After my time, I plan to pass the throne to Hao Ge. If Yue Ming can be a virtuous wife to him, together they can secure our great Jin dynasty for eternity. At that time, we will be even closer kin. And you, second Brother, as a royal relative, will enjoy endless wealth and honor."
Hong Taiji hoped these words would compel Min to obey him out of gratitude for imperial favor. However, Min was not swayed by such flattery; he retorted sharply, "Do not try to deceive me with your sweet words. I am no child of three years! The future is uncertain; who knows what changes may come? If you truly mean well, then make me a Prince of Iron Cap and let us rule the great Jin together on equal footing!"
Min's words infuriated Hong Taiji completely. His face turned pale as if covered in frost; he shouted furiously, "It seems you prefer punishment over kindness! Do not blame me for being unmerciful!" He commanded his guards, "Seize Min!"
Before Min could react, guards had already drawn their swords against his neck. In a fit of rage, he shouted hoarsely, "Hong Taiji! You despicable scoundrel! Is this how you treat a brother who helped you ascend to the throne and fought alongside you? You are less than human!"
Min's words enraged Hong Taiji further; he gritted his teeth and ordered the guards, "Take him to the dungeon! No one is allowed to see Min without my command!" As Min continued to curse and shout, the guards dragged him out of the hall.
Above in the hall, Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming gasped in horror at the scene before them. They witnessed the treachery of Hong Taiji and the brutality of Min—an alarming display of how those in power within Later Jin exploited and schemed against one another!
Yuan Yueming whispered to Lin Ning, "I am the Princess of the County..." Habitually referring to herself as such suddenly felt repulsive; she paused before correcting herself firmly: "I, Yuan Yueming, will seek revenge on Yang Yan and Min! I will kill them both to avenge my deceased parents!"
Lin Ning nodded in agreement and quietly asked her, "What are your plans now?"
Feeling warmth at being called 'sister' by Lin Ning, Yuan Yueming replied softly, "I need to find Wen Hui and confront her about why she chose to ally with Later Jin—forcing me to recognize a thief as my father while bearing this disgraceful name throughout history!"
Lin Ning knew Wen Hui was Cong Jiang's wife and was equally curious about why she would abandon her husband and daughter for an enemy's power. Was it for wealth or was there something deeper at play? With this thought in mind, Lin Ning said to Yuan Yueming, "Sister, I will go with you to see Wen Hui!"
