After Li Hao finished speaking, everyone understood clearly. Luo Qianwei and Lin Xiao both expressed their comprehension and left the office.
Once they exited the county chief's office, Luo Qianwei felt a sense of relief wash over her. She led Lin Xiao to find Zhou Bin, instructing him to return to his previous duties while Lin Xiao went back.
Zhou Bin was in the middle of verifying the tasks assigned by the county chief that morning when he heard he was no longer needed. He jumped up, dropped the phone, and exclaimed, "Thank heaven, thank earth, thank you, Lin Xiao! You saved me!"
Zhou Bin quickly briefed Lin Xiao on his ongoing tasks, packed his belongings, and returned to his original seat without wanting to linger for even a minute longer.
Lin Xiao had already distributed the documents last week and had nothing particularly urgent to relay. She copied her materials from her current desk and returned them to her original office computer.
Meng Kai felt somewhat resistant upon Lin Xiao's sudden return. He had just transferred from another unit and thought he might be able to stay after a month. He believed he had a better chance of remaining than Zhou Bin, but now both of them were out. Despite his reluctance, there was nothing he could do; he simply wasn't as capable.
However, Lin Xiao did not feel as happy as she had expected upon returning. She knew her return was only possible because both Zhou Bin and Meng Kai were currently less competent than she was. Given time, there would inevitably be someone more capable than herself.
What she could do now was to serve her leaders with greater detail and specificity to ensure her position remained stable. Lin Xiao reviewed everything that had happened in the past month under Li County Chief's supervision and confirmed that she had completed enough tasks.
She reorganized the pending tasks into actionable items and prioritized those that needed immediate attention down to specific days. After reviewing the county chief's instructions regarding task confirmations, she looked over Zhou Bin's list of key projects and found it too vague.
She reached out to the project office again, requesting an improved project list that clearly indicated which projects could apply for funding from higher authorities, which units were responsible for each project, the type of funding required, estimated amounts that could be applied for, when to apply, and expected timelines for fund disbursement.
This detailed table would be used by Lin Xiao to prepare a report for Li County Chief. Zhou Bin could make slight adjustments to the table as needed. If the county chief inquired further, she would elaborate on these details; leaders review many documents daily, and if tables are too complex or lack clarity, it would take them twice as long to understand.
The financial bureau had disbursed housing subsidies to Gengxu Town last Thursday. The funds were allocated quarterly. Lin Xiao contacted Li Hongxin, the town mayor of Gengxu Town, to inquire whether the housing subsidies had been distributed.
"Lin Ren," he replied, "the funds just arrived at Gengwei Town last Thursday. We will distribute them to the villagers this Friday." Li Hongxin was surprised by Lin Xiao's call; he hadn't realized she was still serving the county chief.
Li Hongxin had previously been the mayor of Mao Wei Township but was transferred to Gengxu Town after a relocation incident half a month ago. Although it was a lateral move within the same rank, transitioning from township mayor to town mayor carried some implications of promotion.
The former town mayor of Gengxu Town, Bai Guangqiang, had been moved to serve as deputy secretary of the Disciplinary Committee—a position no one anticipated. Although deputy secretary is considered a position at the same level as town mayor in terms of rank, the nature of their roles differed significantly; this also represented a form of promotion.
Previously serving as deputy secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, Zhao Honghua had been demoted back to being a township mayor in Mao Wei Township.
This marked the fifth month since the new county chief took office—the first personnel changes occurred much later than everyone expected and involved only a small scope of adjustments.
These three individuals share a common trait: they all made mistakes. However, the outcomes of their errors were vastly different. Li Hongxin and Bai Guangqiang followed orders but failed to execute them properly, leaving them waiting for a chance to redeem themselves. In contrast, Zhao Honghua did not heed instructions, resulting in a demotion.
