Li Hao looked at Lin Xiao's aggrieved expression and felt as if he had bullied her.
He lost his usual calmness in anger, quickly stripped off his clothes, and crawled into the bed. He then took off Lin Xiao's clothes and held her in his arms, saying, "See? I didn’t push you away."
Lin Xiao didn’t expect him to be so childish. After struggling a bit, she found herself lying in his embrace. At this point, she decided to be open about her feelings. "I don’t like it when you come back, acting like it’s only to have sex with me. I’m not a blow-up doll."
Hearing this made Li Hao even more frustrated. He was a normal man, after all; they only saw each other once every week or two. Shouldn’t he seize the opportunity when they were together? Besides, didn’t she always seem to enjoy it?
"What else? Tell me, and I’ll change," Li Hao said, noticing her pitiful look and feeling that perhaps he really hadn’t done well.
"I don’t like it when you smoke. Your mouth smells bad every time you kiss me."
"And I don’t like it when you drink too much. You always end up hurting me."
Li Hao felt a bit displeased but also enjoyed her honesty. Did he really have no good qualities? "Then tell me what you do like, and I’ll focus on those."
"Aside from these things, I like everything else about you," Lin Xiao said, realizing that she should stop while she was ahead. After all, apart from those flaws, he truly didn’t have many shortcomings.
"Lin Xiao, why don’t you move in with me? I want to be able to see you whenever I come back," Li Hao said sincerely as he held her close. "If we break up, you can stay here; I’ll leave."
Lin Xiao thought to herself that if they really did break up, she wouldn’t have the courage to stay behind. That apartment was worth millions now.
Li Hao felt that he would never break up with Lin Xiao in this lifetime.
That night, Lin Xiao and Kong Youyou had to work overtime.
Kong Youyou’s boyfriend invited her out for dinner, but Lin Xiao said she didn’t want to be a third wheel.
Unable to resist Kong Youyou’s persistent persuasion, Lin Xiao went with her to a seafood restaurant near their workplace. Upon arrival, she realized that Kong Youyou’s boyfriend had brought along another man.
"Lin Xiao, this is my boyfriend’s colleague Wang Lei. They finished their case together and came over. You don’t mind, do you?" Kong Youyou said as she pulled out a chair for Lin Xiao across from Wang Lei.
"Of course not; we’re all friends," Lin Xiao replied without voicing her irritation at Kong Youyou’s unilateral decision.
Wang Lei took an immediate liking to Lin Xiao at first sight—her tall stature, striking looks, and unique aura captivated him. He enthusiastically helped her unwrap disposable utensils and kept asking what she liked to eat while looking at the menu.
Lin Xiao didn’t want to embarrass Kong Youyou publicly, so she accepted Wang Lei’s attentiveness.
Wang Lei was humorous; if he weren’t a blind date candidate, Lin Xiao would have found him quite interesting. He and Kong Youyou’s boyfriend played off each other perfectly, turning mundane stories into something akin to a comedic skit.
Now Lin Xiao understood why Kong Youyou often brought up her boyfriend—he was indeed quite entertaining.
Li Hao gathered with a few alumni for an evening get-together at a famous seafood restaurant near the Organization Department. He planned to wait for her to finish her overtime work and hoped to take the opportunity to introduce her to his friends.
As he entered, he spotted her sitting at a table by the window, with a young man across from her who was trying hard to impress her. To his surprise, she seemed to be accepting his advances.
Lin Xiao. Li Hao approached the table and greeted her.
When Lin Xiao looked up at him, her smile froze, and the chopsticks she had been using to pick up food paused mid-air. After a moment of shock, she quickly set down the chopsticks and stood up.
Kong Youyou noticed that Lin Xiao appeared somewhat nervous.
"Aren't you going to introduce us?" Li Hao asked again, his expression challenging her to say something foolish.
The complaints from that morning echoed in her mind, but she really didn't want to publicly acknowledge him. In this awkward situation, she quietly introduced him, "This is Li Hao, my boyfriend."
Now it was Kong Youyou's turn to be taken aback; Lin Xiao really had a boyfriend! She thought it was a joke and had never seen him before.
Wang Lei felt a bit embarrassed; he had been pursuing Lin Xiao quite vigorously just moments ago.
Lin Xiao then introduced her colleague.
After exchanging greetings, Li Hao turned to leave. Lin Xiao felt as if she had been caught in an affair and hurriedly chased after him.
