After Lin Xiao left, she sat alone on the sofa for a long time, sadness and oppression filling her chest. For so many years, she had dreamed of growing up quickly to protect her mother and sister. Now, she felt utterly helpless, always sheltered under her sister's wing. Whenever her sister faced difficulties, she was unable to help.
She had always believed that such a wonderful sister would surely meet a good man who would love and cherish her. Then, she would have her own child—just one—without any preference for boys over girls, loving that child wholeheartedly.
When Lin Xiao arrived at Lido Water View, Li Hao had been there for a while, and the room was warm and inviting. As soon as Lin Xiao walked in, Li Hao eagerly embraced her, excitement bubbling over as they hadn’t seen each other in more than a month. Lin Xiao also craved Li Hao’s kiss, standing on her tiptoes to meet him halfway.
“I’ll take a shower first,” Lin Xiao breathed out softly, pushing Li Hao away gently. She hadn’t had a proper shower since returning home.
Li Hao could hardly wait. “I’ll help you wash.”
The water in the bathtub splashed around as the two of them moved, creating waves that threatened to spill over the edge.
“Baby, I missed you,” Li Hao said as he held Lin Xiao facing him.
Lin Xiao looked down at Li Hao in the water; his usually meticulous hairstyle was dampened, a strand of hair falling adorably over his forehead. The droplets on his face couldn’t hide the desire in his eyes.
Leaning down, Lin Xiao kissed his forehead.
Li Hao grinned, thinking to himself that this was exactly what he wanted—to be lost under the peony blossoms with her.
He lifted her up and carried her back to the bed, launching into his own passionate advances. As he looked at Lin Xiao's body marked with varying shades of purple and blue, he felt a mix of tenderness and satisfaction; those were his marks.
After satisfying himself, he wrapped his arms around Lin Xiao, all the fatigue from days of socializing washed away. She was his personal oasis.
However, Lin Xiao had something on her mind. Struggling against heavy eyelids, she turned to lie in Li Hao's embrace without even having the courage to look at him directly; she feared that her disappointment would show in her eyes. “Tomorrow night I’m having dinner with my brother. Do you have other plans?”
Li Hao chuckled inwardly; she was subtly trying to get him to meet her brother. “I do,” he paused deliberately, sensing her slight change in demeanor. “But I can cancel it. I’ll go with you.”
Li Hao was teasing her, and without the burden of anxiety, Lin Xiao Zhi felt great. She playfully reached out to scratch his sensitive spot.
"Keep this up, and you might regret it," Li Hao said, pulling her closer into his embrace, letting her feel the changes in his body.
Lin Xiao stopped teasing him and nestled into his arms, feeling content enough to drift off to sleep.
The next morning, Lin Xiao and Li Hao spent some time cuddling in bed before getting up to go to their shifts. Li Hao had made reservations at the private restaurant, You Lan Ju, where they had their first date.
After picking up Lin Xiao, he went to get Lin Xiao as well. When she saw him, she jumped out of the passenger seat and ran to sit in the back with Lin Xiao.
On the way, Li Hao asked Lin Xiao about her studies like an elder would, chatting about interesting things that happened at Xiangtian University’s library and cafeteria.
All three of them were graduates of Xiangtian University, so the conversation flowed easily without any awkwardness.
Lin Xiao Zhi noted that Li Hao was making an effort to keep the conversation going; if it were his usual self, he could have gone the whole ride without speaking to anyone.
Lin Xiao could sense that Li Hao was intentionally trying to engage him in conversation, which at least indicated that he still valued his sister.
