Bai Xue had been here for half a year. After the foundation was laid in October, she returned to her home country and planned to come back during the Spring Festival.
Li Hao, as if chatting with a friend, mentioned that her health had improved significantly. The traditional Chinese medical techniques still had many aspects worth learning from, and he wanted to recruit a top-tier hospital in Yurou County.
Lin Xiao trembled with anger, suddenly standing up. Was he trying to show off his affection? Realizing his emotions were too intense, he quickly composed himself and said, "I have something urgent to attend to; I need to leave."
Lin Xiao stood up and grabbed her coat from the hanger. Li Hao rose as well and embraced her from behind. "Lin Xiao, you're my only girlfriend."
From the moment Li Hao first met Lin Xiao, he had longed to do this. He missed her so much that it felt like his heart was aching. He had tried so hard not to seek her out, hoping time would heal her worries. But when he learned she was going on blind dates, he could no longer wait.
After that night, he made things clear with Bai Xue. She was only here for a project; they were just friends. He wondered how long she expected him to wait for her to figure things out.
Li Hao whispered in Lin Xiao's ear for a long time until the waiter came over with their food. He took Lin Xiao's hand and sat back down, reluctant to let go.
Lin Xiao felt confused; the meal felt chaotic. She had never imagined such an outcome could arise.
Li Hao followed Lin Xiao home, worried that taking her back to Lido Water View might remind her of painful memories. "Lin Xiao, I want to sleep with you," he said, leaning against her bedroom door. "You've kept me waiting for eight months."
"No, I still haven't decided whether I want to be with you," Lin Xiao replied, though deep down she had already agreed; she just didn't want to be together tonight.
During dinner, Li Hao talked about his work situation with Bai Xue over the past eight months and how he had finally confronted her about their relationship.
Bai Xue returned from the capital ten days after Li Hao came back; she brought him good news: headquarters had agreed to invest.
"Bai Xue, there's something I need to apologize for," he said as his first words before discussing work with her. He felt indebted to Bai Xue and didn't want her to choose to invest in Yu Rao because of him; he hoped for a professional approach.
Bai Xue's face paled slightly. "Go ahead."
"Bai Xue, about what happened seven years ago, I'm truly sorry. I didn't realize you were sick and I blamed you and hated you for not being there when you needed support and care. I've thought about this over the past two months, and it makes me very sad." Li Hao sincerely expressed his feelings.
Seven years had passed, and many things had happened during this time. Lin Xiao was a wonderful girl, and I didn't want to let her down anymore. I could only say sorry to you once again. Li Hao finished speaking and stood up, solemnly apologizing to Bai Xue.
Bai Xue stared blankly at Li Hao, tears streaming down her face. How many times had she thought of him in the dead of night? Now that he was right in front of her, his words felt so heartless.
Li Hao stood there, motionless. He was afraid of softening his heart. In the past, whenever Bai Xue called him like that, he would cross half the campus to find her and comfort her. But now he had Lin Xiao, and he couldn't hurt both girls.
Bai Xue looked at Li Hao, who remained still, and reluctantly said, "You really love her that much? Are we not worth even two years compared to you and her?"
