Upon seeing Professor Sun, Lin Xiao released Li Hao's hand and stood respectfully.
"Mom, I just finished a meeting," Li Hao greeted his mother with a smile. "Lin Xiao, this is my mom; you’ve met her at the hospital."
"Hello, Professor Sun," Lin Xiao said, her tone respectful yet slightly awkward.
"Let’s go inside," Lin Xiao thought to herself, feeling a bit anxious about Professor Sun's imposing demeanor. She didn't think Professor Sun's approval was crucial, but if she disapproved, it might put Li Hao in a difficult position.
The three of them entered the private room where the meal had been ordered by Li Hao. He handed Lin Xiao the manuscript she had prepared. "Mom, what do you think of this?"
Professor Sun opened the brown paper and her expression softened slightly. "How did Fang Mingru end up giving you this manuscript?"
Li Hao replied proudly, "He gave it to Lin Xiao as a gift."
This surprised Professor Sun; Fang Mingru was a book lover who cherished his collection and would never simply give away a book without reason.
Lin Xiao briefly explained how she met Fang Mingru and shared a story about their connection through the "National History Outline." She mentioned that while guiding foreign visitors, she focused on promoting the unique historical resources and inner spiritual strength of her nation.
After hearing this, Professor Sun regarded Lin Xiao with newfound respect. Today's youth often lacked a sense of national pride, thinking such matters were too grand and unrelated to their lives.
When Professor Sun first met Lin Xiao at the hospital, she had already formed an impression. Unlike others who registered their names first, Lin Xiao listened intently to Xiao Meng discussing Li Hao's condition and was strikingly beautiful. Her beauty was not aggressive; rather, it was gentle yet resolute.
Today, she wore a pale yellow turtleneck and light gray short woolen attire, which softened the allure of her beauty.
The meal went smoothly, with both sides enjoying pleasant conversation. Afterward, Professor Sun took out an exquisite purple jewelry box from her bag and presented it to Lin Xiao. Just by looking at the box's quality, Lin Xiao could tell it was valuable and quickly insisted it was too extravagant.
Li Hao took the box from her hands and opened it to reveal a translucent jade bracelet. He picked it up and gently placed it on Lin Xiao's wrist.
Looking at the bracelet adorning her wrist, Lin Xiao couldn't hide her joy. "Thank you, Professor Sun."
Professor Sun observed her son’s silly expression and said with a smile, "From now on, just call me Auntie."
Lin Xiao readily accepted this change. "Thank you, Auntie."
As Lin Xiao accepted the bracelet, she realized that Professor Sun had accepted her into their family. She never expected things to go so smoothly.
She was still worried that Professor Sun, no, her aunt, might tease her a bit. It seemed she was underestimating her character.
That night, Lin Xiao lay in Li Hao's arms, tossing and turning, overwhelmed with emotions and unsure of her thoughts.
"If you don't sleep soon, we might as well get some exercise," Li Hao said, his hands wandering a little.
"Next time just say it; I’m worried you’ll get tired," he added.
Li Hao held her close. "You must tell me anything on your mind from now on, okay?"
Lin Xiao rested on him, listening to his heartbeat, and soon fell asleep. Li Hao embraced the sleeping Lin Xiao in his arms, feeling content as he drifted off.
The next day, after dropping Lin Xiao off at class, Li Hao headed to Kid Plaza and then to the Notary Office.
When he picked Lin Xiao up that evening, they had dinner together.
"Let’s go back to Lido Water View," Li Hao suggested. When Lin Xiao didn’t respond, he wondered if she was still upset.
"No, it’s just that I felt terrible thinking about that day when I left," Lin Xiao admitted, feeling a bit wronged; she had truly been at her wit's end that day.
Li Hao pulled out a brown paper bag from his backpack and pushed it toward Lin Xiao.
Curious, she opened the bag to find a stack of documents and the title deed for a house.
"I’ve notarized the house at Lido Water View and unconditionally gifted it to you. You can change the ownership to your name whenever you want," Li Hao explained.
"What are you doing? That’s not what I meant," Lin Xiao said, surprised and taken aback.
"Lin Xiao, I told you last time that if we’re together and I leave, you stay."
Now Lin Xiao had no reason to refuse. It wasn't just about owning a house worth millions; it was about having Li Hao by her side.
The Lido Water View house was a single unit per floor. As they stepped out of the elevator, Li Hao pulled out a ribbon from his pocket and blindfolded Lin Xiao.
She felt a bit embarrassed. "Do we have to play like this now?"
Hugging his waist shyly, she added, "Just be gentle later; I'm afraid."
Li Hao nearly laughed; she had misunderstood him. He wasn’t sure whether to call her naive or complicated.
Li Hao led the blindfolded Lin Xiao to the center of a heart-shaped arrangement of roses, instructing her to stay still. He then turned on the lights and said, "Now, you can take off the ribbon."
As Lin Xiao untied the blindfold, she was greeted by a breathtaking sight: vibrant red roses surrounded her, encircled by white candles.
Kneeling before her, Li Hao asked, "Lin Xiao, will you marry me?"
Lin Xiao nodded eagerly, her head bobbing like a chick pecking at grain. Overwhelmed with joy, she forgot to respond verbally.
Li Hao stood up and slipped the ring onto her left ring finger. "From now on, you are my wife. Let's pick a good day to register our marriage."
Stepping out from the flowers, Lin Xiao embraced Li Hao and agreed.
Li Hao playfully took the ribbon she had been holding. "What did you think it was for earlier?"
Lin Xiao blushed deeply; she had never imagined it was a proposal.
Without waiting for Lin Xiao's answer, Li Hao tied the ribbon back over her eyes. The fabric obscured her vision but heightened her other senses, making her more aware of everything around her.
In that enchanting moment, Li Hao gazed at Lin Xiao and said, "You’re amazing."
The blessings of creation made every part of her feel perfectly aligned with him. The charming night felt utterly magical.
