His words seemed casual, as if being a police officer meant facing danger was just part of the job.
"I know you can't say much," Lin Xiao said. "But let me tell you this: I won't back down. According to your reasoning, I'm also an officer. In a novel, I'm not someone who flees in the face of danger."
Lin Xiao no longer referred to him as Director Wang; she called him by his name like a friend.

"In what regard?" Lin Xiao asked, puzzled.

Wang Lei briefly explained that Yang Feng was currently involved in criminal activities, but his greatest crime was his connections to organized crime groups in the area.

"You're not a petty person. What we have doesn’t amount to much. Is it really necessary for you to avoid me like I'm a venomous snake?" Wang Lei questioned openly, smiling sincerely.
"I’m not avoiding you," Lin Xiao answered, lacking confidence.
When it came to feelings, she could only hide.
"Since you're not avoiding me, let’s have dinner together. I called Yu Jie; it won’t just be the two of us. You should call Li Hao and let him know," Wang Lei suggested before dialing Yu Jie.
Wang Lei knew he liked Lin Xiao, but this liking was different from wanting to possess her. He appreciated the sense of responsibility and sincerity she exuded, and being friends with her gave him a sense of security, like having a comrade in arms on the battlefield.
Perhaps because he had interrogated too many people and understood the complexities of human nature deeply, he found Lin Xiao's sincerity precious.
At that moment, Lin Xiao couldn’t find a reason to refuse, so she sent a text message to Li Hao, informing him that she would be having dinner with Wang Lei and Yu Jie.
