Dinner was set at a specialty restaurant in Yurou County. During a previous meeting in the county, Lin Xiaojing often saw Yu Jie. The two exchanged polite greetings when they met.
"Come on, you two, let's drop the formalities and just call each other by our names. Whoever messes up has to drink a cup as punishment," said Wang Lei, unable to hold back his teasing towards the two who were being overly courteous.
Being young, after a few drinks, their initial awkwardness faded away.
"Lin Xiao, I really envy you. You've made such progress in just half a year," Yu Jie said with a hint of wistfulness. "Zhao Secretary, you know."
Back when Li Hao was the county head, Zhao Honghua, Bai Guangqiang, and Ke Hongxin were among the first batch of people to be reassigned. Zhao Honghua was the Deputy Secretary of the County Discipline Inspection Commission before being transferred to Mao Wei Township as the township head, and now he has become the Secretary.
This Zhao Secretary is all about being laid-back; he avoids offending anyone in the Disciplinary Committee and refrains from criticizing anyone in the Township. Over the past few years, Mao Wei Township has faced economic difficulties, and its cadre team has become disorganized.
Lin Xiao Zhi understood Zhao Honghua's temperament but didn’t join in on the complaints. "So how are you managing your work?"
"Just muddling through," Yu Jie replied as he raised his glass and took a drink.
"Can you still give orders?" Lin Xiao asked again.
"Orders? The people in our township are like ancient turtles—completely immobile," Yu Jie couldn't help but curse, though he softened his tone a bit. "Lin Xiao, I'm here today to seek your advice."
Lin Xiao looked towards Wang Lei and realized that Yu Jie had come specifically to see him, which eased his mind significantly.
Wang Lei noticed Lin Xiao's relaxed demeanor and felt a bit hurt. Did he really need to be so wary of him?
This dinner was something Wang Lei wanted to treat them to, and as soon as Yu Jie heard about it, he rushed over without hesitation.
Yu Jie and Lin Xiao didn't have a personal relationship; they had tried to meet up twice before but had to cancel due to Lin Xiao's commitments.
"This year, how many times have you reported to the county head and the mayor?" Yu Jie asked with a puzzled expression.
"Have you promoted anyone since you arrived six months ago?"
Yu Jie remained silent.
"Finance Office, how many projects have you allocated funds to?"
From Lin Xiao's question, it seemed that Yu Jie understood something. As Lin Xiao tossed the question to Yu Jie, he realized Li Hao's good intentions towards him. If she had gone elsewhere, she might face the same difficulties as Yu Jie. In a short time, she would need to familiarize herself with the situation comprehensively and wouldn't have someone as capable as Meng Kai by her side.
"I have a floral investment project here. Should I introduce it to you?" Lin Xiao thought it best to follow through with his plans. After all, sending a Buddha to the West was the way to go. Mao Wei Township also had some floral cultivation, but the climate wasn't quite right yet.
A few days ago, when Professor Liu from the Agricultural Science Institute visited the Shan He Tao project, he mentioned that he had a floral cultivation project he wanted to promote. Lin Xiao had known Professor Liu since his days as a secretary several years ago. Over time, Professor Liu had come to trust Lin Xiao, and whenever there was a national project that needed implementation, he would think of Lin Xiao first.
"Really, Lin Xiao!" Yu Jie exclaimed excitedly as he patted Lin Xiao on the shoulder. "Brother, you are my benefactor!"
By now, Yu Jie had drunk quite a bit and was becoming a little tipsy.
Lin Xiao was caught off guard by the sudden pat and stumbled slightly to the side, while Wang Lei quickly steadied him.
"Sorry, sorry! I'm just too excited!" Yu Jie said, having started with quiet drinking but now celebrating joyfully.
"Stop drinking already! What are you doing?" Wang Lei was somewhat annoyed. "Lin Xiao can’t handle you like this!"
After that, Wang Lei stopped giving Yu Jie any more alcohol.
