"Do you really believe him?" Lin Xiao had to admit that Zhao Fei was quite the actor; one moment she was arrogant and domineering, and the next, she transformed into a gentle little rabbit.
"Interesting, just wait for me," Zhao Fei said before running off to make a phone call.
A while later, she returned and handed the phone to Lin Xiao.
On the other end of the line came a woman's voice, "Little virgin, guess who I am?"
Lin Xiao's heart sank. In all her life, she had only been called "little virgin" by Wang Wenya.
"Does President Wang know Zhao Fei?"
Wang Wenya occasionally represented Ning Yuanxuan's team to audit hotels and scenic projects in Yurou County, and Lin Xiao had hosted her a few times.
"She's my cousin. You should thank me; I had Fei'er test Li Hao, and he passed with flying colors."
Wang Wenya said this while laughing, her joy evident in her tone.
Lin Xiao gritted her teeth and replied, "I really thank you for that."
Wang Wenya laughed even more heartily.
It was true that Zhao Fei had developed feelings for Li Hao. She had asked her cousin Wang Wenya to investigate Li Hao's background, and it turned out to be quite a coincidence.
Wang Wenya informed Zhao Fei that Li Hao was married, which left Zhao Fei feeling regretful but willing to let it go. However, Wang Wenya, feeling bored, encouraged Zhao Fei to seduce Li Hao to improve her acting skills.
Zhao Fei shared her cousin's enthusiasm and immediately became interested; they were like two talented individuals ready to take on the world.
After hearing about their plan, Lin Xiao felt speechless and returned the phone to Zhao Fei.
"Sister, I'll treat you to dinner as an apology," Zhao Fei said as she followed Lin Xiao into the elevator.
"Thank you, but I need to go spend time with my child."
Zhao Fei was undeterred and entered the elevator with her. "Sister, you really don't suspect him at all?"
Lin Xiao truly understood what it meant to be relentlessly pursued; it was hard to say harsh words to someone with such a pretty face, especially when it was Wang Wenya's cousin.
"Sister, do you think it's my acting skills? Tell me where you see the flaws!"
Lin Xiao had already reached the door when Zhao Feizhi said, "I’m going to rest now."
Zhao Fei laughed heartily, clutching his stomach, "You’re quite amusing, still so determined."
Lin Xiao felt a bit helpless and waved goodbye before closing the door.
By the time Li Hao finished his work at the hotel, Lin Xiao was still asleep. He took a shower and lay down beside her.
In her dreams, Lin Xiao vaguely sensed Li Hao's arrival and instinctively turned onto her side, nestling into his embrace.
After being apart for over a month, Li Hao shifted closer to the edge of the bed.
Not finding the familiar position, Lin Xiao adjusted herself again.
Li Hao's emotions overcame his rationality as he wrapped his arms around Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao was soon awakened by the warmth against her body. "You’re here?" she murmured, her voice still hoarse from sleep.
Hearing Lin Xiao's sleepy voice, Li Hao opened a thermos and took a sip of water.
Lin Xiao took a couple of sips from the cup he handed her, half-sitting up while leaning into his embrace, listening to the steady beat of his heart, feeling an unusual sense of peace wash over her.
She planned to lie there a little longer before getting up for dinner.
Then she recalled Zhao Fei’s incident and recounted it to Li Hao.
"This afternoon, Wang Wenya called me about this matter. I’ve already scolded her," Li Hao said while gently stroking Lin Xiao's smooth back.
"Darling, stop touching me," Lin Xiao replied, her breath slightly uneven.
After the chaos caused by Zhao Fei, Lin Xiao had been unable to let go of her feelings last night and had lost all interest in anything else. Now that the truth was out, she felt relieved, and her body no longer resisted.
"I finally have my grievances cleared," Li Hao said as he rolled over and pinned her down, his tone filled with grievance yet careful not to fully press down on her.
"I told you yesterday that I trust you."
"You little liar," he teased, "after last night, you owe me some compensation."
