The Bride's Mother quickly took her husband's hand and greeted the guests with a beaming smile.
"Hello, in-laws! We are Xiyun's parents," she introduced herself cheerfully, approaching Han Baiying.
Han Baiying glanced at the couple and replied coolly, "I see."
"In-laws, thank you for raising such an outstanding son as Jiyue. It truly is a blessing for our Xiyun to marry him," the Bride's Mother continued to smile.
"You're right about that. My son is certainly not lacking, and your daughter is fortunate indeed to marry him," Han Baiying said arrogantly, showing no restraint.
"Absolutely, absolutely," the Bride's Mother responded, still eager to flatter despite the condescension. Her husband, the Bride's Father, wore a dark expression, feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
Seeing the Bride's Mother so subservient only fueled Han Baiying's disdain.
Li Xiyun felt a prickling discomfort as she watched her parents being treated with such contempt. However, there was little she could do; her future mother-in-law was too domineering for her to confront directly. She discreetly tugged at Liu Jiyue's sleeve and shot him a glance.
But Liu Jiyue merely smiled back, pretending not to notice.
"By the way, in-laws, I heard from President Zhao that you have a relative who knows someone from the Kong Island Qinghe Society. That person even helped your relative deal with President Zhao's daughter. I didn't expect you to have such influential connections," Han Baiying said with a smirk.
"Uh, I don't know about that; that person isn't my relative," the Bride's Mother quickly replied.
"Not your relative? Heh, how could he possibly be here then?" Han Baiying sneered.
"Dad, Mom, which relative got into trouble?" Li Xiyun asked with a frown upon hearing this.
"A young man; he's not our relative," the Bride's Mother said irritably while pointing at Jiang Chen. The young man was too brash and spoke too boldly.
"Third Madam, tonight is a grand occasion for the Liu Family. How dare a domestic individual come here and act so recklessly? You need to take care of this," Zhao Xinrong's Father remarked.
"I will certainly handle it. In our Liu Family, we won't tolerate anyone causing a ruckus. Come on; I need to see who this kid is that has Lin Family backing him," Han Baiying said with a cold laugh before leading the Liu Family toward Jiang Chen in a grand procession.
"Wait, in-laws, this is a misunderstanding; please don’t be angry," the Bride's Father hurriedly stepped forward to explain. No matter what, he didn't want Jiang Chen to get hurt since he had stood up for them.
"Whether it's a misunderstanding or not is for me to determine; you don't need to worry about it," Han Baiying replied dismissively.
The Bride's Father wanted to say more but was stopped by the Bride's Mother.
"Honey, are you out of your mind? That kid is now the target of everyone's ire. The in-laws already look down on us; don’t provoke them further. As for that kid, he brought this upon himself," she warned.
"This is infuriating!" The Bride's Father felt overwhelmed and deeply frustrated by the Liu Family’s arrogance. This was not how family ties should be formed; he had his own pride and found their forced flattery unbearable.
"Heh, you’d better watch your words and actions; this isn’t your domestic setting. If it weren’t for your daughter, you wouldn’t even have the chance to be here," Han Baiying said coldly, her expression cruel like that of an evil empress who believed her high status meant she could disregard everyone else.
