In the following days, Ye Chen began to gather information, hoping to find a job to earn some money. This way, even if he left Liu Ya, he could rely on his own hands to make a living. 0

The village was small, and after asking around, Ye Chen quickly became familiar with some of the local children, especially a boy named Sun Mao. The two grew closer and often spent time together. 0

"Hey, Sun Mao, do you know if there's anywhere in town to find a job? I want to work," Ye Chen said, a blade of grass between his teeth as he lay on the grass, turning his head to look at Sun Mao. 0

Sun Mao furrowed his brow and thought for a moment before shaking his head. "I don't know. With the war going on outside, where would anyone find work?" 0

As he spoke, Sun Mao lay down next to Ye Chen. "Do you really need money?" 0

Ye Chen nodded gravely. "Yes, I really do." 0

"Is it because your family doesn't have enough food?" Sun Mao asked, still puzzled. 0

At Sun Mao's words, Ye Chen suddenly sat up straight and reached out his hand toward the vast starry sky, as if trying to touch that distant hope. His voice was light yet filled with determination. "Having some money would help me live more securely in this world." 0

Sun Mao also sat up, looking at Ye Chen's gesture with confusion but mimicking him nonetheless. "What you say makes sense, but where are you planning to earn money?" 0

Ye Chen shrugged helplessly. "I don't know, but I'll take it one step at a time. Maybe one day I'll stumble upon good fortune." 0

"Then Brother Ye, if you do find something, remember to take me with you!" 0

"Of course!" 0

The two of them lay on the Back Hill Slope of the village until midnight before heading home. It was a summer night, and many people were lying in their yards, gazing at the stars and enjoying the evening breeze. 0

As Ye Chen pushed open the door, a series of whimpering sounds came from the yard, indicating that something was amiss. 0

It seemed that the customer’s order had not been completed. Looking at the basket of Radishes in the yard, Ye Chen furrowed his brow slightly before turning around and shutting the door behind him. 0

Returning alone to the back slope of the village, Ye Chen intertwined his fingers behind his head, crossed his legs, and closed his eyes. 0

Suddenly, the sound of hooves echoed nearby. Ye Chen turned to look and saw a group of Centaur galloping along the adjacent Official Road. 0

At the forefront was a man clad in a Moonlight White Robe, with tightly cinched sleeves and a Black Gold Belt. He rode with an imposing presence, and as he drew closer, Ye Chen realized that the man was strikingly handsome and exuded an extraordinary aura, far from that of ordinary Common People. 0

Ye Chen's heart tightened. Just as he intended to lower his head and pretend not to see them, for some reason, the man suddenly looked up, his piercing gaze locking onto Ye Chen's. 0

In that instant, it felt as if he had been targeted by a falcon; Ye Chen's heart raced to his throat. 0

"Stop!" 0

With a command from the man, he effortlessly pulled on the horse's neck with one hand. The horse neighed in pain, raising its front hooves high in the moonlight before coming down heavily and gasping for breath. 0

The group of Centaur behind him also came to an abrupt halt. 0

Facing this imposing group alone in the dead of night made Ye Chen feel a twinge of fear. He swallowed hard, trying to calm himself down before mustering up the courage to ask, "Excuse me, gentlemen, what brings you here?" 0

Hearing Ye Chen's words, the man's handsome profile appeared even more stern under the moonlight. He slowly rode closer to Ye Chen, revealing the other half of his sharply defined features that had been hidden in the shadows of the night. 0

The man narrowed his eyes slightly, sizing up Ye Chen from head to toe. With a cold voice, he asked, "Are you a villager here?" 0

Ye Chen's breath nearly caught in his throat. He hurriedly scrambled to his feet, using both hands and feet, and pointed toward the village not far away. "I am indeed a villager here. What brings you gentlemen?" 0

The man did not respond immediately. Instead, he swiftly pulled out a bag from his waist and, with a flick of his arm, threw it forcefully toward Ye Chen. Instinctively, Ye Chen reached out to catch it and felt its weight; it seemed to contain silver. 0

The man clasped his hands together in a respectful gesture and slightly bowed. "May I ask which direction Liu Family Village is?" 0

Ye Chen quickly extended his arm and pointed in a direction. "It's over there; just head west along the Official Road for about seven or eight miles." 0

"Thank you." The man replied briefly before swiftly leading his group away. 0

They came quickly and left just as swiftly, soon disappearing at the end of the Official Road. 0

Watching them fade into the distance along the Official Road, Ye Chen eagerly opened the bag. Inside were some pieces of silver. 0

He weighed them carefully in his hands and estimated that there were about two taels of silver—equivalent to more than a year's income for an ordinary family. 0

Staring at the unexpected silver in his hand, Ye Chen felt momentarily dazed. How was it that he could earn money in the middle of the night without even trying? 0
