Lin Yuan looked around, his comrades standing at the ready, determination etched on each of their faces.
“Brothers, this time we’re playing for real!” Lin Yuan joked lightly, trying to ease the tense atmosphere. After all, in a moment where life and death hung in the balance, no one wanted to wear a grim expression.
Zhou Haoran adjusted his glasses, the lenses reflecting the light from the computer screen. “Brother Yuan, the energy fluctuations from the Qi Gong Association are getting stronger. The Parallel World Portal is likely to open soon! We need to hurry!” He habitually pushed up his nose bridge, his eyes behind the lenses sparkling with intelligence.
Su Jiu'er’s expression was serious as her slender fingers gripped the compass tightly. “I’ve locked onto Nan Gong Xuan’s location; it’s on the top floor of the High-Tech Building in the city center. The Lingqi there is exceptionally active; it should be the entrance to the portal.” Her brows knitted together, a hint of worry in her tone.
“Good!” Lin Yuan’s gaze sharpened. “Li Ming, you’re in charge of hacking into their systems to disrupt their operations. Zhang Qiang and Wang Li, you’re with me for a frontal assault! Jiu'er, you’ll provide remote support and be ready to disrupt their energy flow at any moment!” He paused and added, “Remember, safety first and adapt as needed!”
“Understood!” everyone replied in unison, their voices filled with resolve and confidence.
“Let’s go!” With Lin Yuan’s command, they sprang into action like arrows released from a bow, racing towards their respective targets.
However, Lin Yuan knew deep down that he needed greater power to ensure victory and protect his comrades.
He found a cave in the suburbs rich with Lingqi and decided to make one last breakthrough before their operation began, aiming to reach the Lingjing Awakening stage. The cave was hidden among dense woods, its entrance obscured by vines; it would be hard to find without careful searching.
“Brothers, wait for my return!” Lin Yuan left those words behind as he swiftly entered the cave, his figure vanishing into the darkness.
Inside the cave, Lingqi swirled like a fairyland. Glimmers of light flickered on the cave walls like stars in the night sky. Lin Yuan sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and began circulating the Lingqi within him. He could feel the surrounding Lingqi flowing into his body like a gentle stream, nourishing his meridians.
As he continued to circulate the Lingqi, Lin Yuan felt a powerful pressure surging from all directions, as if it were trying to crush him into pieces. This pressure weighed down on him like Mount Tai, making it hard for him to breathe.
“Wow, this breakthrough is harder than taking college entrance exams!” Lin Yuan muttered inwardly. Back in those days, he could sneak a glance at his desk mate's answers during exams; now this breakthrough relied entirely on his own strength! But he didn’t give up; instead, he focused even more intently on guiding the Lingqi to break through his bottleneck. He gritted his teeth as beads of sweat formed on his forehead, as if he were engaged in an intense battle.
Suddenly, the scene before Lin Yuan twisted, and he found himself in a strange Lingqi Illusion. This illusion was bizarre and unpredictable.
The surrounding environment constantly changed; at times it transformed into the old street where he once lived, the shouts of street vendors and the laughter of children clearly audible; at other times it morphed into the Arena of the Martial Arts Competition he had participated in, with the taunts of his opponents and the cheers of the audience seeming to echo in his ears; and sometimes it became the Main Streets and Alleys he navigated while delivering food, the blaring horns and hurried pedestrians making him feel inexplicably familiar.
Various illusions and traps emerged one after another, and Lin Yuan felt as if he were trapped in a nightmare. One moment it was the Azure Face Fang Demon, the next it was a cliff from the Abyss, and then it was a swarm of Venomous Beasts.
"What kind of place is this?" Lin Yuan cursed inwardly. "Am I breaking through or playing an escape room? This level design is just too unreasonable!"
In the illusion, fragments of his past life appeared—those failures and pains, his deepest fears and regrets surfaced one by one.
He saw himself being poisoned during the Martial Arts Competition, his opponent's sinister smile and the judge's indifferent gaze filling him with humiliation; he saw himself living in despair, an empty room filled with scattered bottles making him feel immense guilt; he saw his parents' disappointed eyes, his mother's sighs, and his father's silence causing him deep heartache.
"No, I don't want to go back to the past!" Lin Yuan shouted angrily, smashing the illusion before him with a punch. He didn't want to relive those painful memories; he wanted to change his fate, to create a future that belonged to him!
However, the illusion did not fade; instead, it became more vivid and cruel.
He saw someone who looked exactly like him standing before him, eyes filled with mockery and disdain. This person wore the same clothes as him, had the same hairstyle, and even wore an identical expression on his face.
"You are nothing but a waste!" the other Lin Yuan sneered. "You will never succeed! You are destined to fail!" His voice hissed like a venomous snake, piercing Lin Yuan's eardrums.
"Shut up!" Lin Yuan roared in fury, charging at his doppelgänger to engage in a fierce battle. He could not tolerate anyone—especially another version of himself—belittling and denying him!
The two fought fiercely, exchanging blows that seemed intent on annihilating each other. This was not just a physical confrontation; it was a mental struggle—a battle between Lin Yuan and his own inner demons.
Lin Yuan continuously reflected on himself during the battle, constantly challenging his limits. He began to contemplate his life, his goals, and his values.
Gradually, he realized that the true enemy was not others, but the fears and weaknesses within himself. Only by conquering himself could he overcome everything! Only by overcoming his inner fears could he attain true freedom!
Lin Yuan's eyes were filled with determination and confidence as he began to actively confront the various trials within the illusion. He no longer avoided or feared; he would face his inner self and his challenges head-on!
He fell time and again, yet each time he stood back up. Like an indomitable warrior, he pressed forward along the thorny path!
With his perseverance and courage, he triumphed over all challenges in the illusion. He defeated monsters, crossed chasms, and dispelled the Venomous Beasts. He conquered the fears within him and overcame his former self!
Ultimately, he successfully broke through to the Lingjing Awakening stage, gaining more powerful abilities and clearer insights. He felt as if he had been reborn, experiencing a renewal of spirit!
Awakening from the illusion, he felt a surge of strength coursing through him, as if he had undergone a transformation. The Lingqi around him became denser and purer.
"I've finally broken through!" Lin Yuan exclaimed excitedly as he clenched his fists. "Now it's time to return and fight alongside my brothers!" He was eager to return to the real world and join his companions in battling the Qi Gong Association to save the world!
However, just as he prepared to leave the cave, he suddenly sensed a powerful aura rapidly approaching. This presence was unfamiliar yet formidable, sending a shiver of unease through him.
Who could it be?
