After Liang Tian and Xiao Zhan swore brotherhood, life seemed to gradually fall into place. Liang Tian continued to keep a low profile at school, occasionally meeting with Chen Xue, and their feelings for each other were quietly deepening. Meanwhile, Xiao Zhan was busy managing his affairs in Jiangnan City’s Underworld. Although both were occupied with their own lives, their brotherly bond grew stronger.
One day, as Liang Tian was preparing to head to school, he received a text message from Chen Xue. In the message, she invited him to a banquet hosted by the Chen Family, mentioning that it had been a long time since they held such a grand gathering. Various business elites and prominent families would be in attendance, and she hoped Liang Tian could accompany her.
Looking at the message, Liang Tian felt a bit hesitant. He was well aware of the Su Family's status in Jiangnan City; such a banquet would undoubtedly attract many socialites, and he felt out of place with his simple attire. However, thinking about attending with Chen Xue and the opportunity to witness the grandeur of the mortal elite, which might aid his own development in the mortal realm, he decided to reply affirmatively.
On the day of the banquet, Liang Tian arrived at the designated location dressed in his only relatively neat outfit. Chen Xue had already been waiting there; she wore an elegant white evening gown that made her look like a fairy descended from heaven. Upon seeing Liang Tian arrive, a glimmer of surprise flashed in her eyes as she smiled and greeted him, “Liang Tian, you’re here.”
Liang Tian gazed at the radiant Chen Xue and couldn’t help but be momentarily captivated. He praised her, “Chen Xue, you look beautiful today.” Chen Xue’s cheeks flushed slightly as she replied, “You look handsome too. Let’s go inside.” With that, she linked her arm with his and they walked into the banquet hall together.
Inside the banquet hall, lights sparkled and decorations were lavish. Crystal chandeliers emitted dazzling light that reflected off everyone’s splendid attire. The descendants of the Chen Family moved gracefully through the crowd in their expensive gowns, chatting and laughing. When Liang Tian and Chen Xue entered the hall, they instantly attracted quite a few gazes.
Some of the Chen Family descendants noticed Liang Tian’s plain clothing and couldn’t help but show disdain. One young man from the Su Family, dressed in a suit with slicked-back hair and a mocking smile on his lips, remarked to those around him, “Why did Chen Xue bring such a shabby guy to the banquet? It’s really embarrassing for the Su Family.” The people nearby chuckled softly in agreement.
Liang Tian heard these mocking words but remained unfazed. He maintained his composure with a faint smile on his face. Chen Xue felt angry and wanted to retort on Liang Tian’s behalf but was gently restrained by him as he signaled her not to act impulsively.
At that moment, an elder from the Chen Family approached them. Upon seeing Liang Tian and Chen Xue together, he frowned slightly and said, “Chen Xue, why did you bring an outsider to the banquet?” Chen Xue hurriedly explained, “Uncle, Liang Tian is my friend; I invited him today.” The elder’s expression softened a bit but he still said, “Since he’s here, behave properly and don’t cause any trouble at the banquet.” With that, he turned and walked away.
Watching this unfold, Liang Tian gained a deeper understanding of the Chen Family's elitist views. However, rather than feeling inferior or angry about it, he became even more determined to make a name for himself in this mortal world. After all, with memories and legacies from the celestial realm within him, how could he be constrained by these worldly judgments? He was curious to see what else would unfold at this Su Family banquet…
