As Teacher Zhuang led Peng Fei through the door, the inviting aroma of cooked dishes wafted through the air. Huang Ling, wearing an apron and humming a little tune, busily moved between the kitchen and dining area, arranging neatly placed bowls and chopsticks while bringing plate after plate of meticulously prepared dishes to the table. In her mind, she envisioned the warm scene of the family gathered around for dinner. 0

Teacher Zhuang cleared his throat and pulled Peng Fei closer to Huang Ling, a somewhat awkward smile on his face as he introduced, "Ling, this is Peng Fei, my nephew. He'll be living with us from now on." The dish that Huang Ling was about to set down froze mid-air, her previously cheerful expression instantly swept away by a gust of cold wind. Shock, disbelief, and anger flickered in her eyes before igniting like a powder keg. She slammed the dish onto the table with force, hands on her hips, her chest heaving with indignation as she raised her voice, trembling slightly: "What are you thinking? You bring home such a big child without even a word of warning! We have to plan for everything in this household—food, expenses—how can we accommodate another mouth? Do you even consider me or this family?" 0

With that, she stomped her foot and stormed into the bedroom, slamming the door behind her with a bang that shook the frame. Teacher Zhuang stood there, helpless and guilty, unsure whether to comfort the startled Peng Fei or to calm Huang Ling's fury. 0

The pent-up frustration in Huang Ling's chest dissipated quickly in the face of reality. Seeing Peng Fei looking like a helpless little creature who had just stepped into this new home as part of the family made her feel a mix of helplessness and sympathy. She sighed inwardly, realizing she would have to set aside her emotions for now and take good care of this child. 0

Just then, Lin Dongzhe and Suzhou burst into the house like two cheerful swallows, chattering excitedly and bouncing around. The atmosphere brightened with their energy. Teacher Zhuang smiled and introduced them; the children exchanged glances filled with initial shyness that quickly transformed into curiosity and friendliness. Before long, they were as close as old friends. 0

Suzhou and Zhuang Xiaoting huddled together, their heads touching as they eagerly shared their reading experiences—one recounting an enchanting adventure from a fairy tale while the other spoke of fascinating knowledge from a science book. Their innocent chatter was filled with love for books and exploration. 0

On an old wooden table sat a large watermelon with vibrant green skin, round and glistening—something Teacher Zhuang had carefully selected at dawn from the market, hoping to provide some relief from the sweltering summer heat for the children. Huang Ling washed her hands and deftly picked up a knife; with a swift motion, she sliced through the watermelon with a satisfying crack, revealing its juicy red flesh speckled with black seeds. The sweet aroma immediately filled the air. 0

Huang Ling smiled as she called the children over, distributing evenly cut pieces of watermelon. They devoured it eagerly, juice dripping down their chins in delight. Only Peng Fei stood apart, his face flushed red as he nervously clasped his hands behind his back, his feet seemingly glued to the ground as he shrank back slightly, shaking his head like a bell in the wind. "I... I'm not thirsty, Auntie. You all eat." 0

Seeing him like this tugged at Huang Ling's heartstrings. She quickly stepped over to him, took his hand gently, and firmly placed a piece of watermelon in it while softly encouraging him: "Silly child, don’t be shy; everyone gets some! Try it; it's really sweet." After hesitating for a moment longer, Peng Fei finally accepted it with flushed cheeks and took small bites. A smile gradually spread across his face as he relaxed. 0

Once they finished eating watermelon, the children's energy surged even more—they were like restless little beasts clamoring to go outside for some fun. So off they went in lively spirits toward the nearby shop. As soon as they stepped through the threshold of the store, Peng Fei's eyes widened at the sight of colorful candies lining the shelves like treasures sparkling in vibrant hues—fruit candies glistening like jewels, creamy milk candies exuding rich aromas, and chocolates that looked decadently inviting. His gaze was magnetically drawn to them; he couldn’t help but inch closer until he was nearly pressed against the shelf. 0

The shopkeeper noticed him staring without buying anything and frowned disapprovingly: "If you're not buying anything, stop staring." It felt like cold water had been splashed on him; his face turned crimson with embarrassment and disappointment yet he couldn’t tear his eyes away. 0

Lin Dongzhe and Suzhou exchanged amused glances; Suzhou waved dismissively and said cheerfully: "How can you buy if you don’t look closely? We're here to pick out candy today!" With that, she nimbly selected several interesting candies from the shelf and opened one package before handing it to Peng Fei with a wink: "Try this! It’s sweet enough to warm your heart!" 0

Peng Fei took it hesitantly and popped it into his mouth; instantly, rich sweetness exploded on his tongue as a radiant smile lit up his face. 0

Huang Ling watched from nearby as she saw how friendly and harmonious the children were together—it warmed her heart. Noticing how hot it was outside under the blazing sun, she turned toward the freezer and carefully picked out ice creams for each child. After paying for them all, she handed out cool treats one by one. The ice creams sparkled enticingly as they eagerly licked them; cold sweetness blended delightfully in their mouths—it was pure bliss. 0

As Peng Fei enjoyed his ice cream while animatedly recounting stories about Guizhou—the rolling mountains shrouded in mist where mysterious caves hid stunning stalactites resembling dreamlike wonders—his excitement was infectious. The other children chimed in enthusiastically about Suzhou’s charming spots—the elegant gardens where every step revealed picturesque scenes intertwined with winding corridors and rockeries; tales of ancient boats gliding through tranquil waters past historic bridges lined with quaint shops filled with lively market sounds—all their voices mingled together in joyous chatter outside the store like a delightful childhood symphony that swept away all worries into oblivion. 0
