That day, the warm sunlight bathed the campus of Fudan University, and the air was filled with a unique sense of busyness and anticipation as a job fair was being held. Lin Dongzhe and Xiao Ting had made plans early on, walking hand in hand along the street leading to the fair. Their heads leaned together as they quietly discussed the opportunities that might arise from the event. With bright eyes full of hope, Lin Dongzhe said, "Xiao Ting, I heard that many big companies are coming. We need to perform well and try to secure a good internship." Xiao Ting chuckled softly and nodded, her hair dancing in the gentle breeze. "Yes, but the competition will definitely be fierce; we need to put in extra effort." Their sweet demeanor was evident to anyone passing by; their hands swayed slightly as they walked, and their eyes sparkled with affection.
At that moment, Zhuang Tunan strolled down the street humming a tune. When he glanced up, he spotted Lin Dongzhe and Xiao Ting in their intimate pose. His eyes widened in surprise as if he had witnessed something shocking, and he came to a halt. After a moment of processing what he saw, he stepped closer and circled around them with a puzzled expression. Pointing at Lin Dongzhe, he exclaimed, "Xiao Ting, how did you end up with him? And you're holding hands!" Xiao Ting's face flushed red, instinctively wanting to pull her hand away, but Lin Dongzhe tightened his grip and puffed out his chest, raising an eyebrow at Zhuang Tunan. "What? We're dating now, aren't we?"
Zhuang Tunan frowned, crossing his arms as he scrutinized Lin Dongzhe from head to toe. He muttered under his breath, "I really don't get it. Xiao Ting, what do you see in him? In terms of looks, he's just average; in terms of talent, he's not that outstanding either."
The group headed into a nearby restaurant and found a quiet corner to sit down. Just then, Lu Zean and Lin Xiao Yu appeared at the entrance of the restaurant hand in hand. Their arms were bent gracefully as their long fingers intertwined with Lin Xiao Yu's small hand. It seemed as if the chaos of the world had nothing to do with them; all that mattered was their close bond.
As they entered, Lu Zean slightly turned to one side, gentlemanly holding back the heavy curtain at the entrance for Lin Xiao Yu while gazing at her with affectionate eyes. He softly warned her, "Be careful not to bump your head." His voice was deep and rich, carrying a hint of concern like the warmest breeze on a spring day. Lin Xiao Yu looked up at him with a sweet smile and replied softly with an "Mm," her voice tender and charming. Her eyes were filled with trust and love as they interacted with each other in such a loving manner.
Once inside the restaurant, Lu Zean quickly raised his hand and cheerfully greeted everyone: "Hey everyone!" He pulled Lin Xiao Yu along briskly toward their table, moving as if carried by the wind. Lin Xiao Yu kept her head slightly lowered, her cheeks flushed deeper from being under everyone's gaze; she felt both shy from their attention and lost in the sweetness of her romantic atmosphere. At the table, Lu Zean thoughtfully pulled out a chair for Lin Xiao Yu before sitting beside her. He casually draped his arm over the back of her chair, appearing relaxed yet protective.
Zhuang Tunan was still preoccupied with Lin Dongzhe and Xiao Ting's relationship, muttering complaints under his breath. Hearing Zhuang Tunan's endless grumbling about them made Lin Dongzhe roll his eyes mischievously before retorting, "Tu Nan Brother, why are you so focused on me and Xiao Ting? Why don’t you think about yourself? You have Sister Li Jia after all; what’s stopping you from pursuing her?"
The moment those words left his mouth, it was like a small stone dropped into a still lake, sending ripples across the surface. Zhuang Tunan immediately lost his earlier bravado; his face turned bright red like a ripe tomato as he stammered defensively, "What do you know? You can't rush these things; feelings take time to develop." Yet his eyes darted away from everyone else’s gaze.
Lu Zean couldn't help but chuckle at this exchange and teased him further: "Oh Tu Nan Brother, so you do have a soft spot! You were just saying we weren't being considerate by pairing off while leaving you behind—yet here you are hiding your own feelings! Why not act on them?"
Xiao Ting also covered her mouth with a light laugh and gently encouraged him: "Zhuang Tunan, actually Lin Dongzhe is right! If you like Sister Li Jia, be bold about it! Don’t just keep it to yourself."
Zhuang Tunan scratched his head awkwardly and took a big gulp from his water cup in an attempt to suppress his embarrassment. He mumbled defensively: "Come on guys, you don’t understand! I know what I'm doing; when the time is right..." Despite saying this confidently, there was an unmistakable hint of urgency in his eyes that revealed his own struggles with feelings. The others exchanged knowing glances before bursting into laughter again as the restaurant filled with that carefree atmosphere typical of youth—a blend of innocence and intimacy.
