"Wow, Nephew, I didn't expect you to have such skills at such a young age. Impressive!" He patted his belly and leaned back in the dining chair with a big smile.
He wasn't very familiar with Shi Tian; they had only shared a meal on the day Shi Tian arrived in Sanya, and they hadn't talked much. But after tasting Shi Tian's cooking again, he had other thoughts. If Shi Tian's dishes were this delicious, he would have to come over more often for meals. Fishermen don't have high demands when it comes to food—only when they have a rod in hand! But there are times when one should still be particular about what they eat.
In response to Air Force's compliment, Shi Tian simply chuckled and said, "Oh, it's nothing special. I just wanted to make it easier for myself to eat, so I fiddled around a bit. I can only make a few home-cooked dishes. If you like it, feel free to eat more!"
Shi Tian actually hoped they would come over every day for meals; that way, he could get feedback on his cooking and improve his skills. Unfortunately, his wallet couldn't support such a powerful trio.
"Xiao Tian, do you have time tomorrow? Let's go fishing in the mountains!" Lu Ya invited as he lay on the side and glanced at Shi Tian.
Since coming to Sanya, Shi Ye had accompanied them fishing, and Lu Ya had even asked him why he didn't bring Shi Tian along. At that time, he had heard Shi Ye say that Shi Tian didn't know how to fish and had never fished before, so Lu Ya wanted to see if the legendary 'guardian hand' really existed.
This concept was too mystical; he had never seen it himself, but most people believed it was real. Now that he finally found a test subject, he wanted to see if it was truly as magical as rumored.
With Lu Ya extending the invitation, Shi Tian found it hard to refuse. Besides, if he could fish, wouldn't that save him quite a bit on ingredients?
"Sure! I've never been fishing before! Should we buy a fishing rod?"
Fishing is simple! Just a rod, a line, and some worms can bring back big fish—it sounds like a great investment.
"You don't need to prepare anything! We'll come get you early tomorrow. We have plenty of fishing gear; just come empty-handed!" Lu Ya said generously.
Does a fisherman lack fishing gear? What a joke!
Of course, saying they didn't lack fishing gear was relative; for fishermen, fishing gear is like women's clothing—no matter how much they have, it's never enough.
After filling up on food with Shi Tian, the group moved to the yard where Shi Tian had prepared some entertainment.
He had been practicing Iron Plate Squid for several days and wanted everyone to try it tonight to see their reactions.
Air Force and the others brought over some drinks but hadn't touched them yet; they were too busy eating. They hadn't even finished what Shi Tian had prepared for them.
"Did you not fill the pool with water? Why isn't there any water in this swimming pool?" Air Force asked disappointedly as he looked at the dry pool. He had originally wanted to swim a few laps but was let down by its emptiness.
"The water is connected; it's just that the pool hasn't been cleaned yet. In a few days! Once we clean it up, we can swim!" The iron plate was already hot enough; he poured oil onto it and laid down strings of squid that sizzled pleasantly.
"Just call someone over to clean it up; why do you have to do it yourself?" Shi Ye chimed in as he returned from the backyard. "The lawn needs some care too; let's have them come over tomorrow to tidy things up!"
Hearing that Shi Ye wanted someone to take care of the lawn, Shi Tian quickly reminded him, "I've planted some vegetables back there; make sure you tell them not to trample my plants!"
After returning inside, he busied himself in the backyard. He planted a good amount of garlic chives and celery, regardless of whether it was the right season or not. The weather here was hot, allowing for year-round gardening. As for which vegetables could adapt to this climate, only time would tell once they were planted.
"You're growing vegetables now? Planning to live a pastoral life?" Shi Ye found Shi Tian's idea somewhat baffling.
Despite the unruly grass in the yard, some of it had been bought at a high price; with a little trimming, the place could instantly look much more refined. "What’s with your vegetable garden? Do you really think this big villa is a farmhouse garden?"
Shi Tian had never farmed before, and Shi Ye was well aware of that. Not to mention Shi Tian, even he had never worked the fields as a child. It was Shi Chui who had helped their family harvest wheat before; could it be that Shi Chui’s skills were so impressive that he passed them on to Shi Tian?
Growing vegetables without pesticides or fertilizers meant they could eat with peace of mind! He couldn’t just tell Air Force and Lu Ya it was to save money; otherwise, he would lose face in front of Shi Ye.
Good cooking required good ingredients—this was essential! Lu Ya nodded in agreement as she watched Shi Tian with the squid in his hands.
The squid was nearly done frying when Shi Tian sprinkled some seasoning over it, filling the entire yard with its delicious aroma.
That was true; tonight's carp tasted much better than yesterday's—was it wild? Lu Ya quickly changed the subject, and Shi Tian eagerly followed along.
Upon hearing that today's carp was tastier than yesterday's, Shi Ye immediately expressed his regret. They had eaten too quickly earlier; by the time the carp arrived at the table, the three of them were already full and hadn’t even touched their chopsticks.
Once the Iron Plate Squid was ready, he served each of them one and then raised his beer for a toast.
The most painful thing for a person is holding delicious food in hand but being too full to eat. Even worse is being unable to eat while still holding a beer!
However, this squid was indeed fragrant; after tasting a bite, he couldn’t stop. Even if he couldn’t swallow it down completely, chewing on it for a while brought him satisfaction.
Seeing that the three of them truly couldn’t eat anymore, Shi Tian decided to stop his efforts. He grilled four more skewers, turned off the heat, and sat down to play on his phone while watching them stroll around the yard chatting about Yanse Lake Construction.
Yanse Lake Construction was indeed a major project that would require significant investment. However, they didn’t plan to open Yanse Lake to the public; it was just for their own fishing convenience. Was it really worth investing so much money?
By the time the three of them headed back, it was already late at night, and since they weren’t driving, they walked home. As for the car they came in, it remained stuck at his gate.
After seeing them off, Shi Tian quickly got up to clean up the mess. With so many dishes left out, he knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep if he didn’t tidy up!
At three in the morning, after cleaning his room and taking a shower, just as he lay down, his phone rang—it was Shi Ye calling.
"Get up and freshen up! Bring some ingredients; we’ll leave in ten minutes!"
