After spending an entire day fishing without catching a single fish, the middle-aged man chuckled to himself, thinking about how he would explain this to his wife. He approached the old man and said, "This is a Black Sea Bream. The price here is around fifty. This fish weighs about two pounds, so how about I give you a hundred for it?"
Hearing that one fish was worth a hundred, Shi Tianyi, who was playing with crabs nearby, was taken aback. He knew that sea fish were expensive, but he never expected them to be this costly. This could be a path to wealth! However, he had already decided to sell fishing gear, so he would put that idea on hold for now. Still, it could be something to consider during his free time.
The middle-aged man didn't seem like the generous type. At first, he addressed the old man respectfully, but when it came to discussing the price, he switched to a more casual tone. The offer he made didn't seem particularly high.
Shi Tianyi quickly took out his phone and searched online. The middle-aged man had mentioned that this fish was a Black Sea Bream, so he looked up images and prices for it. On Dog Dong, the price for a Black Sea Bream was higher than what the man had quoted—about one hundred fifty or sixty. Was he really offering only seventy percent of its value?
Before Shi Tianyi could speak up, Air Force furrowed his brow at the middle-aged man's words. Although he had been fishing quietly, his attention had never left the old man and Shi Ye.
"That price isn't fair! A wild Black Sea Bream of this size should be worth at least eighty!" Air Force said as he reeled in his line and stood beside the old man.
Shi Ye also reeled in his line but remained silent, standing on the other side of the old man with a smile on his face.
Upon hearing Air Force's comment, the middle-aged man awkwardly smiled and said apologetically, "My wife is strict with money; she only gives me three hundred a month for spending. With the month coming to an end, I've only got a hundred left. I have no choice but to offer you this low price!"
As he spoke, he bent down and took off his shoes, pulling out a hundred-dollar bill from inside. He removed the fish from the hook and handed it to the old man, saying, "No need for money; just take this fish and enjoy it!"
The old man had no interest in taking money that smelled of desperation. He wasn't inclined to make things difficult for the fisherman either.
"Ah! In these times, even catching a fish isn't easy!" he sighed. Since everyone else was done fishing as well, they decided not to continue.
The old man wanted to stay there for the night—not just for fishing but also because there were so many people around. However, after hearing Air Force mention that there were better fishing conditions at Liudao Bay, he quickly hopped into the car.
Sea fish are not comparable to saltwater fish; they are much stronger and larger. Although the few fish the old man had caught weren't very big, their fighting strength rivaled that of a five-pound Big Grass Carp he'd caught before. He was now seriously considering switching to sea fishing!
Back at the villa, the old man eagerly boasted about his fishing achievements to his friends in Beijing while Shi Tianyi settled into the sofa to check sea fish prices online.
If he wanted to sell fishing gear, he'd need a storefront! Renting a place wasn't cheap; it could easily cost around eighty thousand.
Saltwater fish prices were low—generally around ten dollars—but even Largemouth Bass prices were only about twenty bucks at most.
Sea fish were different; they started at twenty dollars and could easily go up to sixty or seventy—prices several times higher than saltwater fish.
Shi Tianyi had already made up his mind: while fishing, he would also collect Fish Hooks and save up money. Once he had enough saved up, if it still wasn't sufficient, he'd think of ways to sell off some Fishing Rods first. Once his store opened, he'd be able to run this profitable business!
After finishing dinner at the old man's place, Shi Tian hurried back to the villa and locked himself in his bedroom to start tinkering with his sea fishing gear. He needed to prepare a set of Iso Rods and a set of Lure Rods. However, when he opened the Fishing Box and saw the prices for the Iso Rod and Lure Rod, he could only silently choose one Iso Rod.
The prices for the Hand Rod, Iso Rod, and Lure Rod in the Fishing Box were similar, but the latter two came with reels, and just one reel cost as much as a rod. With only a limited amount of funds in hand, Shi Tian opted for the Iso Rod, equipped it with a reel and line, and prepared some hooks for tomorrow's fishing trip. The remaining funds were insufficient to buy another Lure Rod.
Having assembled his Iso Rod, he made dozens of Iso Rod hooks and organized them into a Small Tackle Box. Tomorrow, he was determined to make it a big day!
Just after five in the morning, Shi Tian was awakened by a phone call from the old man. To ensure they could fish comfortably, the old man had called them all at five o'clock sharp. Breakfast was out of the question; according to him, it had already been prepared and they would eat in the car!
Eating breakfast in the car wasn't an issue, but he was the one driving! How could he eat? He couldn't possibly hold a plate with one hand while shoving food into his mouth with the other!
Upon arriving at the Fishing Spot, there were already quite a few people there. Anticipating this situation, Shi Ye had made arrangements in advance to secure a good spot and even sent someone last night to set up.
After parking the car, Shi Tian didn't rush to eat; instead, while the others were still getting ready to fish, he took the opportunity to change their hooks first. He needed to ensure that they were well-prepared before starting.
Apo Fishing mostly involved Single Hooks, typically baited with Sandworms or Live Shrimp; Little Squid and Antarctic Shrimp also made for good bait. However, Live Shrimp and Sandworms tended to be more effective.
Sandworms were particularly unattractive; not only was it difficult to put them on a Fish Hook, but just looking at them could make anyone feel queasy! Little Squid was decent too, but they squirt ink when threatened, which could easily confuse any nearby fish!
Once he had arranged the Fish Hooks for his companions, Shi Tian didn't rush into fishing right away. Taking advantage of the cool weather and the presence of many fishermen around, he decided to spread some warmth by sharing Fish Hooks with nearby Fishing Buddies.
"Hey bro, how's it going?" he asked as he approached Huang Pao Shen, one of his Fishing Buddies who was closest to him, handing him a cigarette.
This guy was part of a certain team of riders who only had time to come out early in the morning or late at night for some fishing. It was barely six o'clock now; in this tourist city, that was quite early for most tourists—most wouldn’t wake up until nine.
However, those who were part of organized tours had to rise early. Their hotels provided breakfast; even if they didn’t have that, tour groups would arrange designated dining spots for them. Except during late-night hours when things were quiet, this group didn’t fall under Huang Robe Guy’s usual clientele!
