Recalling the last time with the Rod, Shi Tian felt a surge of resentment. That was his first Rod, and it had broken on his very first fishing trip. No matter who you were, it was hard to feel good about that.
Today, he came to buy Lead Weights, specifically bringing along that Rod. He wasn't about to cause trouble for the Fishing Gear Shop Owner over a Rod worth just a few Ten Dollars, but he figured he could use it to negotiate a better price.
In the shop, besides Shi Tian, there were other customers. As soon as he spoke up, the owner's face darkened instantly. Fortunately, none of the other customers heard him; otherwise, would they still be able to conduct business?
"I'll give you twenty; how many pounds do you want?" The owner wanted to quickly silence Shi Tian. He didn't expect to make any profit from him; he just wanted to avoid scaring off the other customers, especially since one of them was holding a high-end surfcasting rod worth over a thousand dollars.
Shi Tian glanced at the owner. Was he really that easy to negotiate with? Had he set his price too high?
No matter; he was in a hurry and didn't have time to waste here.
"Let's start with five pounds! Make sure it's enough! Otherwise, I'll come back for you!" He needed to buy Lead Weights quickly because the price online for lead blocks was more than half cheaper than buying Lead Weights here. There was no need for him to spend extra money unnecessarily.
With gritted teeth, the Fishing Gear Shop Owner watched as Shi Tian left with five pounds of Lead Weights, leaving behind an elegant view of his retreating figure.
Back home, Shi Tian checked his Points. After this round trip, he had gained over thirty more Points. This group of Fishermen wasn't pulling their weight!
He couldn't rely on them in the short term; if things continued like this, he would have to Chou Tiao again and focus on developing three hundred tools first!
Three hundred tools contributing ten Points each per day would total three thousand Points!
However, that was unlikely since most Fishermen only managed to fish once a week at best. Even getting ten Points in a week would be considered good.
Sigh! Taiwanese Fishing had so much more potential! He needed to find a way into the Taiwanese Fishing camps! Only by infiltrating the enemy's ranks could he hope for better rewards!
With a sigh, Shi Tian poured the Lead Weights into his Fishing Box and selected one hundred of the Apo Fishing Hooks he'd prepared last night. He clicked start on the production process and watched as three hundred Points vanished.
The time taken to make one set of hooks was the same as making one hundred sets; it was just that larger items could only be made in smaller batches—sometimes only one at a time. Unfortunately, his Points weren't sufficient, and there wasn't much unlocked yet.
Looking at the meager three-digit Points left in his Fishing Box, Shi Tian felt helpless. His Iso Rod had been taken by the Air Force and ended up in an old man's hands; there was no way it would come back.
With these few Points, making an Iso Rod was out of the question; even crafting a Wheel wouldn't be possible!
Should he try to persuade the old man to Chou Tiao? But would an old man used to catching big fish still be interested in smaller ones?
He had to spend time with the old man over these next few days; disappearing midway wasn't an option. This required some careful thought. Well, after spending two days with him already, if he endured another two days, he'd be able to go solo Chou Tiao.
At three in the afternoon, the old man's call came right on time.
The old man suggested continuing with Reef Fishing, but this proposal was ruthlessly shot down by the Air Force. Reef Fishing was exhausting; there were no comfortable spots to sit—only standing.
With Reef Fishing dismissed, Shi Tian seized the opportunity to suggest going back to that little pond for Chou Tiao from two days ago. This earned him a sharp look from Shi Ye.
"What are you joking about? Chou Tiao? Pan Hei Keng is way more exciting than Chou Tiao!"
Shi Ye proposed to go to Heikeng, and the Air Force immediately raised their hands in agreement. Although none of them particularly enjoyed fishing at Heikeng, the environment was nice! Some spots even had designated fishing areas, making it comfortable to sit and relax.
The old man, however, didn’t like Heikeng at all. Now that he was in Sanya, he certainly wouldn’t be fishing there. Reluctantly, they compromised on fishing in the river this afternoon; that seemed acceptable!
With the decision made to fish in the river, Shi Tian quickly ran back to grab his gear. He didn’t need to mention the rod; at the very least, he had to bring along some hooks. He had plenty of various types of Taiwanese fishing hooks and aimed to give away at least a few dozen today!
The Air Force chose a fishing spot under the Ring Road bridge. Fishing was prohibited here, but it was common to see people fishing both above and below the bridge. If they couldn’t fish under the bridge, they could do so beside it. As for the city-wide ban on fishing implemented earlier to maintain city appearance, it seemed no one dared to enforce it anymore or perhaps it was simply canceled; either way, no one mentioned it now.
Compared to rocky areas, this location offered a much better environment. After selecting their fishing spot and preparing some bait, the Air Force set up a fishing chair for the old man.
Watching a large number of fishermen along the river made Shi Tian a bit excited; these were all potential points! He absolutely couldn’t let this opportunity slip by! Following Shi Ye’s lead, he began looking for a good spot on the bottom. As soon as his 2.7-meter rod came out, Shi Ye took notice.
After trying out Shi Tian’s fishing rod, Shi Ye confirmed that this wasn’t one he had found in his storage room. Although he owned countless rods, if he had used one with this particular feel before, he would definitely remember it.
He placed the rod back on Shi Tian’s rod rack but didn’t take it; instead, he opened Shi Tian’s rod bag and pulled out a 7.2-foot rod and a 5.4-meter long rod.
After testing both rods for feel and confirming they were fine, he also checked two sets of line setups before feeling satisfied enough to leave.
After departing from Shi Tian’s area, he delivered a 5.4-meter rod to the old man while taking the 7.2-foot rod back to his own fishing spot and attached some fish bait before casting into the water.
By the time the Air Force realized what was happening and checked Shi Tian’s trunk, they found only some accessories left inside; everything else was gone.
Noticing that Air Force was eyeing his 2.7-meter noodle rod, Shi Tian turned back and said, “The 2.7-meter one is for Chou Tiao; want to give it a try?”
Air Force picked up the smaller rod and tested its feel briefly before sighing and shaking his head. “No thanks; you can use that for Chou Tiao! I’m going for big fish! I’ll catch a carp later; you can make sweet and sour carp tonight! It’s been days since I’ve had it; I’m craving it!”
The small rod felt good in hand, but it was still just a small rod; there was no way it would work well in such a large river where fish might not even bite.
“As long as you can catch something tonight, I’ll cook! Here are two sets of hooks; these are good ones—use them!” Shi Tian pulled out several sets of finished fish hooks from his fishing box and handed them to Air Force before getting up again to spread some warmth during this waiting period.
He still had quite a few San Gou hooks left—various models totaling nearly a thousand—packed neatly in self-sealing bags. These didn’t require points; Shi Tian had made so many at once that they were practically useless now.
He distributed a set of finished hooks to each fisherman along with ten or so of each model of San Gou hooks, adding another member to their group.
Initially, Shi Tian thought that fish hooks were low-priced items that many people wouldn’t want. However, giving fish hooks to fishermen was like giving eggs to an elderly lady—very few refused them.
After circling around half the riverbank, he realized he didn’t have enough finished hooks left, which left him feeling somewhat frustrated.
Returning to his fishing spot, he sneakily checked his points and saw that they had increased by over a hundred since noon. Aside from those earned from reef fishing participants, it seemed these Taiwanese fishermen were quite generous too!
