The fishing conditions today were pretty good! In just half an hour, everyone had started catching fish! After sharing cigarettes with the three of them, Shi Tian looked at the Float on the sea surface and commented.
“Since the fishing is good today, aren’t you going to cast a couple of lines?” Shui Bi Zhang asked Shi Tian while lighting up a cigarette.

College students have become synonymous with cheap labor, especially those in their second year or vocational students—they are at the bottom of the working class.
Since there isn’t much going on in the store, hiring some college students to help out wouldn’t be a bad idea. The business isn’t booming anyway; especially those college students aiming for graduate school could help watch the store without interfering with their studies—perfect fit!
“Alright then, I’ll print some flyers and distribute them quickly so I can find someone soon. Then I’ll have time to join you guys for some fishing!”
It would indeed be nice to join them for some fishing; however, he really didn’t have that time right now. Even if he managed to hire someone, his primary goal was still to build up inventory since they hadn’t even stocked all their goods yet—let alone having enough stock on hand.
In the store, Shi Tian was contemplating the possibility of recruiting workers from nearby universities.
The closest place to the shop is Sanya College, a second-tier institution. It’s unlikely to recruit seniors now, as they have all gone their separate ways. The juniors have already started their final year, and recruiting them is a possibility. In the first semester of their senior year, they still have classes, while most internships begin in the second semester. Especially for those preparing for graduate school, it’s very likely they won’t intern in the second semester and will focus solely on studying.
Although there aren’t many classes in the senior year, there are still plenty of tasks to handle. Between thesis defenses and design projects, while there may not be major assignments, the minor ones can be quite tedious.
If I were to recruit a senior student, they would be free on weekends, but during the week, I would have to accommodate their schedule. At least for the next six months, this would be the case.
There is an advantage to this arrangement: wages would be lower. However, Shi Tian doesn’t want to skimp on wages. With no one available to hire, I can only approach this from a different angle and see if I can find someone suitable. Even if I can only offer them two days a week, it’s better than having to watch over the shop every day.
With that thought in mind, I took out some paper and a pen and began drafting a recruitment notice. This time, the target is college students, so I need to revise the details and benefits accordingly!
First point: working on weekends is mandatory; this is crucial. Weekends are when Fishermen are most active, and delivering warmth during these two days will yield the best results. As long as we provide warmth for two days each week, we can quickly build up our reputation!
Second point: they should work at least four days a week! This requirement might seem high; three days would suffice since we can’t interfere with their studies.
Third point: forget about adding a third point. It’s already hard enough to find someone; too many rules will make it even harder to recruit anyone.
By these standards, it wouldn’t be a full-time position but rather part-time. Full-time jobs come with full-time rules; part-time jobs have their own set of regulations.
The benefit of part-time work is that there’s no need for Social Security contributions. Although most employees in individual businesses don’t have Social Security coverage and no one has raised this issue over the years, some places have started paying attention to it in recent years.
Once an employee is hired, everything seems fine at first—good conditions and all—but after three months, they might turn around and seek labor arbitration. If there’s no contract or Social Security payments made, not only do you have to catch up on those payments but you also face hefty fines. For small businesses, this could lead to bankruptcy overnight!
There are plenty of shady practices out there; some applicants explicitly state they don’t want Social Security contributions just to earn higher wages. However, after working for several years and then seeking arbitration, not only do they have to pay back Social Security contributions but also face fines of twenty or thirty thousand yuan—how does one even argue against that?
After finishing these tasks, it was almost dark. I still needed to go over the planning for the Artificial Lake in the villa area; today I would have to close up early!
I took a quick look at the catch from the three fishermen ahead; overall, it wasn’t bad. While they didn’t catch any big fish, each had seven or eight fish weighing over a pound in their Fish Buckets—quite impressive for Reef Fishing!
