After watching Sun Lang greet a few customers and confirming everything was fine, Shi Tian finally stood up to tidy up the Xiao Tiao he had brought back yesterday. Despite being kept in oxygen overnight, quite a few had already died.
It was impossible to release so many fish back into the river; there was no shortage of them, and even if Electrician passed through, these fish would still flood the area in a few months. Shi Tian scooped the fish out and carried them to the opposite Fishing Spot, where he dumped them into the sea! Although these fish weighed several pounds combined, once they hit the ocean, it wouldn’t be long before they became a feast for the sea creatures. He wondered how effective the Xiao Tiao would be for bait!
In fact, some Fishing Buddies used Xiao Tiao with an Iso Rod, but it wasn’t as effective as Bitterling; perhaps Bitterling was broader and easier for the fish in the sea to notice! After emptying the bucket, Shi Tian washed his hands in Yu Hu and thought it would be a good time to cast a couple of lines while no one was around. However, he quickly dismissed that idea; he had more important matters to attend to. Last night, Hu Bu Shi had sent him so many Fishing Spots that he needed to check out!
Returning to the shop to grab his Fishing Gear, just as Shi Tian was about to head out to explore the Fishing Spots, Old Zhang walked in through the back door. “You’re going fishing again? So early? Are you still going for those long ones?” Old Zhang looked at Shi Tian with disdain as he casually asked.
He had noticed his own catch had decreased over the past couple of days, which was understandable since Shui Bi Zhang hadn’t come by to bait for several days; naturally, the fish population would drop.
“By the way, I added you both to a group. There’s a Chou Tiao competition happening this Saturday that anyone can join!” After pulling out his phone and adding them both to the group, Shi Tian thought for a moment and shook his head at Old Zhang. “Later, you should try fishing at the third spot on the left. I just tossed in quite a few Xiao Yu there; it should attract some fish. Stick close to the shore and cast a few lines; you might have some luck!”
Old Zhang hadn’t even mastered shore fishing yet, so Shi Tian didn’t expect him to excel at dock fishing either. After reminding Old Zhang, Shi Tian stepped on the gas and rushed toward the nearest Fishing Spot!
Sun Lang’s learning ability was definitely better than Old Zhang’s, but since he had to work at the shop on Saturday, he wouldn’t be able to participate in the competition.
At the first Fishing Spot, Shi Tian took a quick look around and immediately marked it with an X. Regardless of how good the fishing conditions were here, the area was too small; not many cars could park there. If more people showed up, it would be too cramped and unsuitable.
Leaving the first Fishing Spot behind, Shi Tian continued on to the second one. Since this was his first time organizing a competition, he wanted everything to go smoothly!
While Shi Tian was scouting out Fishing Spots, Old Zhang was busy himself. Shi Tian had told him to fish closer in; he could still manage that part of fishing. He rigged up some Live Shrimp and cast close to shore. Before his Hook even reached the bottom, he caught a Shi Jiu Gong.
After securing his first catch, he set up his second rod close to shore again. This time he waited a bit longer, but when he reeled it in, it turned out to be a larger fish—a Black Sea Bream weighing just over a pound.
When he cast his third line out, this fish turned out to be massive—so big that Old Zhang couldn’t pull it up! Watching his Rod bend under pressure made all those fishermen who came into the shop for live bait restless. A crowd gathered around him to see what was going on—he had snagged something big!
"Brother, don't waste your effort. Just loosen the line; maybe the hook can still be salvaged!"
"No way! With that kind of strength just now, the hook is already lost. We should cut the line quickly!"
"Cut the line? How do we do that? What knife?" Hearing the chatter of the crowd, Old Zhang was completely confused.
"Alright, just a little! As a Fisherman, it's my duty to help!" A group of people jumped in to assist Old Zhang in cutting the line.
The intention was good, but they couldn't handle Old Zhang's thick line! It was quite a challenge to cut through it!
The rated pulling force of the line was twenty pounds, and the line from Shi Tian's shop was two to three times stronger. This drove everyone crazy.
It should have been a simple task with scissors, but they struggled to break it. After a few attempts without success, tempers began to flare!
"Brother, what number line is this? Why is it so sturdy?" Bro asked, rubbing his reddened hands in frustration.
"This is what the boss at the back shop gave me. I heard it's a number line," Old Zhang replied seriously.
Five plus four equals nine; Old Zhang's math was spot on!
After switching lines, none of them had ever dealt with such thick lines before, and since they hadn't discussed line setups, this became a blind spot for Old Zhang.
"What number line? Are you sure it's not steel wire?" Bro shot Old Zhang an incredulous look.
"Definitely not! I watched the boss wrap it; it's all fishing line, no steel wire!"
Old Zhang's words left Bro speechless!
Brother Piqi might have a temper, but that didn't mean he was foolish! Seeing that they couldn't manage with their bare hands, he wrapped the line around Old Zhang's net handle and gritted his teeth as he pulled up. After stumbling a bit, he finally managed to snap the sub-line!
Looking at the line they pulled up, it was indeed nylon; this made Brother Piqi calm down.
They pulled up the cotton line and Karasawa. The main line below had been damaged, so they directly lifted everything up, cut off the damaged section, and tied on a hook.
Everything was set; now it was time to tie on the hook. Brother Piqi felt a bit troubled.
"What kind of sub-line should match this main line? Number Carbon Line? That seems excessive! A line this thick can't tie on Xiao Gou! Should we use Dali Ma instead?"
After struggling for a while, Brother Piqi shook his head and said, "I don’t have any sub-line or hooks here. Just go to the shop and have them tie you one!"
Brother Piqi had helped as much as he could; Old Zhang felt grateful and lit a cigarette. With a hearty laugh, he said, "Thanks for your help! I'm familiar with this shop. I'll go ask them to tie me a hook! I'll mention it to them later so they can send you some hooks!"
Shi Tian had already informed them about getting hooks with their purchases—buying fishing rods came with hooks, buying lines came with hooks, buying live shrimp came with hooks, even buying boxes of worms included hooks! Old Zhang wasn't short on hooks; he just didn't handle such detailed work himself. The hooks Shi Tian had given him were passed on to Shui Bi Zhang and others.
