The big carp weighed over three kilograms, and after boasting about it for a whole month, it was likely that once the Beginner Protection Period ended, he wouldn't catch many fish of that size again. The sound of water was familiar to him; it was the same noise he heard when the line snagged on the bottom. The sensation in his hands was intense, but it did put a strain on the line!
However, pulling against the water made things a bit tricky. Watching the fish thrash from side to side, accompanied by the splashing sounds, made his hands tense up with anticipation. Fishing at Xinyue Lake didn't bother him much. He had caught over a hundred kilograms of tuna before; what big fish could there be in Xinyue Lake? The last time he caught a carp weighing around forty to fifty kilograms was already impressive!
This fish on the rod definitely wasn't one of those; it hadn't even put up a fight yet. Judging by its strength, even six kilograms would be quite a challenge. He braced the rod against his stomach, holding his phone in one hand while steadying the rod with the other. The fish felt lively and capable of putting up quite a struggle!
"Did you really catch a three-kilogram carp at West Lake? Is fishing allowed there? You must be joking!" Upon hearing Shi Chui brag about catching fish at West Lake, Shi Tian immediately called him out.
"Is fishing allowed at West Lake? Definitely not! But it's not entirely impossible."
Over by Su Causeway, there were still more than a hundred fishing spots. Those spots weren't open to the general public; if you wanted to fish there, you needed to have a permit. To fish at West Lake, you had to join an association—either the Hangzhou Fishing Association or the Old Cadres Fishing Association.
Once you joined an association, you could buy tickets for fishing. Each person could buy up to two tickets, with each ticket allowing two rods. The Old Cadres Fishing Association was open on Mondays and Thursdays, while the Hangzhou Fishing Association operated on Wednesdays and Fridays. At all other times, fishing at West Lake was strictly prohibited!
Of course, there were exceptions—like sneaking in to fish. The penalties weren't severe; if caught, you'd only be fined five hundred yuan. As long as you weren't afraid of getting caught, you could engage in guerrilla tactics against the West Lake management!
"Not allowed? But such a vast West Lake must have corners they don't notice!" However, fishing expenses were quite high—five hundred yuan for less than two hours!
Shi Chui's words left Shi Tian feeling frustrated; it turned out he had been caught sneaking a fish! How embarrassing!
Dragging the line to shore, Shi Tian pulled the fish up without any net or control tools—he had no choice but to resort to primitive methods. It was just a carp; if it got away, so be it—after all, it couldn't escape from Xinyue Lake and would eventually meet its fate!
It turned out to be a five-kilogram little carp—too skinny to keep, so he tossed it back into the lake! In front of Shi Chui, Shi Tian showed off by lifting the fish and casually throwing it back into the water.
Shi Chui exclaimed: "After bragging about catching a three-kilogram carp at West Lake, you're just going to slap me in the face like that? How inconsiderate!"
After tossing the fish back into the water, Shi Tian changed bait and continued casting his rod.
"How much longer are you guys planning to stay in Zhejiang? It's about to get cold; it's damp over there and winter won't be comfortable!"
If he wanted to lure Yun Wan'er to Sanya, he first needed to deal with Shi Chui. Once he had Shi Chui on his side, it would be much easier to approach Yun Wan'er and Xia Shou!
Holding his phone up occasionally for panoramic shots of Xinyue Lake—a lake this large with so many fish inside—he couldn't believe that Shi Chui wouldn't be tempted!
She wanted to stay for another couple of days! Old Yun wanted to spend some time in Xitang; she loved the ambiance of the Jiangnan Water Town! She also wanted to spend a few days at Qiandao Lake, as she had heard there were some Giant Blues there, and she was eager to try her luck!
Fishing at Qiandao Lake was something that Lao Shi had negotiated extensively for! Moreover, the itinerary for Qiandao Lake was still under discussion. From the very beginning, they had signed one agreement after another, and now it had been extended to two and a half days.
Shi Chui was quite confident about the Qiandao Lake itinerary; otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone all the way to West Lake before heading to Xitang. He aimed to add some travel time and find an opportunity to extend the Qiandao Lake itinerary even further.
Giant Blue? What’s so special about that? Just going out to sea on a boat and catching any fish would yield dozens of pounds! Isn’t that more thrilling than catching a Giant Blue? The last time I went out from Hainan Oil, I caught a tuna weighing over one hundred thirty pounds. That feeling was indescribable!
Speaking of Azure Catfish, Shi Tian suddenly remembered that there were Azure Catfish in Xinyue Lake too! He had heard from Shi Ye and others that several Azure Catfish had been released into Xinyue Lake. Some were caught by fishing, while others were bought at high prices from other Fishing Buddies. Why hadn’t anyone caught one yet? Had the Azure Catfish in Xinyue Lake starved?
Azure Catfish grow quickly; they can reach ten pounds in just two or three years. Xinyue Lake had been established for over five years now. If they had released Azure Catfish from the start, there should be some weighing around ten pounds in the lake by now!
Carp like it sweet, Azure Catfish prefer a clean sweetness, while Grass Carp enjoy a sweet and sour flavor. It’s a pity that Wo Liao’s menu doesn’t have Azure Wind Antelope; otherwise, I’d love to try some in Xinyue Lake!
“Hey! Quick, reel it in!”
Shi Tian was busy figuring out how to get some Azure Wind Antelope when Lao Shi suddenly shouted loudly from his phone.
With Lao Shi’s reminder, Shi Tian didn’t even need to look at the lake surface; he could feel the fish tugging on his rod.
He lifted his hand to pull up the rod, which nearly straightened out completely. This fish had some serious strength!
“What’s going on? Are you crazy about fishing?” Shi Chui yelled, startling Yun Wan'er, who was washing up. She poked her head out of the washroom and shouted directly at Shi Chui.
“It’s not Xiao Tian fishing! He doesn’t even realize he’s hooked a fish; I just wanted to remind him!” Lao Shi chuckled and quickly explained.
Shi Tian wasn’t in the mood to listen to their banter anymore. He shoved his phone into his pocket and focused on reeling in the fish on his rod.
This fish was putting up quite a fight; if it pulled the rod straight, getting it back would be difficult!
