Rod in place and Wheel adjusted, Shi Tian turned and climbed to the top of the boat, picking up a bottle of water to say to Wang Ergou, "Aren't you going to throw a line? It's still an hour away from the Oil Well!"
If we go full speed with the Mini Air Force, we could reach the Oil Well in less than two hours. However, with the Nearshore conditions and the Cong Jiang Qu Xing's reduced speed, we would need to spend more time trolling. It would take at least three hours to drift around.
"If we don't see any birds, I'm not going down to fish," I thought while preparing for Da Gui Wang. Last time we went out, he was quite active; this time, I had to find a way to turn him around while things were Calmly. I had to make sure he was on my side! After handing Shi Tian a cigarette, Wang Ergou said seriously.
With Wang Ergou keeping an eye on him, Shi Tian couldn't help but feel a chill for Da Gui Wang. Nothing good ever came from him being with lobsters; if things went wrong, Da Gui Wang could really ruin his reputation!
Glancing at Da Gui Wang, who was being tossed around by the lobster, Shi Tian decisively returned to the cockpit. This wasn't a small-scale conflict; it had turned into a full-blown battle of beliefs. It was better for him to keep his distance!
Hiding in the cockpit with Oka, he listened as Oka explained the relationship between wind, currents, and fish. Being behind Cong Jiang Qu Xing was definitely preferable to witnessing the bloodshed at the Stern.
Oka had a Yacht License but no boat. It wasn't that he couldn't afford one; his license was obtained abroad along with his boat. Now that he was back home and sold everything overseas, he planned to exchange his license but had no intention of buying another boat domestically.
With a boat available for fishing nearby, he could use Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell for that purpose. However, if they wanted to go to Xisha or Nansha, a small boat wouldn't suffice. Buying a large boat just for fishing wasn't worth it; it would require several crew members as well. Renting a boat would be much more economical.
Shi Tian followed Oka in learning how to find schools of fish while Wang Ergou seized the opportunity to approach Old Lin about Xia Shou.
There were only six people on board: he and the lobster were part of the Air Force Faction, while Shi Tian and Oka kept their distance. That left only Old Lin and Da Gui Wang.
It wouldn't be easy to win over Da Gui Wang, but since Shi Tian mentioned that Old Lin would be staying in Sanya for a while, it made sense to pull Old Lin into his camp first.
"Old Lin, don't use a Jig! Trolling requires live bait. Switch to a big hook; I'll get you a live fish for better chances." With that said, Wang Ergou began teaching Old Lin how to tie hooks while grabbing a live fish and hooking it up, getting fish blood all over his hands.
Once the live fish was secured, he guided Old Lin in casting it toward Hai Li while slowly letting out line. In just twenty minutes or so, Old Lin unknowingly became one of Wang Ergou's prized students.
Great! The Air Force Faction gained another strong member; Da Gui Wang was now surrounded!
With a twitch of the Rod—fish on! Wang Ergou immediately notified the cockpit to reduce speed so Old Lin could fully enjoy the thrill of reeling in something big!
The Trolling catch was somewhat monotonous; most were mackerel like Tuna or Katsuobushi and billfish like Sailfish or Marlin—plus the occasional Ghosthead Knife.
As the boat slowed down, Shi Tian hurriedly ran back to the Stern. This was Old Lin's first catch during Sea Fishing; Shi Tian had to congratulate him!
Old Lin was using Shaking technique; as the boat sped up, he struggled to keep steady until finally—now that the speed had decreased—Old Lin's Rod stood upright.
Without needing Shi Tian's guidance, Wang Ergou began coaching him from nearby.
"While the boat is moving, don’t think about lifting your rod or reeling in; just let it go like this. The fish isn't big; you should be able to reel it in!" Before he finished speaking, splashes erupted in the distance—was this fish trying to jump?
Just one glance confirmed for Shi Tian that Old Lin's Rod wasn’t hooked on Tuna; it was long and slender without any markings—he hadn’t seen anything like it before!
Fortunately, Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell provided good quality Wheel equipment. Old Lin used his Northwest Man strength; since he couldn't lift his rod or reel it in properly, he decided on an extreme pull instead!
After more than ten minutes of struggle near the boat's edge, Wang Ergou took over Shi Tian's Net with precision and expertly scooped up the fish.
"Fake Mahi Mahi!" Wang Ergou exclaimed, praising the dried fish with a hint of mischief, while Old Lin chuckled foolishly beside him.
"Is there really a fake Mahi Mahi?" Stepping closer to take a look, they spotted a fish nearly a meter long, adorned with stripes and a mouth full of teeth, showcasing its presence to the onlookers.
It was a Shah's Catfish, likely a relative of the Mullet, but its flesh was still inferior to that of the Mullet, which meant this fish wouldn't fetch a high price and would only serve as dried fish material.
"Fake Mahi Mahi (Shah's Catfish)," someone remarked.
"Ou Ge, speed up the recovery!"
As the fish was reeled in, Shi Tian notified Oka through the intercom. Oka then approached Old Lin and said, "Brother Lin, impressive! You caught a fish so quickly! Hold it up; let me take a picture, and then we can put it in the Ice Chamber to keep it fresh!"
After snapping several photos, they tossed the fish into the Ice Chamber. Shi Tian picked up his rod to check it and found that his fish bait was still intact—this time, he hadn’t lost it!
With one fish caught, Old Lin had officially become Wang Ergou's disciple. Listening to Wang Ergou had proven worthwhile; he was indeed the first on the boat to land a catch!
