Upon hearing that Shi Ye's brother and sister-in-law were coming to visit, Old Lady Lu naturally took it very seriously. Unfortunately, the news reached her only after they had boarded the plane, leaving her furious enough to want to give Lu Ying Er a good scolding.
Since Old Lu was unavailable, Shi Tian's confrontation with him from last night had to be downplayed for the moment. The conversation needed to shift towards Shi Ye and Lu Ying Er, temporarily setting aside Shi Tian's grievances. Once they discussed Shi Ye and Lu Ying Er, she could address Shi Tian's issues later.
As they smoothly entered the Lu Family's residence, Old Lady Lu placed the responsibility squarely on Shi Ye and his partner, stating that only they knew about Shi Ye and Lu Ying Er's relationship. This made their visit seem all the more significant.
After accepting the gifts and expressing the necessary sentiments, Yun Wan'er sighed while holding Old Lady Lu's hand. "Xiao Ye and Xiao Ying are not young anymore. You know, they've known each other for so many years, and their feelings have always been strong!"
"Isn't it time to get them married while we're still young? They should have children soon!"
"Xiao Ye is busy, and so is Xiao Ying. We're still young ourselves; once they have kids, we can help take care of them, making things easier for both of them!"
Old Lady Lu was getting anxious as Yun Wan'er continued to stir the pot. The more she spoke, the more impatient Old Lady Lu became! It was true; Xiao Ying was no longer a child. She had heard that having children at an older age could affect the next generation's intelligence! Time was running out—if they got married now and had two children within a year, it would be quite tight!
"I even asked Xiao Ying before; if it weren't for that old man getting in the way, they would have been together long ago!"
"Now that you two are here, I’ll consider this as you helping Xiao Ye propose. I decide what happens with my daughter; let’s settle this right now!"
With Old Lu absent, Old Lady Lu felt emboldened. Today she would take charge and marry off her daughter before Old Lu returned!
"Aunt Lu, your words are too much! I don’t even know your customs here; please tell me so we can prepare the betrothal gifts!"
Having successfully gotten through to Old Lady Lu, Yun Wan'er planned to keep the momentum going and finalize everything.
If Old Lady Lu accepted the betrothal gifts, it would be nearly settled. By the time Old Lu returned wanting to backtrack, he would have to think twice!
"Betrothal gifts? We can discuss that slowly over dinner. You all enjoy your tea while I find someone to cook!" The thought of her daughter getting married seemed to rejuvenate Old Lady Lu by ten years.
While Shi Chui and Yun Wan'er discussed the betrothal gifts and dowry, Old Lady Lu stood up to leave. Twenty minutes later, without bringing dinner back, she returned with a locksmith.
Once inside the study, she fiddled with a large safe until it opened. From inside, she pulled out a Household Register and tucked it into her coat.
"We won't eat at home tonight; I’ll treat you all at a restaurant! After sending off the locksmith, Old Lady Lu took Yun Wan'er’s hand and said: 'Since your side has come to visit us, we should also see your family!'"
"I heard your hometown is in Shandong? When I was younger, I visited there; it's been nearly twenty years! I've checked—the last high-speed train from Shandong leaves at ten o'clock. Shall we take that one? Is that convenient for you?"
"At this hour for Shandong? Is the old lady really in such a hurry?"
"Of course! It's always convenient for you! Whenever works for you!" Following the old lady out, Yun Wan'er exchanged a knowing glance with Shi Chui, who immediately understood.
Yun Wan'er accompanied the old lady for dinner while Shi Chui quietly slipped away. He needed to get back to Shandong ahead of time to prepare for their arrival!
While waiting for the dishes to be served, the old lady took out the Household Register from her coat pocket. After snapping a photo of it to send to Lu Ying Er, she carefully wrote down "See you in Shandong," awaiting Lu Ying Er's response!
As soon as the news arrived, Lu Ying Er turned to Shi Ye, her eyes sparkling. Was he finally going to achieve his goal?
"Xiao Tian, take us to the airport! It's urgent!" Shi Ye said, quickly gathering Shi Tian's Rod and dragging him into the car. The Household Register had been stolen; this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity had to be seized!
Urgent? And they were sending two people to the airport? What was going on?
With a press of the gas pedal, they hit the highway. Shi Tian glanced at Shi Ye through the rearview mirror, noticing him busy with his phone. "What's the rush? Where are you guys headed at this hour?"
"Just drive! I'll treat you to Wedding Candy when we get back!" Shi Ye replied, putting his phone down with a smug grin. He pulled Lu Ying Er close and kissed her. Finally, he was about to win her heart!
"Wedding Candy? I like that!" Xiao Yu chimed in. "Ying Er Jie, have you thought about where you want to go for your honeymoon? Should I take you both to Xisha? It's beautiful there, even more so than the Maldives!"
Shi Ye knew he wouldn't be invited along for their honeymoon; he felt like a third wheel already!
"I saw the videos from Xiao Yu and the others; Xisha is truly stunning! Once winter break starts in a few days, you should take us there for wedding photos!" Shi Tian added enthusiastically.
Not mentioning the honeymoon just yet, Lu Ying Er smiled gently. "Let's finalize the wedding photos first!"
