Yi Laotou was feeling quite frustrated lately. Why was he trailing behind those three old men instead of enjoying his leisurely days? Now he had gotten himself involved in their mess.
What did it matter to him that they were raising fish to attract the White-Finned Dolphin? He was the one stuck on duty every day, constantly having to pump them up with energy, making them all fired up. It was driving him to the brink of insanity!
“Don’t listen to his nonsense. That kid can’t even test a thing! He’s just trying to fish off our efforts,” Yi Laotou shot a glance at Old Kong, who looked equally speechless. “You really are a master at protecting your own!”
“Old Yi, can you figure out what Xiao Tian is planning by stealing these fish?” Old Kong asked.
Shi Tian and Li Ziyu had been sneaking their fish for quite some time now, and Old Kong and Old Wen had been discussing it for ages. Given Li Ziyu's previous character, he definitely wouldn’t do something like this.
Shi Tian wasn’t exactly clueless either; he understood why they were raising those fish. There was no way he would risk their fish just for a moment of fun.
But the problem was, they weren’t just sneaking around anymore; they were openly coming over to help feed the fish, which made no sense at all!
“What’s there to figure out? Stop being so superstitious and believe in science!” Yi Laotou casually dismissed Old Kong's concerns after feeding the fish. He plopped down on a chair and said, “The fish in the pond must be effective by now! This is the result you wanted. Why bother with all the details?”
“If Xiao Tian really wanted those few fish, he could just wait until they grew up and catch them then. Why would he need to sneak them out early to raise himself?”
Yi Laotou couldn’t understand why Shi Tian would steal the fish to raise in his own pond and didn’t want to think about it any longer. His current task was simply to keep an eye on his apprentice and ensure Old Kong didn’t steal from him.
Shi Tian and Li Ziyu had no other purpose for stealing the fish; they just wanted to take Li Ziyu along to feed the White-Finned Dolphin.
Yet, as simple as that seemed, there were always people who overcomplicated things. The smarter someone was, the more convoluted their thoughts became!
“Stop overthinking it. Xiao Tian is still a child at heart; when he gets candy, he’ll show it off. You’ll know when he does,” Yi Laotou remarked pointedly as he stood up and headed toward the yard.
His words hung in the air, leaving Old Kong in a daze for quite some time.
It seemed that these days, Old Liu had led him astray; he kept wanting to figure out how Shi Tian managed to create those Fishing Rod materials. He was getting a bit too obsessed!
Yi Laotou was right; Shi Tian had Shi Ye backing him up. If this technology matured and went into mass production, Shi Ye would definitely make a move. At that point, there would be no need to buy finished products; why bother trying to steal someone else's technology?
Another Yellowfin Tuna was caught, and glancing at the time, Zao Kou’s shift was about over.
In one morning, five people had caught three fish—a pretty good record.
Shi Chui and Air Force were both Air Force too; it wasn’t their fault for lacking skill; it was simply a matter of probability.
Watching Shui Bi Zhang still playing with his catch, Shi Tian reeled in his rod and ran up to the top of the boat to enjoy the excitement.
Shui Bi Zhang had lent his rod to Liu Zong while he donned a new beginner’s outfit—now it was time to test his skills!
If that Rod were in Oka or Pingtou Ge's hands, that fish would likely be reeled in. Don't be fooled by Shi Tian's skill; he mostly uses Xing Brand equipment. With this novice set, he doesn't have the confidence to bring the fish in.
Xiao Tian, let's make a bet on whether Shui Bi Zhang can reel this fish in! I'll wager a box of Hua Zi! Wang Ergou said with a grin as he handed Shi Tian a cigarette.
Alright, I bet Shui Bi Zhang can't bring it in! As soon as Wang Ergou finished speaking, Shi Tian chimed in immediately.
Forget it then! Upon hearing Shi Tian bet that Shui Bi Zhang couldn't reel in the fish, everyone lost interest in betting. It was a sure loss!
Let's change the bet then; let's wager on whether he will cut the line or lose the fish! This time, let's raise the stakes and bet two boxes of Hua Zi! I bet Shui Bi Zhang will cut the line! Seeing Wang Ergou back out, Shi Tian quickly changed the rules.
With the rules altered, everyone leaned in closer; this was starting to get interesting.
The probability of cutting the line was high; after all, they had done it several times just yesterday. They were familiar with this game!
Shi Tian spoke up, and Sun Lang immediately joined in with Oka, while Shi Chui also came over to join the fun.
One against four—this risk was a bit high! But with high risk came high reward.
Lao Shui, everyone thinks you’ll cut the line; you better put up a good fight! If the fish makes a run for it, let out some line quickly! I’m betting you’ll lose it; if you win, I’ll give you half! Four boxes of Hua Zi! The odds weren’t great, so they would seek help from within if necessary.
Wang Ergou's shout nearly made Shui Bi Zhang spit blood!
Do you have no humanity? Not only are you not helping me out, but you're also betting against me! I bet I can reel this fish in! Just get the cigarettes ready! Shui Bi Zhang retorted, shaking his sore arm.
Who started this? I want to place my bet too; I’m betting Shui Zong will cut the line! Just as Shui Bi Zhang finished his retort, Man Cang Hao and a few others joined in on the excitement.
When one Old Boss spoke up, everyone followed suit. Even Mr. Man Cang joined in on the fun, and without exception, they all bet on Shui Bi Zhang cutting the line.
The chances of cutting the line were still quite high; this fish on Rod’s line was no small catch—it had been fighting for over twenty minutes now.
Twenty minutes was just the beginning; to get that fish on board would take at least another thirty minutes.
With so many people placing bets, things were getting interesting. Pulling Oka aside, Shi Tian grinned and asked, Want to win a little more?
How do we win more? Seeing Shi Tian’s mischievous smile, Oka rubbed his nose.
Lao Shui, how about this: if Oka and I guide you to reel in that fish and we win, we split the cigarettes three ways? As soon as he said this, both boats' crews were stunned—could it really be played like that? Can you be any more shameless?
Deal! If we get the fish up, all the winnings go to you two! Shi Tian’s words made Shui Bi Zhang feel like he had found a savior. After being scared by cutting lines yesterday, he was now nervous every time he reeled in. As long as they could get that fish up, who needed cigarettes?
Oka, it's up to you now! Bring that fish in and we won’t need to buy cigarettes for half a month! He patted Oka on the shoulder and pushed him forward. No one from either boat objected.
Was losing cigarettes really a loss? This was paying tuition! As long as they could learn a trick or two from Oka’s guidance, those two boxes of cigarettes would be worth it!
