Fishing on a deep-sea drilling platform, after dark, they circled the platform with searchlights, using the beams to lure fish. When the conditions were right, they could see a patch of Xiao Jinqiang on the surface of the water.
The tuna swimming near the surface were not large, some weighing around ten pounds, while others were thirty to forty pounds. Clearly, these fish were not the target for Shi Tian and his crew! If they were going to fish, they wanted the big ones—at least over sixty pounds!
As the boat reached the location, Shi Tian stared at the map in disbelief. "Where's the drilling platform?" he exclaimed. "Jun Ge, when did you set this coordinate? Where's the platform? Did a monkey steal it or something?" He called over the intercom, feeling a headache coming on after traveling three to four hours only to end up here looking at the sea.
"Shi Tianyi," he called out, and everyone turned their attention to Air Force's face. "Don't tell me this coordinate is from when we set it back in March! You didn't update it?" Lu Ya asked curiously as he set down his beer.
"Nope! I thought Xiao Tian knew the coordinates too, so I didn't remind anyone. No worries; this thing doesn't drift far. Let me check the official website for the coordinates!" He said seriously as he pulled out his phone and found the Maritime official website.
Any updates about this would be posted by Official; they would announce the operational area’s coordinates and times! They even provided friendly reminders about restricted zones within a sea area where non-operational vessels were prohibited from approaching.
There are several types of drilling platforms. In shallow waters, they are fixed structures with piles driven into the seabed to build a platform. Once drilling is complete, the platform remains in place for equipment installation to extract oil—similar to fishing platforms outside a fishing tackle shop.
In deeper waters, there are also types of drilling platforms with four legs. They resemble fishing platforms exactly; they float to a drilling site, lower their legs down, and drill from above. After drilling, they lift their legs and move on to another fishing platform to extract oil.
However, Blue Whale One was not one of these types; here, the water depth often exceeded a thousand meters, making such methods impractical. It resembled an enormous raft fishing boat that was towed into position before drifting at sea for drilling.
Moreover, this raft fishing boat was equipped with eight thrusters—essentially eight computer-controlled top flow devices—ensuring it remained stable even during typhoons.
With coordinates in hand, Air Force busied himself in the cabin while taking this opportunity to slip away into the restroom. "You can handle sailing by yourself!"
One hundred sixty nautical miles west of Xisha was Blue Whale One's coordinate—not too far from here. But given that Blue Whale One was more expensive than most options, was it even worth going there?
After spending an entire evening fishing at Taiwanese Fishing grounds, they caught plenty of fish; unfortunately, they were all Xiao Yu. After several exhausting hours of fishing, only a few could be stored in ice—staying at Xisha would have been more worthwhile! They wasted one or two thousand dollars on fuel costs!
As he lifted his rod again, Shi Ye hooked another fish!
"Wow! That's a big catch!" The excitement surged among them. Catching fish had become routine; catching big fish was rare!
"How deep are you fishing?" Upon seeing Shi Ye reel in a large fish, everyone grew excited. From three to four meters down, it was all Xiao Yu—as if Bai Tiao had stirred up their nest!
"Eighty meters! There’s something big down there!" He casually mentioned while hugging his rod tightly. "Let’s see if we can pull in a hundred or eighty meters first!"
Upon hearing there might be something big at eighty meters, they wasted no time. Four electric reels were cranked up as they filled their bait cages with Xia Pi and prepared to drop down to eighty meters without worrying about current conditions—up and down went their rods as they aimed to gather more fish!
Everyone praised how effective their rods were; they claimed these rods were sufficient for this area. Yet each person still held onto their rods tightly—afraid that if they hooked a massive fish weighing hundreds of pounds, their rods might not hold up!
While Shi Tian and his crew worried about catching big fish, Shui Bi Zhang's side was celebrating over Xiao Yu.
"When have we ever seen such a scene? The entire surface of the sea is covered with fish! This is way more thrilling than fishing in an aquarium!"
Despite only weighing around twenty to thirty pounds, Xiao Jinqiang and the group were having a great time fishing, while Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, Oka, Zhang Junming, and the lobster rolled their eyes in exasperation.
They had been fishing at depths that kept descending, now reaching over sixty meters, finally evading Xiao Yu's grasp, but still without a bite! The four of them huddled together, shaking the Bait Cage with Xia Pi. The water depth was barely manageable; any deeper and the Rod would lose its effectiveness.
Shui Zong—weren't they supposed to be experts? Why hadn’t they caught any fish for such a long time? Another Xiao Jinqiang was pulled up, and one of the heads near Shui Bi Zhang glanced at Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, quietly asking Shui Bi Zhang about it.
Hearing this, Shui Bi Zhang was taken aback. How should he respond? If he said they didn’t care for these Xiao Yu, wouldn’t that discourage them? They had come out to enjoy themselves; such comments were not appropriate.
I’m not too sure either; perhaps their target fish were different! Oh no! I’ve caught another fish! This is the last one for the evening! I’ll put in some effort and aim for a smooth six-six success!
With a shake of the Rod, he feebly indicated a catch. Shui Bi Zhang exaggeratedly called out, pushing the Electric Reel, and yet another Xiao Jinqiang, close to thirty pounds, leaped from the surface of the water!
